Un petit goût de Classique Flandrienne en plein mois de juin. Course d'un jour belge créée en 2018 et tracée autour de la ville d'Anvers, l'Antwerp Port Epic / Sels Trophy célébrait sa 8e édition ce lundi 9 juin sur un parcours comme toujours atypique, avec 182,2 km totalement plats mêlant des secteurs pavés (24 km) et gravel (34 km), pour un total de 58 bornes non asphaltées ! L'épreuve remportée par Mathieu van der poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) en 2021 a offert un scénario forcément assez débridé et chaotique, la course étant même brièvement neutralisée à 90 km du but après que le peloton se soit trompé de route, induit en erreur par un motard ! La sélection s'est ensuite naturellement faite par l'arrière au fil des secteurs et des incidents ou chutes, à l'image de celle qui a contraint à l'abandon Arnaud De Lie (Lotto). Et à l'issue d'un final intense et à suspense, c'est le Belge Timo Kielich qui s'est imposé pour quelques centimètres au sprint devant Rasmus Bøgh Wallin (Uno-X Mobility) après un superbe numéro du duo pour résister de justesse au retour d'un peloton réduit !
