00:00A new day of demonstrations in support of the popular referendum called by the national
00:16government is beginning in Colombia's main cities. And demonstrations were held throughout
00:25Argentina following the political proscription of former president Cristina Fernandez.
00:33International human rights organizations warn of increasing food crisis among Palestinian
00:37people due to Israeli siege.
00:45Hello welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from The LSU Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:50We'll begin with the news, stay with us.
01:05A new day of demonstrations in support of the popular referendum called by the national government
01:09is beginning in Colombia's main cities. The activity organized by the country's trade
01:13unions aims to defend workers' fundamental rights and pressure the Senate to approve President
01:18Gustavo Petro's labor reform. United Workers' Central stated that Wednesday's demonstrations
01:24are a rejection of the Colombian right-wing's attempts to halt state projects and restrict
01:28public participation due to the lack of support for the labor reform in the national congress.
01:33The government has called for a popular consultation to allow Colombians to vote on issues related
01:38to labor rights and social justice.
01:49We stay in Colombia as the fourth and last debate of the labor reform will begin Wednesday
01:53with the plenary of the Colombian Senate. This way the Senate expressed the commitment
01:57of the caucus to move forward until a verdict is reached on the initiative. The bill seeks to
02:02modify the current labor legislation which was approved by the Chamber of Representatives
02:06in October 2024. As the Opera House resumes the debate, trade unions and confederations
02:11of pensioners call workers to push for their demands to be met in the legislature. They
02:15summed to a national mobilization rallying in main cities such as Cali, Pereira, Medellin,
02:20Barranquilla, Bucaramanga and Bogotá.
02:27The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced to preside a meeting in Cali with military forces
02:34to clarify the escalation of violence that hit the southwest of the country. The head
02:39of state assured that on the encounter with senior military and police officers they would
02:43study all information on both the original mafia and the Saturday attack on the senator
02:47and presidential precandidate for the union of the Democratic Center, Miguel Uribe. In this
02:53regard, the commander of the military forces, Admiral Francisco Cubides, gave instructions
02:58to maintain public order to intensify the operational offensive and to keep up with the daily work
03:03of the police.
03:11In Argentina, following the political proscription of former President Cristina Fernandez, demonstrations
03:16were held in Córdoba, Rosario, Bariloche, Mendoza, Santa Fe, Mar del Plata and Quilmes,
03:22among other cities. In addition, several unions set up roadblocks on the Pan American Highway
03:27and on several sections of the La Plata-Buenos Aires Highway. Meanwhile, students held significant
03:32assemblies at universities and approved the occupation of faculties and street blockades.
03:37On Tuesday, Argentina, the Supreme Court upheld the prison sentence to the two-times president
03:42as civil and political forces denounced this as a form of political persecution, jailing
03:46mille's most relevant opponent, months ahead of the country's legislative elections.
03:58In Argentina, citizens expressed their rejection to the Supreme Court's sentence
04:02against former president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and reiterated their support and
04:07solidarity with their former president.
04:09The conviction outrages me because it's the opposite of what can be expected to happen
04:15in the judiciary. For magistrates who violated all the constitutional guarantees handing down
04:19a ruling, the conviction after it has already been declared that the case was oxidized and
04:26acquitted, that it's a laughing stock. I cannot stay at home because Cristina did a lot of things
04:32for all of us. We have to be here supporting her. Today we are more Peronese than ever. We are more
04:38Argentine than ever. So let's support our candidate, the one who did everything for us, the one who gave
04:43everything.
04:44They wanted to kill her and now they are putting her in jail and she has been saying it for a long
04:50time and today was the day. But this is not going to stay like this because Peronism is standing here
04:57and Peronism is going to unite from Cristina's house without any doubt.
05:01And in this context, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum sent her solidarity to the Argentine leader
05:08after the court's ruling.
05:13We express our full solidarity with Cristina Kirchner. From our point of view, this is more
05:18of a political issue and she has our solidarity.
05:24In other topics, Nicaragua's National Institute of Development Information reported significant
05:29progress in the fight against inflation. According to the institution, Nicaragua is positioned
05:34as one of the most economically stable countries in Central America. In May 2025, monthly inflation
05:41measured by the Consumer Price Index stood at 0.17%, which is lower than the 0.60 registered
05:47in the same month of 2024. In the same report, authorities highlight that inflation so far in 2025 reached
05:531.04%, compared to the 2.58% reported in 2024, in the same period.
06:04And Haitian media outlets have criticized the fact that the state is spending millions of dollars
06:09on deputy salaries in a parliament that remains paralysed to this day. According to local media
06:14reports, the artilian country spends around $4.42 million on the salaries of 3,826 legislative body
06:22employees, despite the body having ceased its functions a few years ago. The Ministry of Finance,
06:27which issues the payments, has specified that 1,469 Senate employees received over $9.6 million,
06:37while 2,357 Chamber of Deputies employees received $12.8 million. The Haitian media also points out that the
06:44Ministry of Finance is aware that these workers are being paid for doing nothing, but claims that it does not
06:49have the authority to dismiss them, even though they are not providing any service to the state.
