Diarmuid Gavin, Roo Irvine, John Kearns, Claire Richards

Series 6, Week 6, Day 4

Every day this week, celebrity contestants Diarmuid Gavin, Roo Irvine, John Kearns and Claire Richards take on a series of quiz rounds selected by the host, quiz legend Richard Osman.

A daily winner is declared following a quickfire round at the end of each show, and the scores are tallied across the week, resulting in an overall champion being crowned on Friday.

Will the winning stars opt for the much-coveted House of Games suitcase, or will they be tempted with the House of Games decanter?

00:08Three days, three winners.
00:11This is going to be four days, four winners.
00:13What a week we're having on House of Games.
00:14No idea who's winning this trophy tomorrow.
00:17It is that close.
00:18Our players are Rue Irvin,
00:21Claire Richards,
00:23John Kearns,
00:25and Dermot Gavin.
00:28Hi, everybody.
00:29Hello.
00:30Rue, you won on Monday after a tie break.
00:31Claire, won on Tuesday after a tie break.
00:33Dermot, you won yesterday.
00:34How did that feel?
00:35How did that happen?
00:38I just changed the last word in that sentence
00:40just at the last second.
00:44Good, though, right?
00:45Yeah, well, it stops me feeling
00:47too much like an imposter.
00:49I feel like Dermot has got...
00:51I see sometimes people, when they win,
00:53sometimes people just go,
00:54do you know what, I am done.
00:56I'm going to sit back.
00:56He's got that kind of vibe about him.
00:58John, John, you're the only person not to win yet.
01:02However, you keep coming second.
01:04And if we look at the weekly leaderboards,
01:06you are only one point off the lead in this thing.
01:11You are still very much in the hunt for the trophy.
01:13Surely you've got a win in you in the next two days.
01:15It's been so close.
01:16Well, you know, everyone has won something.
01:20Everyone has won an episode.
01:21Yes.
01:22But, you know...
01:24Today's the day.
01:25I'm not going to be moaning if I either win today
01:28or even, who knows, maybe tomorrow.
01:30Tomorrow is the big one, isn't it?
01:32Double points Friday.
01:33Claire.
01:34Hi.
01:34Shall we take a look at today's prizes?
01:36Oh, yes, please.
01:37Everyone's got a prize so far.
01:39Oh, no, John hasn't.
01:40No, I don't have anything.
01:43John has nothing.
01:46You could win the playing cards,
01:48the coffee cup, the cycle helmets,
01:50the compost bin or the wheelie luggage.
01:52What do you reckon?
01:53Ooh, luggage.
01:54I really want the luggage.
01:55Yeah, that's got world tour.
01:57Wheelie, wheelie, yeah.
01:59If I could go on tour, world tour with steps,
02:01just even in avatar form, I'd be so happy.
02:04Amazing.
02:05I would love that.
02:06I want Claire to win now.
02:07Rue, would you go for luggage as well?
02:09Luggage, definitely.
02:10Going luggage as well.
02:11Johnny Boy?
02:12It's got to be the case.
02:13It's got to be the case.
02:14Luggage, luggage, luggage, Dermot?
02:16It's the luggage.
02:17Listen, Dermot's already on holiday.
02:21I've checked out.
02:21I can tell.
02:23They say that with footballers, don't they,
02:24on the last day of the season,
02:25when there's nothing left to play for.
02:26They're already on the beach.
02:29Everyone's going luggage.
02:30Let's find out who's going to win it, shall we,
02:32as we play our first round.
02:33Today it is...
02:34Sounds like...
02:38Fingers on buzzers, please.
02:40I'm going to show you a category.
02:44Acts who had a number one in the 90s.
02:46Anyone spring to mind?
02:47Don't know any of those.
02:49What I'm going to do is show you some pictures,
02:50and if you just tell me what you see in the pictures,
02:52they will essentially sound out an answer.
02:55Okay?
02:55So the pictures will tell you the name of an actor
02:58who had a UK number one in the 90s.
03:00Here's your first one.
03:01Yes, Clare.
03:08Charles and Eddie.
03:09Charles and Eddie is the answer.
03:10Prince Charles and Eddie Edwards.
03:12And Charles and Eddie, he did...
03:13What a Lie to You.
03:14That was their number one in the 90s.
03:17Next one.
03:24Rue.
03:25Shakespeare's sister.
03:27Shake Spears' sister.
03:28Shakespeare's sister.
03:31Shakespeare's sister.
03:33Next one.
03:37Huh?
03:40What are they doing?
03:45Sharing.
03:47John.
03:48Share.
03:49Share?
03:49Ah!
03:50Absolutely right.
03:52Oh, my goodness.
03:53Nice.
03:54Nicely played.
03:55Next category.
03:56Cocktails.
03:59What are these cocktails, please?
04:06Rue.
04:07Mai Tai.
04:09Well played.
04:10A might and an I.
04:11Mai Tai.
04:12Next cocktail.

