Thousands of Bristolians gathered at Bristol Harbour this weekend (June 15) to witness the city’s first ever Bristol Birdman.

The event is inspired by the the world-famous events that have run globally for over 50 years, and saw 10 teams build homemade flying machines and costumes and launch themselves off a platform into the water to see who can fly the furthest, with the winner crowned Bristol Birdman or Birdwoman for 2025.

The creations varied from a yellow submarine to a mini Bristol Harbour Master boat to the heroic ‘Butterman’.

All profits from the event will go to Grassroot Communities, a Bristol-based social enterprise supporting young people from underserved communities through mentoring, education, employment pathways, and leadership opportunities.
