A second round of snow heading for the Northeast this weekend

After a cross-country storm moves out of the Northeast on Saturday, another storm will quickly follow it with snow for New England on Sunday.

00:00But heading farther north is a different story.

00:01Here we have a little stripe of snow,

00:03and that's continuing to accumulate.

00:05You can see some of the deeper blues here

00:07in this corridor from around Fort Drum and Watertown,

00:11right across the central part of New Hampshire and Vermont,

00:14kind of nosing toward the area of Portland, Maine, soon.

00:18But the back edge of this is going

00:20to bring a slightly colder area.

00:21And so the rain-snow line pushing south.

00:23Buffalo, you had rain.

00:24Back over to snow now.

00:26Detroit, you're seeing that transition now,

00:28and moving into northern parts of Wayne and Monroe County

00:31now, we're going to see that transition, too.

00:33So overall, we're ending with a little bit of snow

00:35in some areas, but this has predominantly

00:38been a rain event for much of the region.

00:40Looking at current temps, we are back down to 29 in Burlington,

00:44so a little colder there.

00:45But yesterday, we were in the teens at this hour.

00:47We were in the low 70s a little bit ago in Virginia Beach.

00:50Still 68 degrees there.

00:51So here's your footprint of snow tonight.

00:53We're wrapping this up by early tomorrow morning

00:55with 1 to 3 inches in southern Maine,

00:573 to 6 inches into the green, the White Mountains,

01:00and coastal down east Maine as well.

01:02Saturday is going to be a pretty chilly day,

01:04but a brighter, drier one for most of us

01:06as the precipitation exits off to the east.

01:09There could be a little bit of leftover snow flurry action

01:11into coastal New England in the morning.

01:13Sunday, though, look at this.

01:14Here comes a new storm system.

01:15This one crosses the northern part of the region with snow.

01:19And if you're not in that area, if you're near,

01:21say, interstate 80 or south, it's

01:23just going to be a dry day on Sunday.

01:26So Sunday, there's the footprint of the snow.

01:28Through midday, Buffalo to Rochester to Watertown.

01:31Areas to the south, nothing too wild going on.

01:35Again, we'll have that Newark forecast in a moment.

01:38But the snow with the second storm

01:40will cruise through northern Minnesota, Wisconsin,

01:42and Michigan Saturday.

01:43And then through Sunday, 1 to 3 inches

01:45of snow for more of upstate New York, with 3 to 6 inches

01:48into the Adirondacks, the Green and White Mountains.

01:50And we'll close with a quick glance at that Newark forecast

01:53as the snow falls up into Rochester, Newark, New Jersey.

01:56Not bad.

01:573 degrees cooler than the historical average

01:59for February 2nd.

02:00Groundhog Day, mostly cloudy there.

02:02And we'll have to see what some of Phil's competition

02:06happens to see.

02:07There's a Staten Island creature.

02:09You know, there's some other popular alternatives

02:13It's you describing it as a Staten Island creature.

02:15I can't remember what kind of animal it is.

02:17Maybe it's a groundhog.

02:18I don't remember.

02:19I think it is.

02:20But creature is such a word.

02:23So there's a lot of different types

02:24of animals that we'll predict.

02:26And we, of course, will give you the forecast based

02:30on science and all of that.
