00:00Just looking at our stories, our main stories today, and this idea of airlines putting up prices during school terms.
00:09Well, there's a reason it's called school term, and that is all those little kids should be at school, not elsewhere.
00:17Now, I know a lot of people find that difficult to comprehend because they're thinking, well, that doesn't suit me and it's cheaper to go then and whatever it is.
00:23But I, in my whole life, my parents would never have said, take two weeks off school or take a week off school.
00:31So I find this very, very hard to, it just shouldn't be part of the equation.
00:37You're at school, you're not on holiday.
00:39Well, lots of parents would say, wouldn't they, they can't afford to take their children in Amsterdam because the flights have tripled.
00:44Totally agree, but we couldn't afford it.
00:46So what did we do?
00:47We went to the local beaches in Ireland.
00:50That's how we went.
00:51So that's how you had your holiday.
00:52People go a foreign holiday.
00:53Hold on, so the prices, but the prices are going up, they'd make them more expensive during the summer holidays.
00:59And the hot term.
01:00So they take them out of school, so you get parents that will take them out of school during school term because the prices are so expensive during summer holidays, which makes it unfair.
01:08We're not stupid, we understand that, but the law says you have to be at school.
01:14Right, I agree with that, but don't you think it's disgusting that the price is so much more expensive and that's the reason people are considering it.
01:20It's not really relevant is what I'm saying because the rules say you're not available for these holidays, so you're at school.
01:27Right.
01:28But the companies shouldn't be doing that, should they?
01:32Look.
01:32I don't think they should.
01:33I agree.
01:35The only rule that comes first is that a school term.
01:39School term means that's what the law requires you to do, be at school, not be on a beach in Ibiza.
01:47But the temptation is there if it's so much cheaper and you couldn't afford to go during the summer holidays.
01:53I've never done that, but if it's so much cheaper, then you can see what the temptation is for parents to think, you know what, we couldn't afford to do that, so maybe we'll do it because it's so much cheaper.
02:03Surely it should be the same price.
02:05I understand the temptation, but what's right and what's wrong?
02:08Did you take holidays out of the school calendar?
02:12I did not.
02:13Well, there you are.
02:14What are we having this debate for then?
02:15Well, it's not, it's just a friendly chat, I thought, but now it's getting nasty.
02:19She didn't.
02:20She, the cat's mother.
02:22No, I didn't, but most of my parents' teachers, there's no way we'd be having any time off school.
02:27But I think a lot has changed since COVID.
02:28I think parents have realised that you can learn outside of the classroom because obviously the children are all homeschooled, aren't they?
02:34Yes, everybody knows better, but there you are.
02:36Now they're thinking, well, maybe we'll take them on a holiday and they can learn abroad.
02:39That's us having the debate.
