00:04Michael B. Jordan, le star de Black Panther...
00:07I don't need a suit to kill you.
00:09Your reign is over.
00:11...and the Cree franchise...
00:12Which one of your killers are here next?
00:14You pick them!
00:15You pick who's next!
00:16...now taking on two roles at once...
00:18Okay, I will.
00:20...genre-busting horror movie...
00:22I'm not necessarily a fan of horror movies, and I enjoy it.
00:26...heating up the screen in a supernatural romance
00:29Love Yourself singer, Hailee Steinfeld.
00:34How he says he prepared to play on-screen twins.
00:38So you did the scenes as one brother and then did him again as the other brother.
00:41Correct. What was that like?
00:42It was a challenge.
00:43And the events are thanks to Lindsey.
00:47When we come back...
00:48Sit up tonight. Open up next weekend.
00:50Nah, f*** that. It's gotta be tonight.
00:53Michael B. Jordan playing twin brothers in a genre-hopping new project featuring vampires...
00:58...and supernatural scaries.
01:01Why he says Sinners is much more than a horror movie.
01:15Welcome back.
01:16He's one of Hollywood's hottest actors.
01:18And now, Michael B. Jordan is giving fans twice as much screen time...
01:22...in his new project, Sinners.
01:25ABC's Ran in an Alley sat down with the cast.
01:28I think, you know, never did a horror film before...
01:32...and playing two characters and twins at that...
01:35...so I think the combination of all those things makes this experience truly, truly unique and special for me.
01:41So you did the scenes as one brother and then did them again as the other brother.
01:44Correct.
01:45What was that like?
01:46It was a challenge.
01:47Michael B. Jordan, now starring alongside...
01:49Michael B. Jordan?
01:51Grand opening. Start the f*** with a bang.
01:53Well, we start with a misfire.
01:54That's right.
01:55You are seeing double as one of Hollywood's hottest actors...
01:59...takes on two roles in the new horror thriller Sinners.
02:03Jordan working again with director Ryan Coogler...
02:06...his collaborator on the Creed series.
02:09Kill it, all right?
02:12Yeah, kill it, all right, little dude?
02:15Which one of your killers are here next?
02:17And then again on Black Panther.
02:19The world took everything away from me.
02:21Everything I ever loved.
02:22But I'm going to make sure we're even.
02:24Now Sinners, set in the Jim Crow South...
02:27...where evil forces threaten to take over a small community.
02:32Jordan's two characters, twin brothers with opposite personalities.
02:36The brothers returning to their hometown in Mississippi...
02:39...trying to leave their troubled past behind...
02:42...only to end up fighting for their lives.
02:45There was a character development process that I did with my dialect coach.
02:49We worked on, you know, the mannerisms and how they walked...
02:52...and how they loved one another.
02:55How did they love the significant others?
02:57I mean, honestly, to be able to see them play both twins...
03:00...like, I know that that was something that had to be difficult, man.
03:03But you made it look easy, bro.
03:05Appreciate it.
03:06Yeah.
03:07Appreciate it, bro.
03:08Actress and musician Haley Steinfeld of True Grit fame...
03:11...and hits like Love Myself...
03:17...is one of the brothers' love interests...
03:19...who undergoes a supernatural transformation.
03:22I waited.
03:23I waited.
03:24I waited a long time.
03:28But I'm grown now, stay.
03:31And I know you never planned to stay.
03:34Why can't you just say that?
03:36Say what?
03:37I was so in awe the entire time of Michael and his ability to just so seamlessly go between the two...
03:45...all while keeping a smile on his face and setting the tone for the rest of us.
03:49Haley, we've watched you grow up on screen, starting with True Grit when you were just 14.
03:54There will be no settlement after I leave this office, it will go to law.
03:57Now to this.
03:58Some even saying this is your most daring role yet.
04:01Would you agree with that?
04:02Sure.
04:03I would.
04:04I think there are parts of this role, if not every part of it, that has challenged me in ways that I've...
04:10...not been challenged before.
04:12This could not have come into my life at any sooner point.
04:15I would not have been ready for it.
04:18I don't know that I would have felt like I could have done it.
04:21Nigerian-British actress Wumi Mosaku plays the lover of Michael B. Jordan's other character.
04:27Oh, it was such an honor delving into her and doing my research for her.
04:31It had such a profound effect on me.
04:35Throughout Sinners, set in a music club, the blues plays an essential role.
04:40Trouble in, I don't know where in the world I'm in.
04:45In singing the blues, 20-year-old rising star, Miles Caton.
04:50Woo!
04:51We gonna make some money.
04:54Miles, you feel like the heart of this movie with your beautiful music.
04:58Where did you learn to sing and play the guitar like that?
05:01I grew up in a musical family of gospel singers and I grew up singing in church.
05:07And once I turned 16 years old, I got the opportunity to sing background for her.
05:11And we began, like, touring all over the world.
05:14She called me one day and she told me that I should audition for this role.
05:18I've seen men die ways I didn't even know was possible.
05:23I ain't never saw no roots, no demons, no ghosts, no magic.
05:31Just power.
05:34And only money can give you that.
05:37The film exploring deeper themes of the Jim Crow era and pushing the cast to explore their own history.
05:45This brought me closer to my family, brought me closer to my family history.
05:49It started amazing conversations for me.
05:51And this role of Mary is so complex and she's so somehow confident and strong while dealing with a level of vulnerability and loss and grief and frustration.
06:02And that really struck me and was really challenging for me.
06:05I feel like I found a piece of myself within her.
06:08You feel the reverberations of your ancestors, of the people you come from.
06:13I think everyone feels like that with their characters.
06:16Sinners, breaking the codes of the horror genre while paying homage to traditions of the South.
06:23Michael, this movie is about vampires, but it's about so much more.
06:26Do you think people who aren't necessarily fans of horror films would enjoy this?
06:29I think so.
06:30I'm not necessarily a fan of horror movies, and I enjoy it.
06:34There's a huge musical element into it that is the heartbeat of the film.
06:39And it ties into so many other different dynamics that exist in our movie.
06:43Horrors, like, should not be a thing that only defines this movie.
06:51Our thanks to Rhiannon.
06:52Sinners is in theaters everywhere this Friday.
