00:00So I'm here at Cable Beach where a major redevelopment project is underway.
00:06It's an iconic WA location known for its long stretches of white sand, camels on the beach and of course four-wheel drives.
00:14Now that vehicle access to the northern stretch of the beach has actually been shut off while works are underway.
00:20We spoke to some tourists that were here about what they think of all this construction while they're on holiday.
00:26It's going to be absolutely fantastic but as tourists visiting it's quite inconvenient at the moment to access the beach.
00:34It's unfortunate that they have to do it at peak time of the year but that's the way it is.
00:39And if you were the first time to Broome you'd probably think I'm not coming back there.
00:42But because we've been coming for so long we're happy to put up with it like it is and know that it'll be even maybe more better next year.
00:50Locals have actually banded together and started a petition which has already garnered around a thousand signatures.
00:55Now what they want is a temporary access ramp so they can get to this more private northern stretch on the beach via vehicle.
01:03The Shire say it's a bit of a no pain no gain kind of situation and want to assure the local community that it will be worth the wait.
01:11The tourists that are heading up this way during the dry season will just have to deal with a bit of construction while they're looking out over their ocean views.
