South Sudan celebrates International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers kicked off in South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State on Monday, aimed at raising awareness of the need to de-escalate tensions and promote peace in the country.

00:00The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers kicked off in South Sudan's Western Equatoria State on Monday,
00:07opening with a friendly football match between peacekeepers and local women.
00:11They were there to raise awareness of the need for peace.
00:15We have seen the presence of peacekeepers over 10 years.
00:21We worked together.
00:22We fought together to ensure that a lot of peace come to Tambora.
00:33Thank you for our peacekeepers that you managed to protect our civilians.
00:41We will stand with you to work for peace.
00:45Since South Sudan gained independence in 2011,
00:48Western Equatoria has been hard hit by years of military confrontations and intercommunal conflict.
00:55Had a lot of efforts together and collaboration in Tambora or Greater Tambora,
01:02in the eastern counties of the state.
01:05And even here in Yanvio, we express our commitment to continue this partnership and collaboration
01:12to ensure that we have sustainable peace in the state.
01:16The peacekeepers are part of the UN mission in South Sudan,
01:20an initiative aimed at preventing the country from relapsing into civil war.
01:25As the sacrifice those our brothers, lovely brothers, have laid down their life for the sake of peace,
01:31ask yourself, am I in peace in my home?
01:35We are members of parliament, as a leader.
01:37We are representing our community.
01:40If the peace started with me, that means my home will be peaceful, my community and the state.
01:49The event also honoured the peacekeepers who have lost their lives while serving in South Sudan.
01:55We are all in the south of auctions behind the food at West Hanover School.
