Series 6, Week 18, Day 1

Every day this week, celebrity contestants Kriss Akabusi, Grace Dent, Tim Lovejoy and Lauren Steadman take on a series of quiz rounds selected by the host, quiz legend Richard Osman.

A daily winner is declared following a quickfire round at the end of each show, and the scores are tallied across the week, resulting in an overall champion being crowned on Friday.

Will the winning stars opt for the much-coveted House of Games suitcase, or will they be tempted with the House of Games decanter?

00:00Hello there, it's Monday. Welcome along to Glasgow. Welcome along to the House of Games.
00:13I'm Richard Osman. I'm joined by four famous faces. Every time I press this buzzer, a new round comes up.
00:19I never know what it's going to be. They never know what it's going to be.
00:21What we do know is at the end of the week, somebody is winning this trophy.
00:26I'm afraid contractually they have to take it home. Awful though it is, our players are Grace Dent.
00:32Hello.
00:34Lauren Stedman, Chris Akabusi and Tim Lovejoy.
00:39Hello everybody, welcome to Glasgow. Grace, how are you?
00:43I'm really well. I'm kind of wondering what I've let myself in for, but I'm happy to be here.
00:49What you've let yourself in for is spending a week with Chris Akabusi.
00:51That is what you've let yourself in for.
00:55You can't buy that though, can you?
00:57You cannot buy that. You cannot.
00:59Lauren, welcome along. Listen, you're a competitive person, clearly.
01:03You've won everything there is to win, but how is your quizzing?
01:06Not that good. There's a reason I've not done competitive quiz shows, so we'll see.
01:12This is great so far. Nobody wants to win.
01:14No.
01:15There he is.
01:15The man himself, Chris. How is your quizzing?
01:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:21I hate to ask.
01:21I'm very much looking forward to being the strongest man. I'm going to be holding everybody else up.
01:25Yeah.
01:26I'm bagsy last. Don't worry about that one.
01:28Wow. So far, everybody is coming forth, Tim Lovejoy. What are we thinking about that?
01:33Well, I'm up against a journalist, two athletes. I'm the underdog, but I think I'm going to win it, you know?
01:38Yeah. Confident.
01:40I think you might win. Now, there is a trophy at the end of the week. There's also daily prizes as well.
01:44So whoever wins today will choose one of these.
01:48You could have the shower curtain, the fondue set, the cavetiere, the plant pot, or the dartboard.
01:55I mean, don't say we don't spoil you. Grace, what would you go for?
01:58Dartboard. Without a doubt. A dartboard starts a party.
02:02A shower curtain.
02:03Really? Wow. You know what? People do not often say that.
02:06Chris?
02:09I'm definitely the plant pot.
02:11Plant pot. Yeah, the plant pot.
02:13I am definitely the plant pot.
02:14There you go. There you go.
02:16And Tim?
02:17Dartboard. Dartboard, of course.
02:18Listen, we've got a week of quizzing ahead of us.
02:20Shall we start with round one on day one?
02:22Yeah. Best place to start.
02:23Our first round this week is...
02:28Rhyme time.
02:30Two questions. They rhyme with each other.
02:32Fingers on buzzers, everyone.
02:34Here are your first two.
02:36Actor who played James Bond in No Time To Die.
02:42And Dutch City, location of the International Court of Justice.
02:49Tim?
02:50Daniel Craig the Hague.
02:51Daniel Craig the Hague.
02:53That's correct.
02:54Daniel Craig the Hague.
02:56They rhyme to Grace Dent's Annoyance.
02:59There's a small second behind you.
03:01Next two.
03:02US band whose songs include Last Night and The Adults Are Talking.
03:08And Channel 4 Soap set in Chester.
03:11Chris?
03:18So...
03:19Down and Oaks, something, Holly Oaks and...
03:21Holly Oaks.
03:22Holly Oaks.
03:23And...
03:23And something and oaks.
03:25It is not, I'm afraid.
