US Marines arrive as rallies against immigration raids continue

The ABC’s Americas Editor John Lyons is in Los Angeles where protests against the Trump administration's immigration enforcement raids are continuing.

00:00I'm in downtown Los Angeles here and it's a pretty chaotic scene.

00:06It's not violent, but it's a tense standoff.

00:10There are a lot of Los Angeles Police Department officers here, LAPD.

00:14You can see lines of them around me, helicopters flying overhead.

00:18And in the building just at the back there, which is the detention centre where some of

00:22those undocumented migrants were taken on Friday, which sparked all of these demonstrations,

00:28national lines of National Guard.

00:30And you can see that there's a lot of LAPD officers here standing in behind them on horseback,

00:37have come in some reinforcements.

00:39There are some protesters have been walking down this street and a lot of them are now

00:44apparently surrounded and trapped inside there.

00:47And reportedly the LAPD are taking the names and phone numbers of those people.

00:54So we don't quite know what the evening will bring here as the afternoon sort of becomes

00:58evening.
