00:00The last time there was a big snow in town in Orange was in 2021, so it's not too common for
00:07Orange to get snow in the CBD itself. Orange is at about 863 metres, so it's pretty low down to
00:14get a fall just like this, so close to the start of winter. Mount Canobolus nearby that's just
00:20under 1,400 metres does often get snow, and people often go around the closed road anyway with some
00:26knee-high snow and throw some snowballs at each other, but the conditions here down much lower
00:31are pretty wild today. I do feel a little bit like I'm going to blow away. The snow forecast for this
00:37long weekend has actually brought quite a few people up from Sydney and the surrounding regions
00:41to try and see some of the white stuff, and a lot of people also come for the wineries, which is a
00:47big draw card here. They love to get into the cellar doors, get up close to the fireplace so it's nice
00:53and toasty, and actually the snow is not a bad thing for vineyards at the moment. There's no
00:58grapes on there, the harvest has already been and gone, so they're in a bit of a dormant phase, so
01:02really they're just looking good. But the snow is actually just as exciting for locals as it is for
01:07people who come to visit. We actually spoke to some siblings who live right next door to one of the
01:12wineries here, and they came out with a kneeboard that's usually used on a dam and some hockey sticks
01:18to try and do some snow skiing here. And he actually told us, the younger brother, that he was so
01:25excited by the snow that he came out in his pyjama shorts. I was just too excited to put any long pants on,
01:32so I just came out in my pyjama shorts actually. There's some other areas on the central tablelands
01:37that have also seen some snow. Oberon has seen quite a bit of dusting overnight and a bit further south from
01:43there in places like Shooters Hill and Black Springs. Also, some high areas between Bathurst and Lithgow
01:48have also seen some snow and some icy road conditions. So this sort of snow around Orange
01:53isn't expected to hang around sadly, but the Bureau of Meteorology has said there could be a slight
01:59chance for some more snow on Wednesday.
