John Hall (David Andrews) is a drifter who wanders into a small town in Maine. He needs a job and decides to seek employment at the community's top business: a large textile mill. He is hired to work the "graveyard shift" -- from around midnight to dawn -- and, along with a few others, he is charged with cleaning out the basement. This task strikes the workers as simple enough, but then, as they proceed deeper underground, they encounter an unspeakable monstrosity intent on devouring them all.

00:04:47Surprise, surprise.
00:04:52I know you're there, Warwick.
00:04:55You know something?
00:04:57You just saved me a trip to your office.
00:04:59I may be desperate for work, but I'm not desperate enough to...
00:05:17Ow!
00:05:19Ow!
00:05:47You hear me?
00:05:48You hear me?
00:05:49Stand the stairs, through to me...

00:05:52I never had a bed yet.
00:05:53Can you just drive milk?
00:05:54Silence.
00:05:55This is free to be in the morning, so...
00:05:56Okay.
00:05:57I can only do the time next time.
00:05:58I can only Savior, but when I was sacred資料, I am not draining my writing!
00:05:59So I will have to do something more explaining in the future.
00:06:00If I quote this.
00:06:01If I put my father, I will have to do something new, then what I will have to do.
00:08:33Okay, let it rip!
00:09:23God!
00:09:25Damn!

00:09:59One more pair of boots, you're gonna have to open a boot shop.
00:10:03Anyways, Mary.
00:10:07Say!
00:10:08Pulling on the door, I'm so excited.
00:10:09You're gonna have to go with your cocaine up.
00:10:17You're going to have to go with your knife, I'm so happy.
00:10:19You're going to have to go with your knife, and you're gonna have to go with your knife.
00:10:20Daisy Mae, let's make us a baby-doggy style.
00:10:30They found him in pieces.
00:10:32The rats, little cannibals were all over.
00:10:34It was really unbelievable.
00:10:41What you got in the bag, pal?
00:10:44Not very friendly, is these things?
00:10:49I don't know.
00:10:50I bet his mommy packs his lunch.
00:11:03Peanut butter and jelly, babe.
00:11:05Without the crust.
00:11:07Looks like a boy scout.
00:11:11Maybe a girl scout.
00:11:14Be around, girl scout.
00:11:17You ought to see who they're hiring for new mule.
00:11:19She is one cute little chick.
00:11:21... accidental death at Bachman Textile
00:11:24has opened the restored mill to a series of investigations
00:11:27and probable lawsuits.
00:11:29Jason Reed had been working the night shift
00:11:31to when the mysterious accidents occurred.
00:11:42Good morning, Mr. Warwick.
00:11:43Hello.
00:11:44Hello.
00:12:03Oh, God.
00:12:04This is bad.
00:12:06Extreme safety hazard.
00:12:07Exterminator's working round the clock.
00:12:12He's tired.
00:12:15Needs more time.
00:12:17There's already been one accident.
00:12:19This place has to be cleared
00:12:20before another worker steps foot in this death trap.
00:12:22July 4th holiday.
00:12:37I'll organize a cleanup.
00:12:41I'll hold on to this.
00:12:43He'll then.
00:12:43I'll be back.
00:12:54To be honest,
00:12:55I don't think you'll find a crew that would work it.
00:12:58Not down here.
00:13:01We'll see.
00:13:02Come shower with me.
00:13:28This will work out just fine.
00:13:48See you later.
00:13:49Bye.
00:13:52Morning.
00:13:53Morning.
00:13:55Morning.
00:13:58Take coffee.
00:14:03Mr. Hall.
00:14:05No thanks.
00:14:05I'll pass today.
00:14:07Yeah.
00:14:09Me too.
00:14:11Can't be more than an instant animal by now.
00:14:21You here by car or by thump?
00:14:24By Greyhound.
00:14:26See, you got a real problem staying put.
00:14:28Lots of movement over the past five years.
00:14:31Starts down in Florida.
00:14:33Jumps all the way up the map.
00:14:35Are you on the run, friend?
00:14:37I'm here for a fresh start.
00:14:43College boy.
00:14:46No.
00:14:47That's not the problem.
00:14:48Then with all due respect, what is?
00:14:53Bad enough.
00:14:54Yeah.
00:14:56Yeah.
00:14:58Putting it plainly, Mr. Hall, you're the drifter.
00:15:00And I get no guarantees with the drifter.
00:15:03You get no guarantees with any man.
00:15:06It's only instinct.
00:15:07You spend some time at Munson Textile.
00:15:14You ever run the pickup?
00:15:17I know how.
00:15:18And you also know it's a one-man operation.
00:15:21This mill depends on that machine.
00:15:24And what's left against falls depends on this mill.
00:15:29Now, we don't do better than minimum to start.
00:15:32Four weeks before the union comes knocking at your door.
00:15:38You're still interested.
00:15:40Sounds fair to start.
00:15:41All right, then.
00:15:43That's it.
00:15:44Except for the hours.
00:15:46Because of the heat, we only run that sucker through the night.
00:15:50Eleven to seven.
00:15:54The graveyard shift.
00:15:56Spread the world, sucker.
00:16:21Mice?