03:27Holly Oaks you got, but...
03:28Oh, Tim, I think you've given it to him.
03:30The Strokes, Holly Oaks.
03:31The Strokes and Holly Oaks we were looking for.
03:34The Strokes and Holly Oaks.
03:35How did I not know him to...
03:36Next two.
03:39French national heroine known as the Maid of Orleans.
03:44And Game of Thrones character played by Maisie Williams.
03:50Yes, Grace.
03:52Joan of Arc and Arya Stark.
03:55Joan of Arc, Arya Stark.
03:58Absolutely.
03:58Well done!
04:00Joan of Arc, Arya Stark, Grace Dent is off the mark.
04:02There we go.
04:03Yay! Boom, boom!
04:04Next two.
04:05Next two.
04:08Snoopy's owner.
04:10And what is the title of this song?
04:16Grace?
04:16It's Charlie Brown and Funky Town.
04:19Charlie Brown, Funky Town.
04:21Absolutely right.
04:23Lip sync, Funky Town, Charlie Brown.
04:26Next two.
04:29Renaissance artist who painted The Birth of Venus.
04:32And long, flat pasta ribbons with a name from the Italian for to cut.
04:42Grace.
04:44Botticelli and Tagliatelli.
04:47Botticelli, Tagliatelli.
04:49That's exactly what it is.
04:51That's very good.
04:53Botticelli, Tagliatelli.
04:55Final question in this round.
04:56Who is this?
05:00And what is this?
05:05Grace.
05:06It's Jimmy Nail, obviously.
05:10And it's...
05:10It's a humpback whale.
05:14I don't...
05:15It's not a humpback whale.
05:16This is it.
05:17Tim.
05:17Thank you, Grace.
05:18I know.
05:19Jimmy Nail, killer whale.
05:20Jimmy Nail, killer whale.
05:23Absolutely right, Tim.
05:24Very well done.
05:25Thanks, Grace.
05:28Let's take a look at our first leaderboard of the week, shall we?
05:33Chris and Lauren are both yet to get off the mark.
05:36Grace and Tim, joint leaders with three.
05:38And done.
05:41Let's take a look at our first pairs game of the week, shall we?
05:44It's going to be...
05:45Distinctly average.
05:51The player in the last place always chooses their partner in a pairs game.
05:54Chris, you're tied third at the moment.
05:56Who would you like to play this round with?
05:58I'm going to be with Tim.
05:59You're going to play with him.
06:00So, Chris and Tim are a team.
06:01Lauren and Grace are a team.
06:03If you take your tablets out, please, everybody.
06:05And now in this round, I'll ask you a series of questions.
06:07You just need to write down an estimate of an answer.
06:09And I will take the average of each pair as your answer, OK?
06:13Whichever pair is closest to the real answer.
06:15Scores a point.
06:16Your first question is this.
06:20How many golf courses are there in England?
06:23In United Kingdom?
06:24Yeah, just England, yeah.
06:28And that's, yeah, proper golf courses, not crazy golf.
06:31I was about to say, there's a lot of those.
06:33Nothing with a windmill.
06:40What do we think at home on this one?
06:42Everyone in?
06:43Grace, do you have any thoughts?
06:45I'm from Carlisle in Cumbria, and I think we've only got about two golf courses.
06:52OK.
06:52The Cumbrian Golf Association might have something to say about that.
06:55And for that reason, I think that there's about 87.
06:5887.
07:00Wow.
07:02Listen, what we try and do on a Monday, Chris, is hide our disdain.
07:05I think that there might be more than you think.
07:10Yeah.
07:11Thinking on it, there might be more than 87.
07:13Lauren, what are you saying, up or down from 87?
07:16Slightly higher.
07:173,400, says Lauren, so your average is 1,743 and a half.
07:25That might be OK, though.
07:27There's a nine-holer there.
07:29Chris, are you a golfer?
07:31I love my golf.
07:32Golf doesn't always love me, but I love my golf.
