00:00So, one of the most crucial pieces to the 2025 Cowboys puzzle that could make or break the season
00:06has a secret weapon, and it happens to be one of the best players in franchise history.
00:15Hey, what's up, everyone? It's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas.
00:19Today, we are talking none other than one of the players that honestly could make or break the 2025
00:26year, and I'll tell you exactly why. You look at the Cowboys offense. You've got Dak Prescott two
00:31years removed from an MVP season. You've got CeeDee Lamb. You've got George Pickens. That is one of
00:36the best wide receiver duos that you will see in the NFL this year. You have Jake Ferguson, who sure,
00:42he needs to bounce back, but many quarterbacks would love to have Jake Ferguson. And if you know
00:48Dak Prescott, you know these two have a special chemistry, especially when Dak throws that ball
00:53over the seams, he will always find number 87. This is to say, for a back, check mark.
00:58Skill position players, for the most part, check mark. I don't know about running back. We need to
01:03figure that one out, and that is one of the other question marks for this offense. I would say,
01:07who's going to be the running back, and how good is he going to be? Javante Williams. If that's
01:11last year's version of Javante Williams, then thumbs down. You're in a bad spot. But if he can go back
01:17to that 2022 form, well, maybe you're on to something. That's a question mark. Another question mark
01:22might be just the play calling. What is it going to look like with Brian Schottenheimer with the
01:27headset? But I think none of those questions is as important and as big as will pass protection hold
01:34up in the tackle spots? Sterling still is a question mark, but even a bigger one is Tyler
01:40Guyton. Tyler Guyton's rookie season was underwhelming enough to where Mike McCarthy's coaching staff was
01:47rotating him in and out of the lineup when the season was lost, when the Cowboys were not in it
01:54in the playoffs anymore. And even in that point, the Cowboys were like, let's just send Asim Richards
01:59out there. That should tell you enough about how bad things were. However, he did flash some upside.
02:07He did flash some of that athleticism that made him a first round draft pick in the first place.
02:12And we all knew he was going to take some time to develop. The question is, how long? And the big
02:19question is, in 2025, is he going to be a starting caliber tackle? Well, we don't know. And we won't
02:25know that answer. Maybe in training camp, we'll get a better idea of it when live contact is allowed
02:31in practices. But what we do know is that Guyton is doing his best to get ready. He is making comments
02:39where he's just not making excuses about his rookie year. He recently told reporters, I was not good
02:45enough, period. And I got to be somebody that this team can count on. So he's not sugarcoating any of
02:51his woes. He was even asked, hey, did you struggle because you switched from right tackle to left
02:56tackle? He shot that idea down immediately. And he was like, nah, it was just bad play. Well, in 2025,
03:03he's got a secret weapon. And he happens to be one of the best players in franchise history. And I'm
03:09talking about Tyron Smith. Because if you look at Tyler Guyton's Instagram, he recently posted a series
03:15of pictures of him at OTAs. But he added one that caught the attention of many people in which he's
03:22working one on one with Tyron Smith. Now, I don't know if that's enough to just take Guyton to another
03:29level. But if you're getting insight, and you're getting advice, and you're getting training from
03:34a future Hall of Famer, and a player that is going to be in the Cowboys ring of honor, because of his
03:40play at tackle, and not only that, but from someone who also went through that transition of playing
03:45right tackle, and then moving to left tackle, he's got to improve based on this, right? I would bet that
03:52this is really going to help Guyton. It might not be enough to just turn him into a starting caliber
03:58over tackle, but it sure will go a long way. Let me know in the comments if you think I am
04:03overreacting, underreacting, or if it's just right. But I think Tyron Smith working out with
04:08Tyler Guyton is huge. Let me know what you think. And I'll see you next time.