06:59And now we have a short break coming up. Remember, you can join us on TikTok,
07:03at Telesu English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
07:07We're going to be right back. Stay with us.
07:30Welcome back. The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, announced usually a limited curfew to go into effect for part of the city's downtown
07:36after several nights of violence. According to the city official, the curfew will be in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday,
07:43and may continue for several days. The curfew does not apply to residents and people who work in the area.
07:50The order comes after a weekend of protests that turn violent in downtown L.A. area.
07:55On Monday, largely peaceful protests during the day were followed by a night of looting and vandalism.
07:59Bass said a curfew had been considered for several days but was deemed necessary after 23 businesses were looted
08:06or vandalized on the night.
08:08to businesses and a number of properties.
08:11And it is not.
08:15Fres-Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum further addressed the accusations made by the United States Secretary of Homeland Security,
08:22Kristen Noem, on Tuesday, reaffirming she never called for violent demonstrations.
08:26From the outset, we said that we do not agree with raids as a way of dealing with migrants in the United States,
08:37and they have the full support of the consulates, but we have never called for violent mobilization, never in our entire lives.
08:46In almost three months after more than 250 Venezuelan migrants were held in a prison for terrorists in El Salvador,
08:55a clock of silence surrounds the case.
08:57Neither their lawyers nor their families have had access to them.
09:01From El Salvador, our correspondent Roberto Gopresa with the details.
09:06Jaime Ortega leads the team of lawyers hired by the government of Venezuela to represent more than 250 migrants from that country,
09:13held in the terrorist confinement center, SIGOT, less than a week before three months of their illegal confinement,
09:21the lawyers have not had any contact.
09:23We can speak of a delay of justice. Of a delay of justice? Why?
09:36Because perfectly well, the institution of habeas corpus generates and requires an immediate dynamic.
09:40It requires expeditious acts. Why? Because we are dealing with the personal freedom of a human being.
09:47In this case, the personal freedom of 252 Venezuelan citizens.
09:51They have been totally isolated for almost three months.
09:56This lawyer is clear that this is a political case, which has nothing to do with a violation of US migration laws.
10:01The fact that there is no law for them, to be able to resolve them in a prone manner, means that they are still in a legal limbo.
10:13Therefore, they are forgotten by a system that does not recognize them, as in El Salvador they are not processed,
10:19but also in a system that rejects them on behalf of US immigration.
10:22Therefore, if this were a legal issue, it would have been resolved by now, but it's totally a political issue.
10:30Social organizations have been vigilant and have repeatedly requested the government to release them and respect their rights.
10:37It must be remembered that there is no legal and juridical basis in Salvadoran legislation to help Venezuelan citizens who have not been seen or held in court to be imprisoned in Salvadoran jails.
10:54Salvadoran jails are for those who have been convicted for crimes in Salvadoran judicial processes.
10:58In view of the silence of the state and the passivity of the justice institutions, the lawyers see the ruling of a federal judge in Maryland,
11:07which ordered the US government to design a mechanism for Venezuelans to have the right to a hearing within a period of time that expires this Wednesday as a way out.
11:15We are ready. We have each and every one of the documents already prepared so that when the government of the United States and El Salvador coordinate the situation and calls to be ready to meet them,
11:30to let them know their rights both in El Salvador and the United States. And for this reason we also have a strategic alliance with US lawyers who are experts in immigration issues.
11:40In view of the uncertainty, relatives of two migrants detained at Zico traveled to this country to try to arrange a visit to the maximum security prison where entry is prohibited.
11:53Roberto Hugo Presa, Telesur, El Salvador.
11:57Moving on, on Tuesday, the United States and China have agreed on a framework to implement their trade-truths and remove China's export restrictions on rare earths.
12:06U.S. and Chinese negotiators agreed in principle to a framework on how to implement the consensus reached by the previous round of talks in Geneva last month and a phone call between the two countries' leaders last week.
12:18Officials on both sides will now take the proposals back to their leaders for approval.
12:22While neither side disclosed any specifics of the deal, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lubinck indicated that both had agreed to roll back export controls on goods and technologies that are crucial to the other.
12:33Two sides had agreed in principle on a framework for implementing the consensus reached on the phone call on June 5th and at the talks on Geneva.
12:49We hope that progress made at the London meeting will be conducive to strengthening trust between China and the United States.
12:56Well, we know that they're motivated. Our president is motivated. We're moving as quickly as we can. So, you know, we would very much like to find an agreement that makes sense for both countries. The relationship is complex. There are challenges that can't be eliminated in a couple of months, of course.
13:12But there are things we potentially could do. So, you know, I just think we feel positive about the real challenges we've had for many years and some will endure.
13:25International human rights organisations warn of increasing food crisis among Palestinian people due to Israeli siege. Local media reported that the Israeli regime had besieged the gas strip once again.
13:43As a result of such blockade, the entry of vector supplies have been reduced in alarming figures so that gas can suffer from famine deadly. In addition to the siege, the Netanyahu administration has shown lack of commitment and delays on the permits to enter the enclave.
