A Lancashire man has been charged with the murder of a baby boy in Blackpool.

00:00A Lancashire man has been charged with the murder of a baby boy in Blackpool.
00:04Jamie Varley, 36, of Chandler's Way, Grimzar, has been charged with the murder of 13-month-old Preston Davie.
00:13Lancashire police were called to Blackpool Victoria Hospital at 7.15pm on July 27th, 2023,
00:20to report that a baby boy had been brought into the hospital unresponsive.
00:24Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Preston was pronounced deceased a short time later.
00:31A 36-year-old man, formerly from Blackpool and now Grimzar, near Preston,
00:35was arrested on suspicion of murder and later arrested on suspicion of sexual assault,
00:40assault and ill-treatment and neglect of a child under 13.
00:45A 31-year-old man, formerly from Blackpool and now Grimzar, near Preston,
00:49was also arrested on suspicion of causing and allowing the death of a child and child neglect.
00:55A spokesman for Lancashire police said,
00:57Both men were rearrested on Wednesday and having consulted the Crown Prosecution Service,
01:03we last night charged them with the following.
01:05Jamie Varley, 36, of Chandler's Way, Grimzar, has been charged with the following.
01:10Murder, 2 counts of sexual assault of a male child under 13,
01:16inflicting grievous bodily harm,
01:185 counts of cruelty to a person under 16,
01:2210 counts of taking indecent images of a child,
01:252 counts of possessing indecent images of a child,
01:281 count of distributing an indecent image of a child,
01:321 count of possessing an extreme image.
01:36John McGowan-Vazakley, 31, of Chandler's Way, Grimzar,
01:41has also been charged with the following.
01:43Causing and allowing the death of a child,
01:462 counts of cruelty to a person under 16,
01:49sexual assault of a male child under 13.
01:52All the charges relate to the same victim.
01:55Both men have been remanded into custody
01:57to appear at Lancaster Magistrates Court this morning,
02:01Friday, June 13th.
