You're coming in here and you've had a long fight career already at 32, 17 fights under your belt.
00:07
You fought for Bellator, you fought for a bunch of different organizations, now coming in here for Lights Out Extreme Fighting.
00:12
What drew you to fighting for Lights Out now?
00:15
What made you want to fight under this banner and for Sean Merriman?
00:20
To be honest, I'm a fan of him.
00:22
And I was looking at a bunch of companies here around Los Angeles or the whole U.S.
00:29
And he put like a great show, you know, every time that's going to be 25, right, I think.
00:35
And yeah, to be honest to you, I had a really, really big problem the last year to find opponents to fight.
00:44
And then I'm really glad Melendez, you know, took the fight.
00:49
Super excited to fight him.
00:51
And that's one of the reasons, you know, first of everything, I think Lights Out is a great show.
00:57
You know, Merriman is doing a great job.
01:00
And second, it was just like the opponent situation, being really hard to find someone to want to fight or, you know, just being tough.
01:08
But here we go.
01:11
Well, it should be a great fight.
01:13
We'll talk about the fight itself in just a minute here.
01:15
But I want to give a little more background to people who may not have been following you as closely as they should have over the years.
01:20
Who might not have seen some of your fights that you've had.
01:22
You know, obviously, you're originally from Brazil.
01:25
You know, you have the Indio nickname.
01:27
You know, you have the headdress that you wear out to the cage.
01:30
I want you to tell a little people about, you know, where you're obviously now you're out of Cunnington Beach.
01:34
You're leaving in California.
01:35
You're training here in the U.S.
01:37
But tell people about, you know, your past, about Brazil and about, you know, your ancestry and how you represent that.
01:42
And how you, you know, are out there showing people, teaching people and, you know, doing your best to make those who came before you proud.
01:51
100%, man.
01:52
You know, I'm a Brazilian native born in Amazon.
01:56
So whole family is a native.
01:58
All the ancestry is native.
01:59
And, yeah, bring that with me.
02:01
You know, all the native power we have.
02:03
You know, the blood and everything.
02:05
And, you know, have some faith on that.
02:08
Also, you know, the flores, the jungle and everything.
02:12
It was just like, give me the power, give me the strength to, you know, keep doing.
02:16
That's what I want to show everyone.
02:17
It's something we need always to take care about it also.
02:21
And, yeah, every single opportunity I'm going to have, I'm always going to be there as a native person.
02:26
I hope, you know, Native American.
02:28
And preparation here in California is also great.
02:32
You know, I started my career there in Brazil.
02:34
And, you know, along the way, Mexico, now the U.S.
02:39
I think I'm in the right place, you know, but also never lost this, you know, ancestry power that I bring with me wherever I go.
02:49
And, you know, you've talked before on social media just last month.
02:52
You're talking about how important it is, you know, the dedication, the hard work that it goes into being there.
02:57
You know, not everyone has gone through the struggles that people, you know, especially in the fight community, go through in order to get here.
03:02
They just see a guy in there and they just, you know, they don't think about everything it takes before that.
03:06
All the hours in the gym, all the training, you know, for a lot of fighters who aren't on the upper levels of a UFC or something like that.
03:12
All, you know, working, you know, a regular job on top of, you know, being a pair and on top of training.
03:17
You know, that should be a full-time job for, you know, the best fighters as well.
03:21
So how you talk about that in your post, you know, having, it's not just about talent, not about strength.
03:26
It's about everything you put into to get to this point as well.
03:28
And, you know, what has that journey been like for you so far in your career?
03:32
Amazing, amazing.
03:33
I've been thinking a lot about that.
03:35
These pictures I also post.
03:36
I was in Italy for the last two months, you know.
03:39
I went there to clean up my mind, see things differently.
03:42
I was like kind of, like I had so much like people pull it out for fights last year for me.
03:47
It was like a tough situation, you know, get prepared.
03:50
And then a week at the fight, someone get hurt, you know, something happened and being really, really hard for me.
03:55
And to be honest, the journey, the exercise of day one, I've been enjoying, it's amazing.
04:00
You know, we get lost sometimes and you come back and then every time I feel I come back and I come back strong.
04:06
And I think this Saturday I'm going to show everyone how, you know, how better mentally I am and physically I am.
04:13
I've been training so hard for this moment and everything, every mistake and every opportunity took me at this point, to be really honest.
04:20
And I'm ready for it.
04:22
Whatever he's going to bring it to me, I'm going to be there prepared to, you know, overcome any bad situation or whatever.
