00:00Born and raised in Iran, Mohsen Kazemi grew up in a devout Muslim family.
00:05But after facing injustice in his homeland, he embarked on a perilous journey
00:10that would take him over mountains and through refugee camps, ultimately leading him to Canada.
00:17Now a doctor, professor, sports chiropractor, author, and senior pastor of Mohabbat Alliance Church,
00:24I sat down with Dr. Mohsen Kazemi to hear his remarkable story of how he came to faith in Jesus Christ
00:29and how that experience changed him.
00:33Recounting your story, it's absolutely fascinating with so many twists and turns along the way.
00:38Take us back to the homeland. What was life like for young Mohsen Kazemi?
00:43I was 15 when the revolution happened and we all were excited about what the revolution is going to bring to us.
00:54In Iran at that time, the universities were free, but you've got to pass an entrance exam.
01:01And I thought, hey, I did it very well. I get 90, no problem.
01:04And then you choose where you want to go.
01:07I chose all the med schools and two dentistry schools.
01:10And then found out that I didn't get in.
01:12There was some political stuff that regards me wearing a suit in the class and being labelled as a vesterner, so I didn't get to go.
01:23And I ended up being sent to the military service in a special army, which I found out was not for me.
01:31And it was almost like sentencing me to death.
01:37So we decided, okay, it's time to take off and come out.
01:41There was no freedom of speech.
01:43You can't really say anything.
01:45And it was a very select view that if they were for the regime, it would go where they wanted to go.
01:53Now, you would describe yourself as a devout young Muslim man, you know, living life according to the Koran and the precepts laid out before you.
02:03But as you make this decision to leave Iran in pursuit of a better life, perhaps bringing you to Canada, which in fact it ultimately did, you encountered a group of Christians in a refugee camp of all places in Austria.
02:19Yeah.
02:20What shifted in your perspective?
02:21Because you had a very sort of one-track mind about religion and faith.
02:25We come to this place and, you know, we are in a refugee camp.
02:29This, everything is scarce and, you know, I have the money and this group of people, missionaries from U.S. and Canada, right across from the refugee camp, they open up a coffee shop.
02:41So I go in here and I see this guy, his name was Douglas.
02:45I remember him.
02:47Great guy.
02:48Doesn't smoke.
02:49Doesn't drink.
02:51He doesn't live with his fiancée.
02:52And it doesn't matter where I'd be getting into arguments with regards to religion.
02:59I was quite hot timber.
03:02The next day, it's like nothing happened and we'll love you.
03:06Wow.
03:07This is different than what I heard.
03:10So that was the first real meeting the real Christians.
03:15What do you think fueled your passion to live out Islam even more, with a more committed resolve after leaving Iran?
03:30Yet in here, in Canada, I was just standing everywhere to argue and say I am who I am with regards to my Islamic theology and understanding and all that.
03:41And I would stay and argue with whoever comes up.
03:46I met my wife, Inzik.
03:48And the woman we met, she talks about Jesus to me.
03:52And I said, OK, well, Jesus is a great prophet, one of the greatest prophets in Koran.
04:01She was saying, no, he's the son of God.
04:03So we continue.
04:05Every time we meet, she talks about it.
04:06So one day, I said, about a year passed, I said, listen, you're pushing me to Christianity.
04:12I don't like it.
04:14And one more time, you talk about Christ.
04:17You're not going to see me.
04:19Because you're blaspheming the name of Allah.
04:22So then she said to me, see, most of them, we as a Christian share the best thing that we have with those who we love.
04:29And Jesus is the best thing that I have.
04:34And there's a difference.
04:35She asked me, do you have a personal relationship with your God?
04:38I said, what do you mean, personal relationship?
04:40In Koran, it says Allah is closer to the vein of your neck to you.
04:44That's what I said to her.
04:45I said, well, no, no, what do you have here?
04:47Personal relationships.
04:48No.
04:49So, well, the difference between Christianity and all the other stuff is it's Christ that comes to you.
04:56Now you go to Christ.
04:57And then he says, what do you have to lose?
05:02Suppose Jesus is the Son of God.
05:05Is he able to show himself to you?
05:08I said, well, if he's the Son of God, he should be able to show himself to me.
05:12He says, why don't you ask him?
05:15Ask him and see who he is.
05:18And I said, Jesus, I know you as an amazing prophet.
05:23One of the strongest, most powerful prophet.
05:28But if you're really Son of God, show yourself to me.
05:32We should tell our viewers there's significance to In Sook in your story because she's beloved by our production team at Crossroads and 120th Street.
05:42She was our makeup artist for many, many years, making us look good or attempting to make us look good every day on air.
05:49And we're so thankful for her.
05:50I know dreams played a bit of a role in your journey and the revelation of Jesus to you.
05:56So tell us, I know you had multiple dreams, but is there one maybe or a couple that you could share?
06:00So right after that challenge to Christ, that night I had a dream.
06:07In my dream, I was back in Iran.
06:09And there was this gentleman in my hood.
06:12And this guy was there with a red beard and red hair.
06:18And I asked him, I knew in my dream that he was Christian.
06:22I said, why do you say Jesus is Son of God?
06:26And he turned around and told me, change your way of thinking.
06:31I got up in the morning.
06:32I'm going like, what do you mean change your way of thinking?
06:35Two nights later, I had a dream.
06:36And Jesus is standing here with a white robe, with a pierced hand.
06:42And he's looking at me very compassionately and deeply.
06:49But in spirit, with a lot of pride, I said to him, why do you say Jesus is Son of God?
06:58And look at me down very compassionately.
07:00And he says, change your way of thinking.
07:03It was December 12, 1989.
