00:00Let's bring you some news that's just coming in to us here at France 24.

00:02We're hearing that a plane has crashed in India's northwestern Ahmedabad city.

00:08That's just coming in to us.

00:09It's reportedly a plane that was due to travel to the UK.

00:16242 passengers are said to be on board.

00:19Let's cross straight to our correspondent Navadita Kamari.

00:22Navadita, bring us up to date with the information that you're hearing there.

00:25Yeah, just a few minutes ago, we have been seeing news reports from local Indian TV

00:34that a plane which was bound to London with 242 passengers on board,

00:41it's an Air India flight 171, which just a few minutes after it took off,

00:47that it went down in a residential area next to the airport

00:52and entirely engulfed in flames, flames which could be seen from a few kilometres away

01:00and were several kilometres high.

01:03Emergency services, ambulances, security forces were all called in to rescue as many lives as possible.

01:12Recent images we have been seeing that some people have been taken to a nearby hospital.

01:17So there is a hope that there may be some survivors, but it is a big tragic moment,

01:23a big plane crash in recent times in India.

01:27And looking at the number of passengers, it was a big full-packed passengers' airplane

01:34and 242 people's lives are at stake right now.

01:39That's what we are hearing at the moment.

01:41There is no official statement of how many people have been injured or burned

01:49because looking at the images of smoke that is intense and covering a large area,

01:57people from the neighbourhood have gathered there

02:00and we have seen images of ambulances rushing into the area.

02:05So there is a hope, but we have to wait for a few hours to see the scale of the damage

02:11and tragic crash of this plane going from India, Indian city of Ahmedabad to London.
