00:00Early Sunday, President Donald Trump took to social media to applaud the National Guard,
00:04claiming they had successfully stepped in to manage recent protests in Los Angeles over
00:09immigration enforcement. He stated that after two days of unrest and clashes, the Guard had
00:15restored order, suggesting local authorities couldn't manage the situation alone.
00:20But just minutes later, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass posted a direct response on another platform,
00:26clarifying that no National Guard troops had actually been deployed in the city.
00:31She emphasized that local law enforcement, including the LAPD, had handled the situation
00:36and deserved credit. CNN reported it found no signs of National Guard activity on the ground.
00:42A statement from U.S. Northern Command also said no units had yet been identified or deployed in
00:48California, contradicting the president's announcement. Mayor Bass thanked the LAPD and
00:53other local responders for keeping the city safe and gave appreciation to Governor Gavin
00:59Newsom for his ongoing support.
