00:00Demolition of the O2 ABC on Suckyhall Street has been halted for the time being as it's
00:04no longer considered dangerous. The former music venue has been derelict since the second
00:09Glasgow School of Art fire in July 2018 and has been dormant since initial demolition
00:14works were completed at the end of 2024. Glaswegians have complained about the state of the site
00:20and its negative impact on the aesthetic of the street, calling it an eyesore, saying
00:26there's brick and steel jutting out everywhere. Glasgow City Council has confirmed the future
00:30of the site is currently being considered and the building is no longer considered dangerous.
00:35Plans have been submitted by the Vita Group who own the site for a mixed student accommodation
00:40and hospitality hub, though locals generally aren't happy, calling the plans detrimental
00:45and concerned they will wipe out views of historic buildings. They believe the new plans will
00:50limit access to culture in the area. Realised plans depicting a lifelike model of the potential
00:56new building are being shared across social media as one local used information from the
01:02proposal to show what it would look like. Heritage organisations have also criticised the plans,
01:08saying they'll overshadow everything on the street. They argued that the current proposal
01:13is substantially larger in height and therefore volume than the proposal that was rejected eight
01:18years ago. By the council, on grounds it was too big.
01:21So this is what the former O2 ABC has looked like since the end of last year. It's essentially
01:27just a big pile of rubble. I mean, nothing's spilling out over to the pavement, but it is just
01:33jaggedy bits of steel and brick. So what do you think? What do you think it should become?
