00:00From condemnations to calls for calm.
00:03Shortly after Israel launched a wave of attacks on Iranian missile sites and killed top military officers,
00:09world leaders reacted to what are the most significant strikes on Iran since its war with Iraq in the 1980s.
00:16Donald Trump on his social media platform said,
00:18There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter,
00:23with the next already planned attacks even more brutal come to an end.
00:27Trump confirmed the U.S. had been told of Israel's plans before the strikes occurred,
00:31and he said it was ready to defend itself and its longtime ally, Israel.
00:36Yet Secretary of State Marco Rubio also underlined that the U.S. was not involved,
00:40that Americans should not be targeted.
00:43The head of NATO, Mark Rutte, said Israel's allies must help de-escalate.
00:47The United Nations Secretary General expressed concern that the strikes come
00:51as nuclear talks are underway between the U.S. and Iran.
00:54It condemned the military escalation amidst concerns it could undermine those talks.
00:59The Secretary General asks both sides to show maximum restraint,
01:04avoiding at all costs a descent into deeper conflict.
01:09With fears of a broader regional war, many nations called for de-escalation,
01:13while also noting concern over Iran's nuclear program.
01:16The EU condemned the attacks and said diplomacy is now the best path forward,
01:20a sentiment echoed by Germany and France.
01:23The French foreign minister also said the attacks should not distract from the situation in Gaza either.
01:29We reiterate that this must not make us forget what is happening in Gaza,
01:33where we call for an immediate ceasefire,
01:35the release of all the hostages held by Hamas,
01:38and the unimpeded access to humanitarian aid there.
01:41China said it was deeply worried about the severe consequences that this might bring.
01:45Russia called the attacks unacceptable and unprovoked.
01:49Even Saudi Arabia, Iran's longtime adversary, reprimanded Israel for undermining Iran's sovereignty.
