00:00Artificial intelligence, a term first coined in 1955, has reshaped almost every industry.
00:07How are businesses keeping up with AI advancements?
00:10We're diving into the multifaceted world of machine learning and its applications.
00:18Welcome to The Exchange from our studio here in Doha.
00:22Coming up on this episode, I speak to Tanuja Ranjuri from Amazon Web Services
00:26for a pulse check on how fast AI is being adopted in Europe.
00:31And we hear from Greg Fallon, CEO of Geminis AI,
00:34on how generative AI can solve complex challenges in large-scale industries.
00:41In health, education and the environment,
00:44artificial intelligence is solving real-world problems faster and more accurately than humans.
00:49By 2030, AI will turbocharge the global economy,
00:53contributing a remarkable $15.7 trillion.
00:57With 45% of economic gains stemming from AI-driven product enhancements,
01:03we're set to witness an explosion of variety, personalization and affordability,
01:09all tailored to meet consumer demand like never before.
01:13And with AI powering 40% of corporate decisions,
01:17the ethical development and regulation of this technology is critical.
01:20With machine learning and generative AI in the mix,
01:24experts anticipate that one day, AI may be able to think, reason and possess cognitive capabilities
01:31that could surpass human beings.
01:34And that's why UNESCO also advises developing and using AI to improve human well-being,
01:41protect our fundamental freedoms and sustain our planet.
01:44While businesses recognise the enormous economic potential of AI,
01:49they still face challenges in adopting and adapting to this transformative technology.
01:55I spoke with Tanuja Rannery, the Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Amazon Web Services.
02:01She shared how the firm is overcoming those hurdles through investments.
02:06We have been investing in Europe for some time in cloud and AI infrastructure so that our customers can use our technology.
02:19We have very recently announced, you know, an investment of almost 16 billion euros into Germany,
02:26almost the same again in Spain.
02:28We've announced 8 billion euros of investment, further investment into the UK market as well, France, Italy.
02:35So it is that combination of both infrastructure, providing the choice of solutions,
02:42and then making sure that the cloud infrastructure is available to them on which they can actually build their businesses.
02:49Here in Qatar, the government is committed to investing in artificial intelligence,
02:56recently announcing $2.5 billion in incentives for businesses.
03:00With AI expected to add $11 billion to the country's economy by 2030,
03:06our reporter Mohamed El-Lashi highlights how global tech giants are fostering the country's tech-driven future.
03:13That's right, Laila. Qatar is making strides when it comes to the latest technologies.
03:19And you know, Mohamed, the country is harnessing the power of AI to diversify its economic growth.
03:26And at the heart of this vision is a strategic partnership with Microsoft.
03:29The computing powerhouse is collaborating on state-of-the-art AI solutions to drive creativity, productivity and prosperity.
03:38Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization to achieve more.
03:44And this is 100% and fully aligned with Qatar's vision towards a sustainable, diverse economic growth
03:50and sustainable living and high-class living for its people.
03:54Bringing Azure Open AI to Qatar is a major, major milestone in towards the AI economy.
04:01We're making sure every organization utilize AI, every person is utilizing co-pilot to improve productivity.
04:10Skilling, reskilling people for the future of AI is very critical for any country.
04:16Qatar's AI roadmap aims to capitalize on public and private partnerships to advance health care, energy and finance
04:24with places like Qatar Science and Technology Park serving as a base for international technology companies.
04:30AI, of course, is like a key element of what we do here.
04:34And we support that by supporting young and aspiring startups and trying to position Qatar as a hub of technology and innovation.
04:42We start by working with younger generation to put this mindset of utilizing different technologies, AI,
04:50to solve problems that they encounter in a day-to-day basis.
04:54Qatar is committed to innovation and connectivity, as evidenced by entities like Microsoft and QSTP having a base here.
05:05It's not just tech giants. Many startups are building their businesses around AI.
05:10In fact, an FDI intelligence report found that half of last year's global venture capitalist funding went to AI-focused firms.
05:20One such company is Gemini's AI, which provides complex, high-precision AI solutions for large-scale industries.
05:28I spoke with CEO Greg Fallon, who shared insights on AI's impact in high-risk and intricate environments.
05:35Precision is important, right? Imagine that you're making a decision about how to operate a multibillion-dollar oil refinery.
05:45If you get it wrong, you could harm the refinery, or worse, you could hurt people.
05:48We're showing industrial companies that they can increase production 5%, 10%.
05:53They can reduce their costs 40%.
05:54And so those are massive changes that AI has unlocked.
05:59I think the potential impact on humanity is massive.
06:02I would say there's an inherent conflict of interest between governments and those regulations.
06:07Ultimately, until we see governments globally kind of come together on a common set of regulations,
06:13I think that we will be in an era where AI may be unequally deployed and deployed in ways that could be nefarious.
06:20Now it's time for our regular feature, Business in 60 Seconds.
06:26Start the clock.
06:27Barnes & Noble is gearing up to announce its Q4 2025 financial results as it continues its remarkable turnaround.
06:35It plans to open at least 60 new stores this year.
06:38The largest bookseller in the US is focused on creating an engaging in-store experience,
06:44capitalizing on the rise of book content due to the book talk phenomenon.
06:48Oracle is gearing up to announce its full-year 2025 earnings release.
06:54The tech giant recently committed $5 billion to expand its cloud and AI footprints in the UK.
07:01The investment follows a similar $8 billion move in Japan last year to meet surging global demand.
07:08And Chinese automaker Geely is set to release its Q1 2025 financial results
07:12as it positions itself at the forefront of the autonomous driving market.
07:17With the launch of its advanced G-Pilot driver assistance system,
07:21the company aims to enhance its competitive edge against rivals like Tesla and BYD.
07:28So artificial intelligence is a reality we all must get used to in a safe way,
07:34whether it's through regulations, education or awareness.
07:39The key is to make AI work with us in a complementary way without over-relying on the technology.
07:45Well, that's all the time we have for on this edition of the show.
07:49Thanks for watching.
