00:00Once ministers wake up to this, they'll deal with it, because it's come from officials.
00:04But what I worry about is, is that how Home Office officials think about us people concerned about immigration?
00:11Is that how they view us, that we could all be terrorists? It's totally ridiculous.
00:15It is concerning, and I think you're right, Chris.
00:18I think once this gets across the desk of the Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper,
00:23I imagine we'll see some sort of clarification going into next week.
00:28And I'm sure, I'm sure, Kemi Baden-Ock, the Conservative leader, will be raising this.
00:32Nigel Farage, no doubt, will as well.
00:34So the wind will, the pendulum will come back the other way.
00:39But you raise a valid point.
00:41Is this how we are, you know, or many members of the British public are seen who have concerns about immigration?
00:47I mean, I certainly hope, don't you, that our politicians, Kemi Baden-Ock, as you said, Yvette Cooper, I don't know,
00:54are going to be outspoken about this.
00:56Will they have the courage to be outspoken about this?
00:58I'd have thought so.
00:59I think it clearly offends against freedom of speech, all the things we are, but they profess to talk about.
01:06It's freedom of thought as well, because it says belief that mass immigration is a problem.
01:11It qualifies you as being...
01:13It creates a boil, it creates resentment, and it's important that when, you know, dealing with this issue, that, you know,
01:20the government is seen to be fair and reasonable and just applies some...
01:26It seems to me that there's some kind of a virtue-signaling, bock-ticking in the Home Office.
01:30But if you're trying to...
01:32And people who were trying to keep us safe to prevent are good people trying to stop the bad guys, this doesn't help them.
01:38And make no mistake about it.
01:41You know, having a concern about immigration is one thing, but there is far-right extremism as well.
01:46There is far-right terrorism as well, just as there is Islamist terrorism and other forms of terrorism.
01:50It's an ideology-driven.
01:52And it's really important that our security services are under constant financial pressure, and when they get it wrong, we all see the effects.
01:59So they have a clear run to get to those cases that really matter, because it's a fiendishly difficult job.
02:04I can understand if you work in Prevent.
02:06You are dealing all the time with people who are seriously problematic and who have horrible views and who may want to cause hurt in some cases.
02:17And maybe they just get overwhelmed by that.
02:20They see so much of it.
02:21And their objectivity falls, doesn't it?
02:25But to call love of your country and a belief that we have a cultural, well, a culture that we want to preserve, to call it cultural nationalism, is terribly Orwellian, isn't it?
02:38They're making up words that make us sound as though we're all terrorists.
02:42Well, anyway.
02:44The Home Office has said this.
02:46Now, Prevent is not about restricting debate or free speech, but about protecting those susceptible to radicalisation.
02:53I suspect that that statement may develop through the day.