07:06And I got up.
07:08And I said, what's going on?
07:11What is this change of your thinking?
07:14And Islam is based on rules and regulations.
07:18You do this.
07:19You do this.
07:19You do this.
07:20You do this.
07:20You do this.
07:21You do this.
07:21All of these things you have to do.
07:22And if you do them, then you are hoping that the side of your goods would be heavier than the side of your bad.
07:33But then I tried to do all of those things, and I could not do all of the stuff that was asked of me based on the laws.
07:43And I've always fallen short.
07:45And then I remember in Hebrews, when he talks about, quote, Jeremiah 31.
07:52And God says, there shall come a day that I make a new covenant with Israel and Judah, not the one like the one that I made with Moses, but the one in this one.
08:05I will write my laws on their heart and on their mind that they would not disobey me.
08:14And I said, whoa, God, I want that.
08:18I want that, that you write it in my heart, in my mind, so I don't disobey.
08:23How do I do that?
08:24How do I get that?
08:26And then I know that now that Holy Spirit brought it to my attention and says, okay, sacrifice.
08:35Everybody needs to sacrifice, shed blood for the sins.
08:40But how could one sacrifice be enough?
08:44The solution will be that God comes, he dies, so that his blood is enough for all who were and are and are to come.
08:52And then they came, again, it's from the Hebrews, that says, and Jesus sacrificed himself once and for all.
09:06And sacrifice is enough.
09:09And he stands on the right hand of the Father.
09:11And when I got there, that was it.
09:14I could not say no.
09:15So I went on my knees and I said, Lord, I accept you as my Savior.
09:22It was like the Holy Spirit took you on an intellectual journey.
09:36And then in that moment, it made the connection with your heart.
09:40And that acknowledgement of your need for relationship with him made all of it make sense.
09:48It was kind of like the missing piece, that relationship piece.
09:52Yeah.
09:53To fast track, Molson, you've gone on to do amazing things for the kingdom.
09:58You're a pastor here now at Mohabad Alliance Church in Toronto to the Iranian people.
10:03Well, you've authored numerous books, but this is your latest one, A Daily Heart to Heart, Talk with the Father.
10:08And it's, folks, it's a devotional for every day of the year.
10:12It's got some scriptural context and then a devotional thought and prayer from Dr. Molson.
10:18And this is also published in Persian as well.
10:22Why did you feel it was important to write a 365-day devotional?
10:26So what happened?
10:28I got inaugurated for Mohabad Church on March 15, 2020.
10:33Okay.
10:34And the next day, COVID happened.
10:36My congregation are all Muslim converts, and a lot of them are newcomers, newcomers and new to Christianity.
10:49So what I started, I started devotional online, five to seven minute morning and then five to seven minute devotional at night
10:59to continue inserting the Word of God and how it's applicable and how do we do that and how to add prayer to that.
11:08So, and somebody, one of my mentors, Dr. Tim Behrens, who's the senior pastor of this church, Grace CRC, he was with us.
11:19And he was really the one that says, we need to make this one into a book.
11:24So that's how it came to being.
11:26What would you say to that person that's searching in this moment, or perhaps the other person that is trying to share the love of Jesus
11:34with someone that's very deeply steeped in the tradition and devotion to Islam?
11:42I think the key is the love of Christ and the fact that God the Father loves us.
11:52Jesus, 316, everybody knows, God so loved Father, the Father so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.
12:04This is the ultimate, the highest peak of love.
12:08There's a prophecy in Jeremiah that I think just briefly, if you can just share the relevance of this prophecy,
12:17because it's like a full circle moment for the people of Iran where their relationship with God is concerned.
12:24And just share that briefly in our last couple of moments together.
12:27Share Jeremiah 49, 34 to 38.
12:30He talks about, first talks about the judgment of Elam.
12:35So Elam is the old Persia, is the south part of the Persia, is very specific part.
12:40And he says that first, I'm going to scatter them all across the four winds of heaven.
12:46And I'm going to kill their princes.
12:49There are a couple of things.
12:50But it says at the last days, but in the last days, I will restore Elam and bring them back.
13:01And I will put my throne upon Elam and rule.
13:06What we know now is the Persian converting Muslims are the number one and the fastest one in the whole world.
13:15How can we, as Westerners, or here specifically in Canada, be praying for the persecuted church in Iran?
13:23I think prayer has to be made that the Lord would give those who are persecuted joy above understanding, which he does,
13:35and perseverance, and be able to see him beyond and above all things.
13:45That is going on.
13:48And definitely, being social advocate as well, because yes, we pray, but we are also called to stand.
13:56If the righteous man keeps silence, evil will prosper.
14:02We have to advocate.
14:03We have to stand.
14:04Yeah, so, so important.
14:06And I think it's interesting to note that there's a great revival happening with Muslim Iranians amidst the persecution.
14:16Yes.
14:16As we talked about this return to Jesus, return to God through Jesus.
14:21You know, it's easy to think that certain people groups are off bounds, but it's really important to remember that God so loved the whole world that he gave Jesus.
14:31And I want to encourage our viewers to continue witnessing the love of Jesus to all nations, tribe, tongue, and religions, because God loves them.
14:41Thank you for reminding us of the people of Iran, Mosin, and God continue to bless you in all that you're doing.
14:47I mean, we didn't even get into the doctor of chiropractic and the, you know, the publishing in medical journals and that sort of thing that you're doing,
14:53which God has also blessed you with, and you're a leading voice in that world.
14:57But we thank you for the work that you're doing right here in Toronto to the Iranian Christians here at Mohabbat Church.
15:03Thank you very much for having me.
15:05This was a great time.
