00:00Alright, let's begin by talking about the data connection types found inside Tableau Prep.

00:05Tableau Prep Builder enables users to connect to many data sources and platforms,

00:10including flap files, servers, and published data sources.

00:16Now these can be anything ranging from Excel files, CSV files, access databases,

00:21to SQL servers, Salesforce, Hadoop, Snowflake, and even published data sources

00:27like Tableau Server and Tableau Online.

00:30This allows for almost limitless possibilities for ingesting data from various data sources inside Tableau Prep.

00:37In particular, the published data source options opens up a lot of different possibilities

00:42that weren't available prior to the development of Tableau Prep.

00:45For example, if you don't have local credentials to a database,

00:49but you do have access to a published Tableau data source,

00:53you can use that published Tableau data source as an input to your flow.

00:58Now with tools like Tableau Desktop, you can obviously connect to data sources that are published

01:02and build dashboards off of them.

01:04But never before have you been able to connect to a Tableau data source

01:08that's published on a server or on Tableau Online and use that as an input,

01:12the start of your data preparation flow.

01:15This opens up a whole range of possibilities, especially for those sources that you would normally dump

01:20to a flat file before modifying, or simply those that you don't have access directly to the database.
