00:00Hey, friends! Have you ever wondered how baking cookies could turn you into a math superstar?
00:06Well, grab your aprons, because today, I'm showing you how every step in baking is like a secret maths mission.
00:14Let's start with measuring our ingredients.
00:17I've got my recipe, but it says I need three quarters of a cup of sugar.
00:21What's that mean?
00:23Well, three quarters is just three out of four parts.
00:25So, if I fill my quarter cup three times, I've got the right amount.
00:30Fractions to the rescue.
00:32Next up, let's talk about multiplying or dividing recipes.
00:36Say you want to make double the cookies. Yum!
00:39If the recipe calls for two eggs, double that, and you'll need four.
00:44If I only want half the cookies, I cut everything in half.
00:47Half of two cups of flour? That's one cup!
00:50Now you're doing multiplication and division, and you didn't even open your maths book.
00:55Now let's set the oven.
00:56My recipe says to bake the cookies at 180 degrees Celsius for 12 minutes.
01:02So I set my timer and watch the clock.
01:05Counting down the minutes is practicing subtraction.
01:0812, 11, 10, until it dings.
01:11But wait, what if your recipe uses grams or milliliters instead?
01:16That's where units of measurement come in.
01:18Some countries use ounces, some use grams.
01:21Learning to read both helps you understand different ways to measure the same thing.
01:25Cool, right?
01:27Oh, here's a fun challenge.
01:29If I roll out my cookie dough and use a cutter to make round cookies,
01:32how many do you think I'll get from one batch?
01:35Estimating is a great way to use maths and make sure you've got enough cookies for everyone.
01:40And finally, let's not forget counting your cookies once they're baked.
01:44If you made 24 cookies and want to share them with 6 friends, how many does each friend get?
01:50That's division in action.
01:53Each friend gets 4 yummy cookies.
01:55So every time you're baking, you're actually doing maths.
01:59Measuring, dividing, counting, estimating, and even reading the clock.
02:04Who knew maths could be this tasty?
02:06Now it's your turn.
02:07Try baking cookies at home and see how many maths problems you can solve in the kitchen.