07:34I play off 14.
07:36What I'm going to say is, Grace and Lauren, I've blown your number out of the water, so I'm
07:41probably wrong.
07:42But I decided 1,000, and I cut this down.
07:44I cut this down.
07:46OK.
07:461,815.
07:48One of those random numbers that you come up with.
07:501,815, Chris is saying.
07:51Tim, up or down from that?
07:53I've gone a little bit too high, now I've thought about it, and I panicked.
07:57Yeah.
07:58So I've gone 5,000, which is very high, but I was...
08:015,000? Is that high?
08:02Well, it's high in comparison to the others.
08:04Oh, it's high in comparison to the others.
08:05So I'm feeling a bit stupid.
08:06But I think a couple of those are quite low.
08:07So your average gentleman, 3,400.
08:10So we've got 1,700, 3,400.
08:13What do you think at home?
08:14How many golf courses are there in England?
08:16Which team has scored the first point?
08:20What?
08:201,270.
08:23Grace and Lauren, you get yourself a point.
08:25Here is your next question.
08:28In US dollars, how much money did Ed Sheeran's Divide tour make
08:32by the time it finished in August 2019?
08:36Me and my dad went to watch him in Wembley.
08:39We estimated how much we thought he made in one night in Wembley.
08:43We did the maths.
08:44Perfect.
08:44Yeah, I know.
08:45And then it's just how many gigs did he do?
08:46Oh, a minute there, I've forgotten now.
08:47Apart from the fact that we don't know how many gigs he did
08:50and you've forgotten how much you thought he made.
08:53It was a lot for that one night.
08:55What do we reckon at home on this one?
08:57Ed Sheeran's tour.
08:57How much money do you think that made?
09:04Everyone in?
09:06Chris Akabusi.
09:07What are you thinking here?
09:09Ed is the man.
09:10He's really, really large at this moment in time.
09:12So I've gone big Willy style.
09:1625 million.
09:1725 million.
09:17Gross.
09:1825 million.
09:19Tim, you've gone up from that?
09:20Yeah.
09:21Yeah.
09:22Yeah, I've gone 30 million.
09:24So in the same sort of ballpark.
09:2630 million, says Tim.
09:28So your average is 27.5 million dollars.
09:32Grace, you're going up from that?
09:33Yeah, I've gone much bigger because I'm thinking
09:36he must have sold a lot of merchandise.
09:39And he was only playing the very, very biggest places.
09:42The Enormodomes.
09:43So I'm going 250 million.
09:45250 million.
09:46I'd go big, I think.
09:48I'd be somewhere up in the stratosphere.
09:50Lauren, you went one night.
09:51It was good, I'm assuming.
09:52Yeah.
09:53I think I've just...
09:54I think I've got my zeros wrong.
09:56OK, correct.
09:59We have a very big number.
10:01I'm up at 600 million.
10:03600 million?
10:04Yeah.
10:04That doesn't sound...
10:05No, because I meant 60 million.
10:07If I'm thinking about the maths that me and my dad did,
10:09we're clearly bad maths.
10:11So your average, Grace and Lauren,
10:13is 425 million.
10:16We've got 27 million, we've got 425.
10:18It was a big old tour.
10:19It was like years, wasn't it?
10:20And he's making a lot of money.
10:22Let's find out how much money did that tour make
10:24and who has scored a point.
10:25776 million dollars.
10:33That 4th gross.
10:34Highest grossing tour of all time,
10:36according to the Guinness World Records.
10:38Wow.
10:38We put you on gig.
10:39Did it all in some.
10:40We should have.
10:41Ed.
10:42Why on earth were you a hurdler,
10:43instead of an international pop star?
10:46Final question in this round.
10:47Set in 2013 by Delabor Jablanovich.
10:51What is the world record for the most spoons
10:54balanced on the face?
10:56Oh, my goodness.
10:57I mean, Chris, this is your...
10:59Oh, you're on a record breaker.
