00:08and the privilege to bring out the one and only craig morgan

00:12have a seat take a load off your feet all right how we doing craig i'm good i'm full of chicken

00:22right now i was gonna say uh all the all the girls should be proud of us boys right now because we

00:28just ate a bunch of chicken wings and we have no barbecue stains on our t-shirts right now my wife

00:32would be so proud it's dangerous with that white shirt too yeah i usually yeah i usually have to

00:38change no question that and wine i spill it everywhere yeah i gotta tell you um i'll never

00:45forget and we're gonna go back a little bit to one of the first big songs which is redneck yacht club

00:50everybody knows it right this is this is one of those songs i think we might have talked about

00:55this before but i remember exactly where i was when i first heard that song because i was on a

01:00lake i was on a boat and i'm hearing this song and i'm kind of catching it just you know a little bit

01:05and i'm like wait what he's talking about everything that's happening right now and so i start to turn

01:11it up i turn it up i'm like i looked at my buddies and go are you guys hearing this song right now this

01:15is exactly what's going on and it was just so cool because i'll never forget that song in that moment

01:20is there a song in your life that always brings you back in time that you remember from when you

01:25were younger that that just you're like that's where i knew where i was and that song just hit

01:29me like a ton of bricks sweet home alabama yeah wait was there a bachelor party going on for

01:37what was happening i hate to even say that if you want the truth but that is the truth i just remember

01:42being in uh in kingston springs tennessee uh driving around with a couple buddies and that song came on

01:50and everybody just i mean it was an old song at this point but i just remember that moment feeling

01:55like i was like the king of the road kind of deal coming of age driving you know just starting to

02:01drive and all that kind of stuff yeah is that so fun to hear stories when people come to you like fans

02:06and they tell you like i literally remember exactly where i was for this song listen i was in jamaica

02:13on a dive and and and we go there because there's not a lot of people going to recognize craig morgan

02:20you know just that's what i was thinking so i wasn't going to embarrass my children my two older

02:27children so i wore one of these really super tiny like italian things we're all you were yeah

02:35like where everything was visible it was horrible just to embarrass my children and we're getting

02:43ready to dive so we get our stuff on and the the dive instructor i'm not making this up he says every

02:49day before we get in the water we play our favorite song before we dive this is our favorite dive song

02:54and he starts playing red net yacht yeah i'm like no shit and i said dude that's my song and he goes

03:01yeah man it's everybody's song we're like no but like really no that's that's that's me he goes

03:08yeah man it is me too you know it's funny craig there's actually uh i think the chippendales have

03:14a residency at hard rock so if you ever want to join come on over yeah ain't enough money bro

03:21we'll get you some cuffs and bows i think i've never been so embarrassed in all my life like oh my god

03:26i think i think it's funny how it backfired you're like i'm gonna embarrass my kids you're like

03:29i'm gonna embarrass myself too yeah never do it again you are in pretty good shape though fitness

03:33is a big part of your life it is yeah yeah so what's the workout routine for you right now

03:37minimum two miles a day run what minimum try to get more yeah what's like an average like

03:43uh four is like a good average but i enjoy running so okay i mean you know i'm kind of beat up got

03:50metal in my knees and all this stuff so it sometimes it can be a little frustrating but

03:53but i like it uh i'm i'm into the health thing man i think i try to eat well it's so funny

03:58because now the whole freaking world everybody's like oh this you know processed food like my wife's

04:02been saying that shit for years right don't eat this to eat that you know and we've been kind of

04:07at it for a while so and do you think the fitness regime is part of like being in the military do you

04:12think that's kind of where it came for sure yeah for me no question i mean that's what instilled it

04:17into me that's where it started okay thank you for your service by the way uh let's give it up for

04:22all the service men and women and re-enlisted yeah i know i thought i was gonna get to go shoot

04:28bad guys again but that ain't what i'm getting to do yeah they changed it up on you tell us about

