Joy Woods recalls working with Audra McDonald in the Broadway show 'Gypsy' while chatting with THR at the Tony Awards red carpet. Plus, she describes having a "real family" when it comes to her Broadway cast mates and production.

00:02It's so surreal.

00:04Everybody here is dressed in the nines.

00:07It's all of my, all of the legends, my personal icons.

00:12And it's raining out.

00:15What a combo. I feel great.

00:17Talk to me about working with the incomparable Audra McDonald

00:21and bringing this production to life.

00:23She's the best. She really is the best.

00:25And she's such a mom and real life and on stage.

00:28And Danny is, as well as a father, and Jordan as a sister,

00:32I feel like we legitimately have a real family in the building.

00:35And with the rest of the company, she is so wonderful to work with,

00:38and I'm learning so much. I feel so lucky.

00:41Well, it takes so much.

00:43I was just so wowed by your performance in it as well.

00:46And seeing you from the first half to the second half,

00:48it's such an intense show and character to take on and do eight shows a week.

00:53Do you have a pre-show or post-show ritual to kind of re-center you before each show?

00:59Um, pre-show, no, because I started dressed as Abraham Lincoln.

01:03So I think just whatever I show up as is okay.

01:07And I think after the show, I'm still learning what can get me back down to the ground.

01:15I know Audra says that she feels the same way.

01:17She's so wired after.

01:19You can't fall asleep until around 2 a.m.

01:21I'm still figuring it out.

01:23I don't want to get dependent on melatonin, but it's working right now.

01:26Now, outside of your own production,

01:28what is one show that you are currently obsessed with this season on Broadway?

01:33We could see poop.