11:00It's your old job, isn't it?
11:01Exactly.
11:02I bet you've done...
11:03Teaspoons, tablespoons.
11:05I imagine as small a spoon as possible
11:07would be how I'd approach it.
11:09Yeah.
11:09Yeah.
11:12What do you think at home on this one?
11:14How many spoons on the face?
11:15Lauren, we will start with you.
11:17What are you thinking here?
11:18I've gone for 113.
11:21Yeah, I mean, I can't see how it's possible,
11:23but it must be a big number.
11:23But did the ears count?
11:24I'm going...
11:25Yeah, ears.
11:26Grace, up or down from that.
11:28I'm regretting that I went lower
11:30because I forgot about ears.
11:34But I'm saying 44.
11:35I still think that's quite a lot.
11:37Yeah, it's still a lot.
11:38But I've got a feeling that he's got...
11:39It's a he.
11:40I have a feeling it's a he.
11:41Yeah.
11:42And he's got kind of a bumpy face
11:44and you can put them on all different places.
11:46So your average, Lauren and Grace,
11:49is 78 and a half.
11:51Are you going to get all three points in this round?
11:53Chris, what are you thinking about that?
11:55Well, I'm thinking a very, very popular bean variety.
11:59Not quite sure why.
12:00I've gone...
12:01You're 57.
12:0457, says Chris.
12:05Tim, up or down from that?
12:07It's down.
12:07I've learned on this game,
12:09it's taken me a while,
12:10but we're doing the average, aren't we?
12:12So I thought I was...
12:13I thought I'd go lower this time
12:15to try and average it out.
12:18And I've gone 35.
12:21So...
12:2135.
12:2235.
12:22But Chris, I thought,
12:23would go a lot higher than that.
12:26I thought...
12:26That was very restrained for Chris, wasn't it?
12:28Yeah, I thought Chris would go up high
12:30and I would go low.
12:32If Chris goes high, you go low.
12:33So your average, gentlemen,
12:36is 46.
12:38We're 46 and 78.
12:39They both look convincing, don't they?
12:40Yeah, we've done it.
12:41Lauren and Grace,
12:42are you going to win all three points in this round?
12:43Chris and Tim,
12:44maybe you pulled one back.
12:45Let's find out.
12:46What is Dalabo's record
12:47and who's won the final point?
12:51Oh, Chris!
12:52We've only done it!
12:54Even though you've got me up in, Mark.
12:5631.
12:57There it is.
12:57That's the end of the round.
12:58Tablets away, please.
12:59One and all.
13:00And let's take a look at our leaderboard.
13:02Everybody is off the mark now.
13:07One for Chris,
13:08two for Lauren,
13:08four for Tim,

13:15before we find our first champion of the week.

17:33is exhausted
17:34Honestly
17:37people don't normally
17:37say that on Monday
17:38Your next round is
17:42Where is Kazakhstan?
17:47If you could take
17:47your tablets out please
17:48I'm going to show you
17:50a map
17:51and today
17:52your map is this
17:53Britain and Ireland
17:56I need you to find
17:57various things
17:58on this map now please
17:59The first thing
18:00I need you to find
18:00is
18:01The inspiration
18:03for the fictional
18:04location of Greendale
18:06in the children's TV series
18:07Postman Pat
18:09Where is that
18:11on the map
18:11of Britain and Ireland
18:13please?
18:19OK
18:19What do you think
18:20at home on this one?
18:21You can picture
18:22what it looks like
18:22the rolling hills
18:23and what have you
18:24Grace
18:25what are you thinking here?
18:28I think it's
18:29Yorkshire
18:30I think it's
18:31yeah I was thinking
18:31maybe North Yorkshire-y
18:32or
18:32And I think it's
18:34somewhere where
18:34there's hills and dales
18:35Yeah well you're
18:37pretty much exactly
18:38on the North York moors
18:39There you go
18:40Lauren what were you thinking?
