A former registrar of a private university in Perlis pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Wednesday (June 11) to 36 counts of forgery of documents to withdraw RM826,481.29 from the university’s funds.

Mohd Fairuz Al-Fatah Badarudin, 40, is accused of forging authorisation letters for fraudulent purposes .

00:00A former registrar of a private university in Perlis pleaded not guilty in the KL Sessions
00:07Court on Wednesday to 36 counts of forging documents to withdraw thousands of ringgit
00:13from the university's funds.
00:15Mohammad Firouz Al-Fatah Badaruddin was accused of forging authorization letters for fraudulent
00:21purposes involving a total of 826,481 ringgit and 29 cents.
00:28The offences were allegedly committed at a bank in Jalan Raja Chulan between June 20,
00:342022 and July 10, 2023.
00:38The 40-year-old was charged under Section 468 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum
00:44jail sentence of seven years and a fine if convicted.
00:49Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fariz Abdul Hamid offered bail at 100,000 ringgit in one surety.
00:57However, Ji Sivajyoti Pillai, a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation representing
01:03the accused, requested a lower bail of 10,000 ringgit on the grounds that her client is currently
01:10employed as a lecturer, earning 2,600 ringgit a month.
01:15She added that the accused also has to support his 10-year-old twins, while his wife is currently
01:21unemployed after an accident left her with a fractured leg.
01:25Judge Susanna Hussain allowed bail of 15,000 ringgit in one surety for all charges with the
01:31additional condition that the accused surrender his passport until the disposal of the case.
