00:00Matt, this pub The O'Connell has been here since 1865. I used to come here when I was at uni, probably a little bit less salubrious than today.
00:07A little bit less, yep.
00:08But that's the great thing about Bathurst is you can explore these little villages around town.
00:13Look, and that's so true. And the pub scene in these back roads is getting better and better.
00:19The Johnston family have bought a few pubs around the area and of course with my one up the road too.
00:24The food's getting better and when you come to a pub all you want is a really cold beer and really good pub grub.
00:30A great burger, good chips and these are bloody good chips by the way too.
00:33Very good chips.
00:34This one looks fantastic.
00:35Yeah, I've snuck a few chips.
00:36You can see the history here on the walls. What to you makes a good pub, a classic country pub?
00:42Country pub, it's all about the locals. You've always got to support the locals but the locals become part of the attraction also.
00:48So many people I know come to country pubs and they go,
00:51Oh my god I went here with the O'Connell, with the Taranau, with the Rockley.
00:54And the locals kind of make that atmosphere and that feel of a country pub.
00:58And the great thing is we're about 20 minutes outside of the Bathurst CBD at the moment and you can knock them all off in a day.
01:04You can tick them all off in a day I should say and explore the whole region which is so nice.
01:08I love a pub crawl but it doesn't mean that you have to drink in every one of them.
01:12But you can drive around and you can have a little bit of a burger in one or a sample of something and a couple of beers and then go home and it's fantastic.
01:19And check out the Grains Distillery at the same time, Reckless Brewing and make a day of it.
01:23Which one are you going to have?
01:25Let's go halves, I'm going to cut them in half.
01:27Share and share.
01:28This is a really graceful bit.
01:31That's good.
01:32It's got all the main ingredients to make a good burger.
