Willenhall Carnival has taken place and its a big one with a music stage, main arena, fairground and lots going on. We went along to find out more.

00:00So we're here at Willanore Memorial Park, Wayne Palmer, hello.

00:04So Wayne, it's Willanore Carnival Day, you're Colin the man behind us, aren't you?
00:08It is, yeah, it's taken seven months of planning.
00:11Hard time for the weather, it's been a bit up and down today.
00:14But we've had over 100 stores turn up, we've had 135 bucks in, plus all the attractions.
00:20We've got a bandstand, we've got a main arena, we've got three attractions ourselves.
00:24But yeah, it's really pleasing, the sun's just peeking through at the moment.
00:27And we've had around about 1,000 people through the gates, which is less on normal years,
00:31but weather predicted, it's had to turn people down.
00:34But yeah, really pleased.
00:35Yeah, it's good, isn't it?
00:36Because like you say, we've had rain early on in the day,
00:39and that's when people look out the windows and tend to change the plans.
00:42But actually, I've seen loads of families having a great time here today.
00:45Yeah, we was in the park at 5 o'clock this morning, it was hammering down.
00:49And the weather's stopped and there's a bit of rain.
00:51And just as we are when it's 11 o'clock with the mayor, it's absolutely pulled down.
00:55But yeah, I agree.
00:56The numbers that have turned out for today, even with the rain, has made it, for me, a success.
01:03And it's a lesson, guys.
01:04If you look out your window, and it's carnival day, and there's a bit of rain,
01:07don't rule it out, because we're standing here now, and there's blue skies in the background.

01:15Is that the end of the carnival queen for good?
01:17No, definitely not.
01:19We've tried last year, and unfortunately, it's one of those dying traditions, I think,
01:23across all carnivals, but we never give up in Willinghall.
01:26So it's been big and better next year.
01:28And hopefully, we'll have the carnival queen back in, and the royalties to be able to support
01:31carnival, and the activities we do, and the fundraising through the year.