04:32when you come you come back and you're like all right give me a gun give me all this stuff like

04:36yeah and then what do they do what do they say put me in the band they put you in the band like

04:40you're like i'll wait i'm already in a band yeah honestly i'm like you know i am an expert at what

04:46i did i did it for 17 and a half years i know it's been a while and and i'll never forget the

04:51uh general telling me but you're a musician and this is what you do and this is what you should

04:57be and you know what he was right right and i absolutely love it we've had so much fun i get

05:02to do the national anthem for the army all over the country now uh it's just a really cool thing

05:07and it goes hand in hand with i mean you yourself so patriotic just an american hero an american

05:14soundtrack is the new ep so tell us a little bit about the reason you decided to name it that and

05:21what's obviously the theme of it is just all about america uh we named it that because it was a song

05:27on there and it just seemed to make sense i don't really have like this philosophy for making records

05:34i just no i swear some guys do i guess they're smarter than me but i just try to write and sing

05:40and record what i think are great songs that i think that everybody would want to listen to at

05:45some part uh and hopefully they can attach themselves to some part of one of those songs

05:50that i'm recording yeah um and buy it because i'm married and i need to sell a lot of shit you know

05:55because it's expensive what is what on that album is like in the ep is your your most personal song

06:02do you think probably god's problems there's a song it's the only song in there that i wasn't a

06:07writer on interesting um but i absolutely love what it says you know been a believer been a flyer

06:13been a faller turned away when i could stand a little taller maybe i should try to fight a little

06:19harder and not give the devil his way i'll never be perfect but i'm doing the best i can that's way

06:27too high no i love it i'm gonna keep working on on being a better man uh i can't undo the things

06:34i've done they've led me to who i've become i don't want to be just another one of god's problems

06:43that's beautiful oh my god we we didn't have craig morgan performance on the list but we got a little

06:49taste right there so i'm sorry hey you downloaded it's better we got to listen to it i want to talk

06:56a little bit before we run out of time about operation finally home oh yeah can you tell us about

07:01this a great organization everybody can go to operation finally home.org they're an organization

07:06that provides homes for military service members or their families as well as law enforcement uh

07:12officers first responders who have uh had tragedy in their life for whatever reason uh but and there's a

07:18lot of organizations that do this but what they do i think is critical they involve and utilize all

07:25of the local community so the home that they do if they do a home for a service member here in

07:29nashville it's a it's a nashville uh realtor it's a nashville plumber it's a nashville so they they

07:35become an integral part of the community so they bring and they bring the business to to that area

07:41they bring the business to the area and they bring the business in the into the life of the soldier

07:45and vice versa so they become a part of the community as opposed to just giving them a home

07:50yeah i love that and this you're doing everything by the way the music military you wrote a book

07:56as well right yeah i had help but i did write a book can you tell us a little bit about the book

08:02hold on before you tell us did you did you also voice the audio book or did you find i did did you

08:06you did that too yeah it's terrible come on you gotta download it just to listen because you'll laugh i

08:13mean i didn't think i was that country till i heard myself and then you're like oh and then you

08:18start so you're like man we gotta do this again you're used to you're used to hearing your own

08:24singing voice but you're not used to hearing your own speaking i'm not even used to listening to my

08:27own singing voice dude when i finish a project a record i don't even want to listen to it anymore

08:33i i mean it just freaks me out a little bit i'd rather be right because i'm always writing i didn't

08:38get in the business to be a singer i got in the business to be a writer interesting so you know i just

08:42i'm i still think it's weird that there's this many people here right now i'm not even singing

08:46well you sang a little like everyone was hoping i did i know but i'm saying i never expected to

08:51be here i'll be honest even all these years later this isn't what i was had ever i never dreamed this

08:57big well god's got a great plan for you it's working out so well we're thankful for you to

09:01spend some of your time here with us at cma fest give it up nashville for the one and only