00:20:30All right.
00:20:31All right.
00:20:36Let's hear about all how you're grinning.
00:20:37Anyways.
00:20:38Conditions being with the work back, and we have a little choice.
00:20:44We shared land, we shared, our food with the fuckers,
00:20:48and they turn around, stabbing us in the back by going to work for the VC.
00:20:54That's right.
00:20:56Because the VC would rewarn them with a hot meal.
00:21:03Now, do you have any idea what a VC rat eats?
00:21:15Try a raw American hold of mayo, thank you.
00:21:20Come, that way, serving up a meal real nice and fancy.
00:21:35They'd stake one of our boys to the ground.
00:21:40Through his hands, through his feet, they'd stake him like Jesus.
00:21:49And then, they'd make the cut just above the abdomen.
00:21:56Now, this wasn't a fatal cut.
00:22:00This is merely an inch of wound.
00:22:05And then, they'd get a rat, a real hungry rat,
00:22:12one that hadn't been feeding for about a week.
00:22:16And they'd put it on the wound, and they'd
00:22:20stick its nose down inside.
00:22:24And if the damn thing wasn't starving enough,
00:22:27they'd cover it with a flaming rice bowl.
00:22:30And let me tell you, that gray, black son of a bitch would have nowhere else to go but inside.
00:22:39And he'd start to tunnel his way through looking to put an end to that loud beating sound.
00:22:47That that human artichoke, so warm, so juicy.
00:22:53Yeah.
00:22:58So, uh, maybe I'm a little prejudiced.
00:23:08Anybody call break?
00:23:16Ain't no laughing on company hours.
00:23:20Oh, looks like you just bought yourself a shift.
00:23:26Scrubbing the latrines.
00:23:28Shit. I should be downstairs humiliating the college boy by now.

00:24:38Thanks.
00:24:40Well, you look tired.

00:37:38I don't know.
00:38:08I don't know.
00:38:38Mr. Hall, I wanted to drop in and thank you.
00:38:47Sorry about that situation with Rondello.
00:38:50I don't know.
00:38:51I don't know.
00:38:52I don't know.
00:38:53I don't know.

00:38:59I don't know.
00:39:01I don't know.
00:39:02I don't know.
00:39:03I don't know.
00:39:04I don't know.
00:39:05I don't know.
00:39:06I don't know.
00:39:07I don't know.
00:39:08I don't know.
00:39:09I don't know.
00:39:10I don't know.
00:39:11I don't know.
00:39:12I don't know.
00:39:13I don't know.

