00:00Next up, let's talk a bit about highlighting inside the CleanStep.
00:05Highlighting is a quick way to trace your fields back through your flow steps,
00:09see related values across fields, and pinpoint identical values in your data.
00:15Looking at our CleanStep, there's a few different spaces where you can apply highlighting.
00:20First, you can trace fields back within your flow by selecting a field.
00:25Once you select the field, the parts of the flow where the field came through will light up.
00:31All other parts of the flow will become opaque temporarily while you have the field selected.
00:37This is a great tip for QA, troubleshooting, or inquiry to where fields came from.
00:43In addition to tracing fields, you can also view related values using highlighting.
00:49You can highlight related values by selecting a value or a bin within the profile pane.
00:55The related values will be highlighted in blue across all of your fields.
01:00So in this example, we've selected the 600 to 625 score for math,
01:05and all of the other values that are related are highlighted in blue.
01:10That means that if we look at the school name, we can see that two-thirds of the records for Wellesley schools
01:16have that value of 600 to 625 for their math scores.
01:22You can also see other blue values scattered throughout.
01:25Finally, you can identify identical values within your dataset by using highlighting.
01:31This is most pronounced in the data grid.
01:33If you go down to the data grid and select a specific value,
01:37the data grid will highlight that identical value within that column.
01:41This is a great method to perform a quick QA check or just to look for some matching records.
01:47Now that we've talked about highlighting high level,
01:49let's jump into Tableau Prep and see how we can highlight values within our flow.
01:54Alright, so we're back in Tableau Prep and we're going to select the clean step for the SAT performance part of the flow.
02:02Let's click on the clean step and let our data load.
02:06Let's first try and trace a field back.
02:08Let's just click on School Name and see what happens to our flow pane.
02:12All of our other steps have grayed out,
02:14and only the steps that are related to the School Name field in this part of the flow will light up.
02:21You can see that our flow right now isn't too complicated, so it's easy to trace that back.
02:26But once we start joining, unioning, and branching off in different directions,
02:31it can be difficult to tell where the field came from.
02:34By using this highlighting method for tracing our fields,
02:38we can easily find where our field came from and what happened to it along the way.
02:43Next, let's go over to our Math SAT score and choose 525 to 550.
02:49By highlighting this score, we can easily see the other related values in our other field panes.
02:55This is a quick and easy way to identify those related values.
03:00Alright, so now let's go and check out identical value highlighting.
03:04Let's pull up our data grid a bit and try and find a value with an exact match.
03:10Now what we can do is go down to our Math section.
03:13Let's find 533 and there we go.
03:16There's another identical 533 and we can see that there's a match between Belcher Town and our Boston O'Brients Math School.
03:26We can also do this for our file paths or any other field within this view.
03:31Next up, we'll be doing a deeper dive on filtering methods inside the clean step.