13:56Likewise, international organizations, including the United Nations, urge the humanitarian and humanitarian drugs needed safer and more reliable transit routes due to the insecurity and lawlessness experienced by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
14:21The foreign ministry of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom announced sanctions and other measures against Israeli government ministers after they incited violence against Palestinians.
14:39According to David Lammy, the head of British Diplomacy, Ministers Itamar Benbir and Besadel Smotrich, who hold the security and finance portfolios in Benjamin Tanjahu's executive, have incited extremist violence and serious abuses of Palestinian human rights.
14:54These actions mean that Benbir and Smotrich will be subject to asset freezes and travel bans with immediate effect. The move is intended to step up the international response to violence against Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank.
15:08And Greta Thunberg, one of the activists who left on the humanitarian ship Madeline for Gaza, returned to Sweden after being deported from Israel. Thunberg arrived in Stockholm on Tuesday night, where she was greeted by at least 30 supporters waving Palestinian flags, as well as a large media presence.
15:31The Swedish activists accused the Swedish activists accused the Israeli regime of kidnapping her and the other crew members, and of committing genocide against the Palestinian population of Gaza.
15:39Thunberg was one of the four crew members that accepted the conditions of deportation. The remaining eight were brought before a court to have the custody orders issued against them reviewed.
15:49We are currently witnessing a genocide and a systematic starvation of over two million people. We must act, we must demand that our government acts, and we must act ourselves when our complicit governments do not step up.
16:09What I am most afraid of is that people are silent during an ongoing genocide.

17:01Welcome back.
17:05The Russian government has confirmed its readiness to hand over the bodies of almost 6,000 Ukrainian servicemen to the Kyiv regime.
17:11Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Minister Maria Zaharova pointed out that Moscow will comply with the agreements established in Istanbul and expects Ukraine to take the same approach.
17:21Furthermore, Zaharova pointed out that the Russian Federation delivered 1,212 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv on June 7 between the Libero-Russian and Ukrainian borders.
17:31However, the Ukrainian regime refused to receive them.
17:39In light of this, the Russian government announced that the Ukrainian regime had finally agreed to accept the bodies of 1,212 Ukrainian soldiers after days of refusal.
17:49Moscow has specified that Russia and Ukraine will begin exchanging seriously wounded prisoners from the front lines on Thursday, June 12.
17:56Finally, I'm home!
17:58Yes!
17:59Thank you, Ukraine!
18:01China publicly released the China Global Ocean Fusion dataset version 1.0 during the
18:21third United Nations Ocean Conference, sharing valuable marine data with the international
18:26community.
18:27During the event, the National Marine Data Information Center of China led a site meeting titled
18:32Approaching an Intelligent and Inspiring Ocean, New Science-Based Actions for Sustainable Futures,
18:38where representatives from China's Ministry of Natural Resources publicly released the
18:43dataset to the international community.
18:45Researcher Yu Ting from the National Marine Data Information Center highlighted the significance
18:50of the newly released data, which integrates over 40 different data sources, including
18:56Chinese independent marine observations.
19:00We released the CGOF 1.0, which encompasses over 40 different data sources from both domestic
19:10and international origins, incorporating China's autonomous marine observations.
19:13The dataset spans a time period of up to 60 years and has a spatial resolution of 10 kilometers.
19:19It integrates advanced AI technology and its accuracy has been improved compared to the quality
19:24of some mainstream foreign data sets.
19:26More extreme weather events are coming from the ocean, more biodiversity collapse, many changes
19:33that are hazards for coastal communities.
19:36And to prepare better, to predict better, we need data, and that data needs to be shared
19:41to be for the benefit for humankind.
19:43And China is a leader in ocean policy and ocean observation.
19:48But we all need to scale up going forward because the ocean is changing fast.
19:53I believe that establishing a unified global database is very important in incorporating temperature
20:01and salinity data from the last 40 years.
20:05The data released by China represents highly valuable information that helps us analyze and understand
20:12relevant changes from both global and local perspectives.
20:15An international training program on AI-powered early warning systems opened on Monday in Shanghai.
20:22A five-day program centering on the application of AI in early warnings for extreme weather events
20:27brings together 22 participants from 21 countries and regions including Jordan, Chad and Mauritius.
20:32Our new technology is very large for this kind of planning.
20:38It's very helpful for our development.
20:41Actually, we feel that this is a good opportunity for our development our early warning system.
20:47I expected after finish this workshop all this country will working together
20:57and make more plans to the how mitigation with the climate change.
21:05Chinese Pavilion at the Osaka Export 2025 presented an exhibition of the intangible cultural heritage of Guishou province.
21:23At the event, visitors were treated to an immersive experience with silver yearly, traditional embroidery, high-quality teas and the famous multi-liquor, all highlighting the region's rich cultural heritage.
21:33The opening ceremony included dances and songs of the meow and don't ethnic minorities,
21:39as well as showcasing handicraft techniques such as batik dyeing and silversmithing, recognized as intangible cultural heritage.
21:47A highlight was the multi-day where a special commemorative photo was presented and generated great interest among visitors.