00:39:15I don't know.
00:39:16I don't know.
00:39:17I don't know.
00:39:18I don't know.
00:39:19I don't know.
00:39:20union. Lay off wig for the rest. But there is work available for a select few.
00:39:30We got that there cleanup thing going on down the basement. Regular graveyard shift hours
00:39:37and I'm hand-picking the crew. Now, to tell you the truth, I watched you
00:39:49work and I like your style. Gonna be a mess? No doubt about it. That bastard ain't been
00:40:01touched since Christ was a kid, but it's for double pay. Now, you tell me if an educated
00:40:10guy like you can't use double pay.
00:40:19Thank you, Mr. Warwick. You're so welcome, Mr. Warwick.
00:40:34Hey, Commander. Hey, Ratman. You must feel awful special. You're gonna be down in the shit pit with the rest of us.
00:40:56Yeah. I bet he likes your style. Wait a minute. He said he liked my style.
00:41:06What's going on? I guess we finally made Warwick's clean-up crew.
00:41:14Congratulations. I want to get out of here. Yeah.
00:41:24Thanks.
00:41:34Thanks.
00:41:36You were hungry. Yeah, for decent food. It's been a while.
00:41:57I worked at Spell as a short order cook. In Miami. Most of the burgers.
00:42:05So, I want to hear the rest of your story. You got married, left Castle Rock against your father's advice.
00:42:12Yeah. I'm worried that's always right.
00:42:26Anyway, it wasn't too long after my divorce, Warwick came sniffing around.
00:42:34He said he wanted to help. He felt bad. So, he offered me a promotion to office manager to ease my emotional as well as financial burdens.
00:42:45All I'd have to do in return was perform a couple of days a week on the couch in his office.
00:42:50He even had him picked out Monday and Wednesday. Son of a bitch.
00:42:58You should have brought him up on charges. I tried and was advised by personnel to see a therapist.
00:43:11They couldn't get rid of me. I was saved by the union and the fact that Warwick would come out looking like the basic shit he already is.
00:43:21So, I'm still here. I'm borrowed time, I guess.
00:43:51I bet you hate him too, Mrs. Warwick.
00:44:14I bet you hate him too, Mrs. Warwick.
00:44:21This will teach you to fire me, you son of a bitch.
00:44:48Shit.
00:44:50You son of a bitch.
00:44:51You son of a bitch.
00:45:06You son of a bitch.
00:45:11Let's go surfing now, everybody's running out, and it surprised me.
00:45:22Early in the morning, we'll be starting now.
00:45:26The money will be big to see.
00:45:29I learned up my money with the boards on top,
00:45:32and I put on my baby's weekend.
00:45:35It's my debut.
00:45:37It's my birthday.
00:45:39Tom Michael, do you want to try it?
00:45:49Tom Michael!
00:45:51Justin, leave the ghetto blaster back in the ghetto.
00:45:55Yes, sir.
00:45:59Don't want anybody being cute with one of these.
00:46:03End up spraying one of your buddies back onto a slab.
00:46:07Now, work area is listed over there, just like we talked about.
00:46:13Job split evenly, night by night.
00:46:17Tried to keep it interesting.
00:46:19Any questions?
00:46:21Basically, need to have this basement, workable state by next Thursday.
00:46:27Only got the chain hoist the following night.
00:46:31Execute these orders, you'll get through it without a snag.
00:46:35And then what happens?
00:46:36Do we all, like, get a gold watch or something?
00:46:39No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:46:49Sure beats nailing them with soda pop.
00:46:51Sure beats nailing them with soda pop.
00:46:53No, I will.
00:46:55No!
00:46:56No!
00:47:09No!
00:47:10No!
00:47:11No!
00:47:12Oh, my God!
00:47:42What are you doing?
00:47:52Warwick says to list everything.
00:47:54Fifty-year-old files are crap. List them as fifty-year-old crap.
00:47:59It's not salvageable.
00:48:12Hey, check this out.
00:48:28Come on, take a break.
00:48:30The longer it takes, the longer we'll be down here doing it.
00:48:35This thing's in great shape.
00:48:42Oof.
00:49:10Brogan!
00:49:12Rats.
00:49:28No problem.
00:49:42Where are you going, asshole?
00:50:04No!
00:50:15No!
00:50:16No!
00:50:17No!
00:50:22No!
00:50:27No!
00:50:37You goddamn ignoramus, you almost killed me!
00:50:40What the hell is your problem, Brogan?
00:50:43I ain't got a problem.
00:50:46You got a problem?
00:50:48Look, guys, this is crazy.
00:51:09We were hired as a clean-up crew, not as exterminators.
00:51:13I mean, I need this money as bad as the next guy, but we are not damn exterminators!
00:51:20What's your problem, boy?
00:51:25We were hired to clean the basement up.
00:51:27We?
00:51:32You speaking for everybody?
00:51:35Or just yourself?
00:51:43Just me, Mr. Warwick?
00:52:00Just me, Mr. Warwick.
00:52:03Yeah?
00:52:05Yeah.
00:52:10You best be punching out your time card permanently.
00:52:16Is that clear, boy?
00:52:33Somebody call break.
00:52:40Come on.
00:52:41Come on.
00:52:42Come on.
00:52:43Kill it.
00:52:44Control that sack of fleas, Cleveland.
00:52:46Please.
00:52:47Moxie, come on.
00:52:48Come on over here.
00:52:49Moxie, here's a...
00:52:50It's a real special breed.
00:52:51Rat terrier.