04:23Bellini.
04:25Bellini.
04:26Oh, well done.
04:28Bell, Lee Francis and Nee.
04:30I'm thinking Keith Lemon.
04:31I'm thinking something Lemony.
04:32Lemon.
04:32Lemony.
04:32Lovely.
04:33Lemon-y.
04:33Lovely ring Lemony, please.
04:36Next cocktail.
04:37Yes, Claire.
04:46Rusty Nail.
04:46Rusty Nail.
04:47Rusty Lee and a fingernail.

04:54Legendary figures.
04:55Who are these legendary figures, please?
05:01Robin.
05:02John.
05:05Robin Hood.
05:06Robin Hood.
05:07It's right.
05:08Rob Beckett, a dustbin and a hood.
05:09Robin Hood.
05:11Next one.
05:21Yes, John.
05:22Eros.
05:23Eros.
05:24I remember his name.
05:25An ear and a Ross Noble.
05:27I was thinking it must be something Noble.
05:29Yeah.
05:29But it was something Ross.
05:30Eros, final question in this round.
05:39Yes, Claire.
05:40Pandora.
05:41Oh, lovely.
05:42Pan and Dora.
05:44Pandora.
05:45Our round is done.
05:47Our round is done.
05:48Let's take a look at what is done to the scoreboard.
05:50Look at Dermot.
05:51I'm on holidays.
05:52Did you even have your hand on the buzzer?
05:54I did.
05:54Charles and Eddie, you just...
05:57Pipped me there.
05:58Of course, Dermot, yesterday's champion, relaxing into Thursday.
06:03But the other three, Rue, Claire, John, all on three.
06:06Here we go.
06:07Leaders.
06:08How about that?
06:09Back to normal.
06:11Normal service resumes.
06:12Let's play a pairs game, shall we?
06:14Today is going to be...
06:19Totes emoji.
06:20Dermot, you get a choice of partner for this round.
06:23Who would you like to play with?
06:24I'm going to go with Claire.
06:25You're going to go with Claire.
06:28So, Rue and Dermot, if you ask what places, please.
06:31I'll go for some my legend.
06:35Welcome, Dermot.
06:38Before the show, you each sent me the name of a musical,
06:40but you're only allowed to use emojis.
06:42OK, you're now going to have to decipher the emojis
06:43that your partner sent to me.
06:45Claire, before the show, Dermot sent me some emojis.
06:48Are you an emoji fan, Dermot?
06:50No, I don't do emojis or Twitter or not that.
06:54You're a gardener.
06:55Don't do emojis.
06:56Listen, you work with your hands.
06:57You work with the soil.
06:58You know, come on.
06:59Come on, you guys.
07:00Get with it.
07:01With your emojis and your internet.
07:04OK?
07:04You can grow stuff.
07:06Goodness me.
07:08There's a lot of truth to be said for that.
07:10Screen's 24 hours a day, Dermot.
07:12Yeah.
07:12Oh, you're growing a courgette.
07:15Come on.
07:16Come on, guys.
07:18An aubergine.
07:19Yeah, an aubergine, exactly.
07:20Listen, what this guy does with an aubergine
07:22is very different to what you three do with an aubergine.
07:24That's all I'm saying.
07:25That's a different kind of emoji.
07:26Exactly.
07:27Now, Claire, this was the musical that Dermot sent to me.
07:30OK.
07:31What is this musical, please?
07:33Um, OK, so it's Ghost.
07:43Music, drama.
07:45Hmm.
07:46You'll kick yourself, Claire.
07:48Is it Ghost?
07:50The musical.
07:52I don't think it is, although that would fit Ghost the musical very well.
07:56But I think it fits something else as well.
07:58A more famous musical.
07:59Famous musical.
08:00Phantom of the Opera.
08:04Phantom of the Opera, Dermot.
08:06Absolutely.
08:07Well played, Claire.
08:08Nicely done.
08:10John, for the show, Rue sent me a clue to a musical.
08:15I wonder if you can tell me which musical it is.
08:22That feels very good to me.
08:25Nice, isn't it?
08:26Yeah.
08:26Well...
08:31John, that's confident.
08:33Penny for your thoughts, John?
08:34Oh, I know.
08:35Well, I know what that is.
08:37Yeah.
08:37But I think that's a song rather than the musical.
08:41Yeah.
08:42So I'm guessing it would probably be the musical the song is from...
08:47Evita.
08:48Evita is the right answer.
08:50The emojis are just a clue, not the clue.
08:53Oh, I do apologise.
08:54Sorry.
08:54It doesn't have to be the title.
08:56Well played, Rue.
08:58Well played, John.
08:58That's a lovely one.
08:59Dermot, before the show.
09:01Claire sent me the name of a musical.
09:04But I wonder which musical it is.