18:42I've gone slightly lower
18:43but in the same area
18:44Humber-y
18:47Hully sort of area
18:48Chris
18:49Postman Pat fan
18:49Yeah love it
18:51Yeah
18:51So I think again
18:54I'm in the sort of
18:54same sort of area
18:55I'm thinking in particular
18:57Richmond
18:58Beedale
18:59North Hallerton
19:00Alright
19:01In that little area
19:02Is there
19:02Is there
19:03Yorkshire here?
19:04Yeah yeah yeah
19:04Most definitely
19:05I'm thinking there
19:06Yeah kind of York
19:07York sort of area
19:08We're all in the same place
19:09Tim
19:10Yeah
19:10Four for four in Yorkshire
19:11I've gone
19:12again Yorkshire
19:13but
19:13I think I'm still in Yorkshire
19:15but I've gone lower
19:16Pure guesswork
19:18Slightly lower
19:19Yeah sort of on the
19:20Lincolnshire Yorkshire
19:21Yeah
19:21We are in
19:23pretty much all in Yorkshire
19:25there
19:25It is not
19:26set in Yorkshire
19:28That is not the
19:29inspiration for it
19:29It's set somewhere
19:31where one of our
19:32panellists comes from
19:33It's set in Cumbria
19:34Is it?
19:35Oh my gosh
19:36So let's see who's closest
19:38That is Grace
19:41Well done
19:41You strayed
19:44close to Cumbria
19:45Yeah you see
19:47that's my
19:47Bad geography
19:49Near Kendal
19:49in Cumbria
19:50Here's the next thing
19:52we're looking for
19:53The town with
19:55protected geographical
19:56indication
19:57for its smoked
19:58haddock
19:59known as
20:00Smokies
20:00That means that
20:02you know
20:02when you're the only
20:03town that's allowed
20:04to make something
20:05with that name
20:06So there's only one
20:07town in Britain
20:09that can make
20:09Smokies
20:10What is that town
20:12and where is that town
20:13That feels like a good
20:15question for a food
20:16critic
20:17Grace
20:18Yeah but I don't
20:19know where it is
20:20on the map
20:20Yeah
20:21Everyone in
20:23what do you think
20:24at home on this one
20:25Lauren we'll start
20:26with you
20:26where do you think
20:27Smokies might be from
20:28I've never heard of that
20:30ever so
20:31I've decided to go in
20:33the middle of
20:34Scotland
20:35Sterlingish that is
20:38Chris do you know
20:40where Smokie is from
20:41I didn't ken Jim
20:42but I'm sure
20:44that it's a Scottish
20:45flavour
20:45You should do a
20:46Scottish accent then
20:47Yeah exactly
20:48That would have been
20:48a better idea
20:50I've been dropping it
20:50all week
20:50I've been dropping it
20:51in my old accent
20:52It's a fair week
20:53And I've gone
20:56for
20:57I think
20:58it's Dumfisher
21:01down on the border
21:02somewhere
21:03Yeah
21:03Yeah
21:04Dumfisher and Galloway
21:04absolutely
21:05Tim
21:06I've gone
21:08north
21:09there's a lot of
21:09fishing going on
21:10on the northeast coast
21:11Yeah
21:12So I assume
21:13Middlesbrough
21:13Yeah
21:14Yeah up that way
21:15Grace is one of our
21:17leading food critics
21:18Do you know the answer
21:19to this
21:19It's where it's from
21:21Tim's making me
21:22doubt myself now
21:23Are we talking about
21:24Arbroath?
21:25I mean that was
21:26my first thought
21:27was Arbroath
21:28I've heard of an
21:29Arbroath Smokey
21:30I'm thinking it's
21:31Arbroath
21:32and I'm thinking
21:32that that is
21:33in
21:34Aberdeenshire
21:36Yeah
21:38Up there
21:39Just north of Aberdeen
21:40Tim you're making me
21:41doubt myself
21:42is it an English thing
21:43No
21:43Let's find out shall we