00:52:52He didn't waste his puppy years down at the beach playing frisbee with Frankie in a net.
00:53:05He's too busy training.
00:53:07I don't know.
00:53:08I don't know.
00:53:09I'm not sure.
00:53:10I'm not sure.
00:53:11I don't know.
00:53:12I don't know.
00:53:13I don't know.
00:53:14I don't know.
00:53:15I don't know.
00:53:16I don't know.
00:53:17I don't know.
00:53:18I don't know.
00:53:19I don't know.
00:53:20He's too busy training.
00:53:22Tracking rats through walls.
00:53:24Concrete.
00:53:25Looks to me like you don't always win.
00:53:29Hey, Moxie, cut that out.
00:53:33Given.
00:53:34We got ourselves a little problem, you and me.
00:53:38Our sister mills along the river don't take too kindly having their backyards polluted by rats, too.
00:53:45But our own Mr. Bachman has graciously agreed to keep your name out of any impending lawsuit.
00:53:55You are legally responsible.
00:53:58And it comes right down to it.
00:54:02Ain't you a kick in the nuts.
00:54:08First off, I was called personally by Bachman and told to pump directly into the river because, just between you, me and Moxie, he was too cheap to spring for the dumping charges himself.
00:54:24I hope you got that in writing.
00:54:30Fuck you.
00:54:31No, Cuban, fuck you.
00:54:32A thunk like that could easily cost an exterminator's license.
00:54:36But again, no one's naming names.
00:54:41We're only asking you to provide one additional service.
00:54:46I've got an idea where them things is nothing.
00:54:51It shouldn't take you more than a night.
00:55:11Okay, what is it you got me doing?
00:55:18When's the last time you've been to a graveyard?
00:55:24Come on, Moxie.
00:55:37Find that little comb so we can get back to ours.
00:55:54Come on, Moxie.
00:55:55Get him.
00:55:56Eat him for breakfast.
00:56:24Come on, Moxie.
00:56:36It just ain't no job worth this.
00:56:45Moxie?
00:56:48Moxie?
00:56:53Ain't no dog worth it either.
00:56:56No dog worth it either.
00:57:23Get him.
00:57:25Go.
00:57:26Visit him.
00:57:27No dog.
00:57:30No dog.
00:57:31Go.
00:57:33That's a kid.
00:57:35Go.
00:57:36Go.
00:57:37Go.
00:57:38Go.
00:57:39Go.
00:57:41Go.
00:57:42Go.
00:57:43Go.
00:57:45Go.
00:57:46Go.
00:57:47Go.
00:57:48Go.
00:57:49Go.
00:57:50Go.
00:57:51Just a few more hours.
00:57:54I know.
00:58:16Break's over.
00:58:18Back to work.
00:58:22It's almost over.
00:58:24I thought it would never end.
00:58:25The place still looks like shit.
00:58:26What are they looking to put down here?
00:58:28Nightclub.
00:58:29Really?
00:58:31You must have been at the top of your class, Brogan.
00:58:34Truth is, they're expanding for office space.
00:58:37They want to have an office down here.
00:58:48Hey!
00:58:50Look at this.
00:58:55What you got, kids?
00:58:57Trap door.
00:58:59Well, ain't that interesting?
00:59:01Certainly is.
00:59:03That's where your rats are coming from.
00:59:06They're breeding underground.
00:59:08You know it all, don't you all?
00:59:12Hey, boys.
00:59:14Come on over here.
00:59:21I can't get it.
00:59:22I can't get it.
00:59:23Brogan.
00:59:24Give me a hand.
00:59:32Wow.
00:59:33I wonder what's down there.
00:59:35Brogan, fetch a lamp.
00:59:37You're not thinking about going down in there.
00:59:42Me?
00:59:43No, I.
00:59:44No, sir.
00:59:46Johnny's on hoses tonight.
00:59:48Trust his judgment, him being a college boy and all.
00:59:52On one condition.
00:59:53I'll need an extra body to help me carry the line.
00:59:57Name you Bobby.
00:59:58You, Mr. Foreman.
01:00:13The management should be represented in this little adventure.
01:00:16Don't you think?
01:00:18In case there is buried treasure, I wouldn't want to be accused of filling my pockets.
01:00:21Hmm.
01:00:24You're first.
01:00:26Be right after you, huh?
01:00:30I'm going.
01:00:37Danson, come I go.
01:00:39Come on, gear up.
01:00:41Brogan, you too.
01:00:44At Backman, we're just one big happy family.
01:00:51Yeah.
01:00:53The Manson family.
01:01:19You all right?
01:01:21I'm going to set you down.
01:01:26Come on.
01:01:28Hold on, hold on.
01:01:30Brogan, watch the step.
01:01:40What the hell we got here?
01:01:43Bicon power sauce.
01:01:45Water power.
01:01:46Looks like it hasn't worked in years.
01:01:48Smells like stale piss down here.
01:01:50I say we turn around right now.
01:01:52So much for your breeding ground, Hall.
01:01:55You feel it?
01:01:56Does it hurt?
01:01:57Yeah.
01:02:03Dats?
01:02:04Dats.
01:02:10Ha ha ha ha.

01:03:51Shut up!
01:03:53Come, Michael!
01:04:17We use these for weapons.
01:04:31Something our friend Hall doesn't got.
01:04:35And I'll deal with her.
01:04:37Her and Hall.
01:04:39Fuck Hall, dammit.
01:04:41Forget about Hall and start thinking about whatever the hell is down here.
01:04:47He found the opening.
01:04:51He brought us down there.
01:04:55Wouldn't be here if it weren't for him.
01:04:59So don't go telling me my business.
01:05:05You're going out of your mind, Warwick.
01:05:09You just stood there and watched Brogan die.
01:05:13You did.
01:05:15All right, move.
01:05:23All right, move.
01:05:37It's a dead end.
01:05:39There must be some other way out of here.
01:05:41There must be some other way out of here.
01:05:47Listen.