09:06It's a clue.
09:07Could be the title.
09:07Could be the plot.
09:08Could just be the vibe.
09:09Sometimes we vibe it in this round.
09:20Just looking for the proper title.
09:26There was one...
09:29Wicked.
09:30Wicked.
09:32Well played.
09:32Nicely done.
09:36Rue, before the show.
09:38John sent me the title of a musical in the form of emojis.
09:42But which musical is it?
09:47Oh, what the heck?
09:51OK.
09:53There's a vibe.
09:54There's a vibe going on.
09:56Mmm.
09:57Mmm.
10:00What is that in the middle?
10:02A comet?
10:02What is that?
10:03A meteor?
10:04Your emojis are next level.
10:06Yeah.
10:06I've never seen those emojis.
10:08No, I've never seen that middle emoji.
10:09OK, so if it's a vibe as opposed to the name,
10:13we've got a ram, a sheep type thing.
10:17Comet.
10:18OK, so there's comets and sheep in this musical.
10:20Have you got this at home?
10:21Have you worked this out?
10:24And the two people, aliens?
10:26War of the Worlds type stuff.
10:30I think we'll time you out, Rue.
10:36Any ideas on this team?
10:38John, why don't you take us through your emojis
10:40and then tell us the answer.
10:42Give me the vibe.
10:43Take care for that.
10:44Well, there's two people there.
10:46The collective we.
10:48A comet, yeah?
10:49The comet is rock.
10:53Rock?
10:53And a U.
10:56Oh!
10:56We will rock you.
10:58We will rock you.
11:00A U.
11:01Wow.
11:01I see where you were going.
11:02You were getting it.
11:03You were saying comet.
11:04You were saying sheep.
11:05Yes.
11:06How was she getting there by saying comet and sheep?
11:09Yeah.
11:10Rock you.
11:11Comet, sheep, rock you.
11:12Is it not a rock emoji?
11:14Like an actual rock?
11:15Not.
11:16Or like a stick of rock.
11:18Something.
11:19Yes, I've heard the search function.
11:20Stick of rock?
11:21Yeah.
11:22Or a guitar?
11:23Yeah.
11:23Or the queen?
11:25Bloke with a moustache.
11:28But loved it.
11:29We will rock you.
11:30And some people at home will have got that as well.
11:32Yes.
11:32Will they?
11:32Some people are screaming.
11:33Yeah, some people.
11:34I think it was a vibe.
11:35Very well done.
11:36If you did, that was a vibe.
11:37That really was a vibe.
11:38And I admired it.
11:41I admired the reach.
11:43Dermot and Rue, if you could swap back, please.
11:45That was the end of our pairs game.
11:47The end of our emojis.
11:50I loved it, John.
11:52Sick of rock.
11:53Sick of rock.
11:53Yeah, that would have been, yeah.
11:54Now you think about it.
11:57Let's take a look at the leaderboard, shall we?
11:58Thursday's House of Games.
11:59Two rounds down.
12:01It's been close all week.
12:02It's going to be close all week, isn't it?
12:03Dermot, you have two.
12:05Rue and John, four points each.
12:07Claire, out in the lead with five.
12:09We'll play Claire.
12:10Three rounds to go.
12:12Let's play our next round.
12:17What was a quiz host called Richard?
12:20Fingers on buzzers, please.
12:21I'm going to read you a series of limericks written by our question writers.
12:24But what are the limericks about, please?
12:26So what are the subjects of these limericks?
12:29This character's tale is compelling.
12:34She sets off for a relative's dwelling.
12:38Then reacts with surprise to her granny's big eyes.
12:43Yes, John?
12:44Little Red Riding Hood.
12:45Let's take a look.
12:47Is she eaten?
12:49Why, that would be telling.
12:51Little Red Riding Hood, John, well played.
12:53Next, a limerick.
12:58This sportswoman came on the scene
13:00as a mighty young pro of 14.
13:05That is Dermot.
13:06Emma Raducanu.
13:09Is the wrong answer, I'm afraid.
13:11Claire.
13:12Venus Williams.
13:13Venus Williams.
13:15That's incorrect as well.
13:16Shall we see the rest of the limerick?
13:17With a service that blisters,
13:21it beat even her sisters.
13:24Yes, Rue.
13:25Serena Williams.
13:26Serena Williams.
13:28Just like Venus, on court, she's the queen.
13:31There you go.
13:32Serena Williams, I'm afraid.
13:34It's an unlucky buzz in.
13:36Serena Williams.
13:37Well, I don't know if you said that at home.
13:38Next, limerick.
13:41He's an actor, composer and more.
