At today's House DOGE Committee hearing, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) read Elon Musk's tweet against the Big Beautiful Bill aloud.

00:00In closing, I want to thank our witnesses once again for their testimony today.

00:06I now yield to ranking member Stansberry for closing remarks.

00:11All right. Thank you, Madam Chairwoman.

00:13I want to start by saying this is not normal.

00:17I say this a lot, but today is certainly no exception

00:21because while we were sitting here, while we were sitting here,

00:26Mr. Elon Musk began tweeting again.

00:29He says, call your senator, call your congressman.

00:31Bankrupting America is not okay.

00:34Kill the bill in all caps.

00:37Nothing is normal right now.

00:39Attacking federal agencies and dismantling vital services,

00:44firing thousands of federal workers and shattering their lives,

00:49stealing your private data illegally and downloading it

00:53and using it on AI systems,

00:55letting children starve on the other side of the world

01:00while gutting vital public health programs,

01:04zeroing out funding for public media,

01:08none of these things are normal.

01:10And certainly attacking community organizations and vital nonprofits

01:15that serve the public good is not normal.

01:19But in addition to that, it's also not legal.

01:23And that is why there are over 200 federal court cases

01:27currently in front of the federal court right now,

01:31including dozens of injunctions and restraining orders

01:34against the Trump administration for their lawless and illegal activities.

01:39Because not only is it not normal, it is not legal.

01:43For months, the Trump administration has been threatening

01:46that they will undermine the nonprofit status of nonprofits that they don't like.

01:52It's very clear that they've been searching for some sort of legal argument

01:55that will give them a path forward, and they have yet to find it.

02:00Because it is not legal.

02:03The law is very clear.

02:05It is not legal.

02:06They cannot go after your IRS status.

02:10They cannot go after your nonprofit status.

02:13It is not legal.

02:16So, if you are a nonprofit in America and you are listening to this hearing

02:20and you are feeling frightened, scared, you've received a letter,

02:24you've received a threat, or you have been contacted by DOGE

02:28or any federal official to audit or enter your nonprofit organization,

02:33know your rights.

02:35Contact a lawyer.

02:37Make sure you understand what your rights are

02:40and what you can do to protect your organization.

02:44Now, I understand that my friends across the aisle want to talk about corruption,

02:48waste, fraud, and abuse.

02:49I mean, this is the DOGE subcommittee.

02:51But it is so bizarre to see the high level of gaslighting

02:55that happens every moment in this Congress.

02:58They want to talk about corruption and nonprofit organizations

03:02that do voter registration and help fight the climate crisis

03:07and help starving children.

03:09But they won't even acknowledge that Elon Musk,

03:13who just left the administration, gave himself billions of dollars

03:18in private contracts while serving in the federal government.

03:22That he himself changed out the communications infrastructure

03:26for multiple agencies, set himself on a path to get billions of dollars

03:30in private DOD contracts.

03:32And, yes, he did download your data.

03:35And we will hold him accountable because no one is above the law,

03:42including the president.

03:43So if we want to talk about corruption, why don't we talk

03:47about a president who launches a meme coin and takes hundreds

03:52of millions of dollars in payments from foreign governments laundered

03:56through his family business?

03:58How about we talk about a president who solicited a foreign government

04:03for a $400 million plane that he wants to keep privately

04:09through his presidential library afterwards?

04:11How about we talk about a president that wants to sell pardons for meme coins?

04:19You guys want to talk about corruption?

04:22Or we can talk about dark money and its influence on politics.

04:26Now, I understand that some of the witnesses felt a little exposed here today

04:30by having facts presented about what their organizations are,

04:35who funds them, and what they do.

04:38But the facts remain.

04:39The facts remain.

04:42Project 2025, which is a 900-page document drafted by the Heritage Foundation

04:48and over 100 organizations, including those represented here today,

04:52is the blueprint for Donald Trump's America.

04:55It is being executed by more than 70 administration officials,

05:00including the director of the Office of Management and Budget,

05:03who is now executing DOGE, and is being utilized to attack anyone

05:09that they disagree with politically or culturally.

05:13That is what this is all about.

05:15That is what this hearing is about.

05:17And we want all of you out there who are listening to know this is not normal,

05:21it is not legal, and we will fight it every step of the way.
