00:00You want me to chop the fruit for you?
00:05No thanks, Shada. As you know, I'm not into fruits.
00:09How about another cup of tea?
00:11Thank you, honey.
00:13Actually, I came here for some serious talk.
00:16Oh good, what's up?
00:18Should I start directly or do we need some warm-up?
00:22Just straightforward. Go ahead, please.
00:25I'm here to ask Shiva to marry my brother, Majid.
00:33What are you saying?
00:35You want me to marry your brother?
00:38He just asked me to do this.
00:40I'm not the one who decides for him.
00:43But I think he had a wife, didn't he?
00:46No, he never had one.
00:48How about a fiancé or something?
00:51He didn't have a fiancé either.
00:54Are you sure? How come I thought he had one?
00:57It seems like you've been wrong, Shiva. Please stop it.
01:01This is a surprise proposal, isn't it?
01:05Actually, I was waiting for your uncle to tell you.
01:09But Majid kept calling me, so I decided to finally raise it with you.
01:14But why me?
01:16Only Majid knows the answer to that.
01:19Are you sure he hasn't mistaken me with Shida?
01:22He said the athlete.
01:25But I have no plans for marriage.
01:31That's what all girls say, but they finally give in.
01:35Uh, well, no.
01:38It looks like I didn't make myself quite clear.
01:41I'm not going to marry Majid.
01:43Oh, no. Why not?
01:46Maybe you're in love with someone else?
01:48I'm not in love with anyone.
01:50At least for now.
01:52You have time to reply to his proposal.
01:55Think about it for a few days.
01:57Then Majid will call to talk to you in person.
01:59He doesn't have to.
02:01I'm not going to leave my life in Iran and have a jobless life in England.
02:07Excuse me, what is it that you do?
02:09I'm a life saver.
02:11Working in a pool.
02:12Don't you know that?
02:14Do you honestly call that a job?
02:18If it weren't for your inheritance, you could hardly make ends meet with that low salary.
02:24I'm still enjoying my father's wealth.
02:26Just don't lose the opportunity, honey.
02:30Majid is rich enough.
02:32He owns an entertainment complex.
02:35And you know what?
02:36You could work there.
02:37I'm sure you'd be happy.
02:39I think I gave a clear reply to the proposal.
02:43But I didn't hear any reply.
02:45I don't like Majid, and I'm not going to live in England.
02:49Don't you know that lucky proposals aren't always there for you?
02:53Thanks very much for the lucky proposal.
02:56But I'm not going to marry him.
02:59You're right, Mehri.
03:01It's too early for a reply.
03:03Please give her a few days so that she could consult uncle, and then she'll make a decision.
03:08I wish she was as nice as you are.
03:10You're the decent and sociable one.
03:14Majid should have chosen you, not her.
03:17Thanks for the compliment.
03:23When do you want to buy stuff for your home?
03:26We've already done that.
03:28Oh God, you mean it's going to look this empty?
03:32But it's not empty, see?
03:34Oh, you mean I'm blind if this place is full of furniture?
03:37Actually, it looks empty because you're comparing it to your own place, but I think it's nice enough.
03:42If a stranger visits this place, he might think you're penniless.
03:46No one would think people who live in a 250 square meter apartment on the 14th floor are penniless.
03:52You're so stubborn.
03:53You know it's old fashioned to fill up the entire place.
03:56Nowadays, in modern interior design, you just furnish the big empty places.
04:01Well, now, whatever it is, as far as my eyes can see, this place is empty.
04:07Alright, we'll think about it.
04:09Perhaps we haven't given it enough time.
04:11I'm leaving. The cab is waiting downstairs.
04:14God, it's been waiting since you came in?
04:16That's the man's job, honey. He's getting paid to wait for me.
04:20Take this, please.
04:50Did she get upset?
05:00I don't care.
05:01Seriously, just wait and see. She's going to retaliate by making up stories behind her backs.
05:05Everyone knows what type of a talkative person she is.
05:08How about if you say yes to Majeed's proposal?
05:11Can you even imagine that?
05:14Majeed is a decent boy.
05:16You just said boy. That's a good one.
05:19Shut up. Maybe he's had hair implants already.
05:22It's not about the hair. It's about the head, which I think is brainless.
05:27You don't deserve him.
05:33Well, if he's so nice, why don't you marry him?
05:36Because I'm not the athlete. He's in love with you, the athlete.
05:40What the hell? He's way older than me.
05:43You know what? I hate it when Iranian boys go abroad, do all the stuff there,
05:48and when they get bored around 40, they want to marry a girl back home to cook them Iranian food and everything.
05:54Try to find another excuse to reject him. That's something you might not be able to accuse Majeed of.
05:59Well, I'm not good at law and mathematics, but I'll still try and prove it, my dear Shida.
06:05You know, when it comes to marriage, older men can make their wives happier.
06:09See? You have a lot in common with him.
06:11For God's sake, you never take things seriously.
06:14This type of marriage, when you marry the groom's photo, when he's abroad, I don't think that's serious.
06:20But if I were you, I wouldn't reject him.
06:23You mean you would go to England and leave me alone here?
06:26That's something that might happen, sooner or later, my dear sister.
06:29We both need to go our ways.
06:32We're two different people with two different choices, and we shouldn't block each other's way.
06:37You're not serious, are you?
06:40I'm absolutely serious.
06:42You'll be making a big mistake if you're rejecting him, simply because of me.
06:48Well, in this case, it's because of me.
06:51When did you see Majeed last?
06:55I was seven years old, with a red ribbon in my hair.
07:00You weren't an athlete back then, were you?