13:44Who grew up by the NYC shore.
13:47He's flown a balloon
13:49and can carry a tune
13:51or, in Hamilton's case, a whole score.
13:57Claire.
13:57Lin-Manuel Miranda.
13:58Lin-Manuel Miranda.
14:01Absolutely right.
14:04Next, a limerick.
14:06This beast of the African plains
14:08to whom the word leonine appertains
14:12has a heart like a king's.
14:16Yes, Rue.
14:17Lion.
14:18Shall we see the rest of the limerick?
14:21And in Disney, he sings.
14:23And the boys have magnificent manes.
14:26Lion is the right answer, Rue.
14:27Well done.
14:30Next, limerick.
14:32This breakfast time star could be proud
14:34of his skill drawing up a large crowd.
14:39With loud music a-pumping,
14:42he got Britain jumping.
14:44Yes, Dermot.
14:46Mr. Motivator.
14:47Mr. Motivator.
14:50And his lycra, that also was loud.
14:53Mr. Motivator.
14:54I'll give it away.
14:55Good work done.
14:55Good work done, Dermot.
14:57Final limerick in this round.
14:59Played by Ustinov, Suchet, and Wells.
15:05Yes, Claire.
15:06Poirot.
15:07Let's take a look.
15:08In a series of boats, trains, hotels,
15:11this sleuth never flash,
15:15will just twiddle his tash,
15:16and count on his little grey cells.
15:20Poirot.
15:21Lovely end to the round.
15:22Round of applause for our question marks as well
15:24for the limericks.
15:25Very good.
15:26And we'll take a look at the leaderboard
15:29at the end of round three.
15:32Points for everyone there.
15:34Dermot, you're on three.
15:35John, you're on five.
15:36Rue, six.
15:37Still out in the lead.
15:38Claire Richards with seven points.
15:40Well played, Claire.
15:41Two rounds to go
15:42before we find our fourth champion of the week.
15:45Who's it going to be?
15:46Is John going to come second by one point again?
15:48I mean, yeah, for sure.
15:50Our fourth round is...
15:53The Rich List, if you take your tablets out, please.
15:59I also have a tablet in this round.
16:02What we're going to do now,
16:03I'm going to show you some categories.
16:04You just need to write down
16:05a correct answer in that category.
16:08You will score a point if you get a correct answer,
16:10unless someone else writes the same as you,
16:12in which case you will not get a point.
16:14I also write down a word to try and avoid mine,
16:17and at home, try and avoid all of our answers if you can.
16:20So, write me down a correct answer in this category, please.
16:25Any UK national park
16:26that has a coastline?
16:30Oh.
16:31You know, the national parks,
16:33the various moors and all that kind of malarkey.
16:35Oh.
16:37But one with a coastline...
16:40Oh, this is tricky.
16:41We don't like geography, do we?
16:42No, I don't do geography.
16:45I just think of nice places in Britain
16:46that people go on holiday
16:47and that's, uh, they're usually national parks.
16:49That...
16:50I suddenly can't think of any
16:54that have a coastline.
16:57On road trip,
16:58you're always heading off
16:59to various beautiful parts of the country, aren't you?
17:01Yeah, but we never know where we are
17:03at any one time.
17:04It's just in and out.
17:05For sure.
17:06You know, it's...
17:08In, by some Clarice Cliff, out.
17:10Yeah.
17:10People say, where were you last week?
17:12I don't know.
17:12Gone.
17:13I don't know.
17:13Yeah, like the SAS, but for dinner plates.
17:16Exactly, yeah.
17:18So we don't muck around.
17:19Yeah.
17:24I've got one.
17:28Roo, we're all slightly worried about this.
17:30What are you saying?
17:32I'm pretty sure it's not...
17:34It's not the name of the national park.
17:36I know that there is a national park area.
17:39Loch Lomond National Park.
17:41There is a national park there,
17:42but I'm not sure what the official title is.
17:44Yeah, that sounds all right.
17:46Loch Lomond National Park.
17:47Loch Lomond and the Trossacks, isn't it, I think?
17:50It's absolutely right.
17:51You get yourself a point.
17:52Oh, my goodness.
17:52A bit the same thing.
17:53Claire, what are you saying?
17:55I have absolutely no idea,
17:57but I always hear people go here on holiday.
18:01New Forest, that's on the coast.

18:16I mean...
18:17Oh, that's annoying.
18:18I couldn't do it.
18:20That's tough.
18:21I thought there must be a park above the White Cliffs.
18:24Oh, is it?
18:25Well, maybe White Cliffs, yeah, yeah.
18:26Just don't play around the edge.
18:28A few trees and stuff, yeah.
18:29And Dermot, what are you saying?
18:32Snowdonia.
18:33Snowdonia, surely.

18:40I love Wales, Dermot.
18:42What can I say?
18:42Oh.
18:43I said Pembrokeshire Coast,
18:44is what I've said,
18:46which is correct,
18:46but has not affected anyone.
18:48So, three points we give away.
18:50Let's take a look at anything else
18:51you could have said at home.
18:52Well done if you avoided all of our answers
18:54and said...
18:55The Broads, Exmoor,

19:02that we didn't say.
19:03Well done if you've got any of them.
19:05A new category.
19:06That was hard, really.
19:08You don't even do that on Pointless Hard.
19:12We're looking for...
19:13Blimey, you're talking about hard.
19:14We're looking for any UK top 40 single

19:21Oh, things.
19:23Bonkers.
19:24I'm trying to think...
19:25This is my ear, I should know.
19:26I was going to say,
19:27I bet you've been on top of the pots
19:28with Simply Red, yeah.
19:29In Bournemouth,
19:30when it went on the road.
19:32Oh, really?
19:33Yeah.
19:33Oh, wow.
19:34It's vivid memory.
19:35It's the funniest thing
19:37I've ever done.
19:37Present top of the pots.
19:38Did you present top of the pots?
19:39Did you present top of the pots?

19:57That sounds about right.
19:59Absolutely.
20:01John, don't say you've written Dover again.
20:03Dover is going to haunt me.
20:08Well, I crossed one out
20:09because I thought it might be too obvious,
20:10but I think this is the name of the song.
20:12Money's Too Tight to Mention.
20:13Oh, good one.
20:15Money's Too Tight to Mention.
20:15Damn you.
20:16That's the correct answer.
20:18Very well done.

20:20Dermot, what are you saying?
20:23Oh, Money's Too Tight to Mention.
20:26Great minds think alike.
20:27Sorry, you both lose a point.
20:29I crossed one out.
20:30I went for the obvious one that was definitely before 99.
20:33Money's Too Tight to Mention,
20:34but I was thinking of a new flame.
20:36So you've got Money's Too Tight to Mention.
20:38Great minds really do think alike.
20:39I know, it was going to be a new flame.
20:40Claire, you're the only person with a point,
20:42unless I've written the same as somebody here,
20:45and I have written the same as somebody here.