07:03Stop making fun of me! No, I wasn't.
07:06But back then, he was the same bald guy.
07:09Being bald isn't a flaw, it's just a sign of aging and maturity.
07:14It's a misery for a young girl to marry someone much older than her.
07:17A misery?
07:19A misery. A woman like that is a pathetic loser.
07:23It's painful. You know I hate that type of man, the ones who narrate their past memories with a sense of heroism and their wives just nod in confirmation.
07:31Listen, there's no parking space there. Be quick and get in the car when I get there.
07:34Okay.
07:35Now the next destination, sir?
07:39Home.
07:40No, I don't think so. You've got two more classes.
07:43The English class and then the music class. Got that?
07:47I'm not taking the music one.
07:49Why not?
07:51Because I haven't practiced it.
07:54So, lazy boy.
07:56I really hate the violin. The sound bothers me.
08:01What instrument do you like then?
08:04Nay, flute, horn, all the instruments that you blow in.
08:09Then why don't you choose one of them?
08:12Because Dad only likes the violin.
08:15I see.
08:16What's your favourite instrument?
08:21People who live in poverty have no music choices.
08:27Just name one.
08:29How about the harmonica then?
08:33I like it too, because you can blow on it.
08:39Excuse me?
08:40Yeah?
08:41Please take me home after the English class.
08:44Hm. I can't do that.
08:46Why not?
08:47Because your dad will get mad at me.
08:51I'm not gonna tell him.
08:53You shouldn't lie to him.
08:56Not now.
08:57I'll tell him the truth later.
08:59I'm sorry, no.
09:02But what if it's an order?
09:05Still no.
09:06Because I'm working for your father, not for you, boy.
09:10Oh, yeah?
09:11Dad told me that I shouldn't be so friendly with drivers.
09:18Your dad is right.
09:24You're welcome.
09:25Bye.
09:53Attention all prisoners, attention all prisoners.
10:19There's five minutes remaining of your time.
10:22Five minutes remaining.
10:42Did you manage to talk to your lawyer?
10:45Mother has refused to be me in private.
10:47She says if I have anything to say, I should say it on the execution day.
10:53That's still great, man. She's left you a chance.
10:57But I'm not going to do that, man.
11:02What do you mean?
11:06I'm exhausted. I'll just let it finish.
11:09What was the secret which could change the mother's mind?
11:15I didn't just want to change her mind.
11:18I just wanted to let her know the truth.
11:20But she's refusing to hear it.
11:23You can't force people into hearing the truth.
11:26I'll leave the whole thing. I don't care anymore.
11:28What don't you care about? Your life or the truth?
11:34The truth is important.
11:36And I love my life.
11:40But nothing's going to change this.
11:43Talk to her, even in public.
11:46This could be a last-minute saviour.
11:47I'm thinking that maybe me staying alive might just be a pain for others.
11:55Listen, Ali.
11:59Don't run away from it.
12:02Look at me.
12:05Just face it.
12:06My wife Mary has been like a mother for you.
12:24She is the one who took care of you after your parents died.
12:29She's the one who sacrificed a lot for you.
12:32If you don't want to marry Majid,
12:33then that's your choice.
12:37Although it's the wrong decision.
12:39But say the no with respect.
12:42You know I can't tolerate it
12:44when somebody offends my dear wife, all right?
12:47Excuse me?
12:48What could I have told her that would have made her upset?
12:51You should have thrown the ball into my court.
12:53Then I would have given her the no
12:55in a way that would not have annoyed her.
12:58You should have acted like Shada,
13:00who treated her with respect.
13:01You shouldn't get mad, Uncle.
13:03Well, Shiva is always frank.
13:06And Mary knows her very well.
13:07There's a very fine boundary
13:09between frankness and aggressiveness.
13:11And Shiva's crossed the boundary.
13:14Listen, you need to make up with her now.
13:16Go get some flowers
13:17and go to my place to calm her down.
13:20As you know,
13:20she's one of the very few people in your life.
13:24Go and apologise to her.
13:26Please don't give me that look, Uncle.
13:28I didn't do anything wrong,
13:29so I'm not going to apologise.
13:30I'm not marrying Majid because I don't like him.
13:33Because he's money crazy
13:34and he has nothing but some wealth.
13:36No understanding,
13:37no knowledge,
13:38no sense of respect.
13:39He doesn't even have that much wealth.
13:41He just owns a computer game net,
13:42which Mary calls an entertainment complex.
13:45I hate that type of man, Uncle,
13:46and I know what he wants.
13:48What's he trying to get?
13:49My share in my father's property
13:50so that he could make
13:51the so-called entertainment complex
13:53out of the game net.
13:54What the hell are you talking about?
14:02This is not fair.
14:03It's very disrespectful.
14:05She's right, Uncle.
14:06You know Mary gave me a call
14:08and said to me in private
14:10that Majid had a change of heart
14:12and is going to propose to me
14:14instead of Shiva.
14:15She said that I'll have the chance
14:17to continue my education in England.
14:19It's going to be a whole new life.
14:20What do you think, Uncle?
14:22Ridiculous, isn't it?
14:24Are you sure that's what she said?
14:27Yes, Uncle.
14:29Maybe you are too negative.
14:31What do you mean?
14:32How can you see this as positive?
14:35Perhaps he just wants to marry a girl
14:38from a respectable family.
14:39Anyway, Uncle,
14:40please don't get upset by Shiva's behavior.
14:43If you want, I can still meet Mehri
14:44and apologize for what's happened.
14:47But I'll only be doing it for your sake.
14:50Let's be fair.
14:51Majid is treating us like objects.
