Is there some info involving Stefon Diggs and the possibility of him being let go by Patriots? Curtis: "unhappy with the events of last week"
Transcript
00:00And I feel really poor right now sitting here after Jerry.
00:03But so over the weekend, got some info about the Patriots.
00:07A couple of things of note regarding Steph Diggs.
00:11The big man as an RKK, very unhappy with the events of last week.
00:17Okay.
00:17Went to the top of the organization.
00:20The wide receiver room is the rudderless room of the organization.
00:23Part of the agreement with Rabel and the Patriots and Steph Diggs
00:27before signing him to the roughly $70 million deal
00:31was that he would be rehabbing here
00:33and a presence with the young receivers in the offseason.
00:38That was what most irked Rabel last week.
00:42Which was you had Baker and others playing like idiots.
00:46And the best player on the field, the guy that would command the room,
00:50would have the respect in the ears and the eyes of the young guys,
00:54didn't have Steph Diggs to look toward.
00:57So the organization, I believe, this is just now my guess,
01:02they were trying to leverage the player before they could cut him.
01:07But another nugget, this is from Mike Reese, not related to what I just said.
01:11If he doesn't pass a physical when he's done his offseason rehab,
01:16the $12.5 million is back.
01:18Like that hasn't been set in stone.
01:19That hasn't been paid yet.
01:20But the roster bonus and the signing bonus only are paid when he passes the physical.
01:26So they still can get out from under this.
01:29It's not going to be a release.
01:30It would just be that he didn't get healthy enough.
01:32He failed his physical.
01:33He failed his physical.
01:34And they can say goodbye.
01:35But I do understand the organization's perspective.
01:38I think they handled this right in that if they had released him Friday,
01:42the fan base would have revolted.
01:44It's so clear that they need him given the performance of the receivers.
01:49I know it's just OTAs, but it's a consistent play that is mediocre that's been the case
01:55with the receivers for four years now.
01:56But were they wrong for looking at him as anything other than a talent on the football field?
02:05Like if you're looking at Steph, and you'd have to tell me because you probably know more about this than I do,
02:12having played in the league.
02:13But if you're looking to him to be a leader or a role model for these young wide receivers,
02:22like he's not the kind of guy that you would expect would be that, is he?
02:26I mean, I don't, like, know him personally.
02:30There's never really been anything crazy off the field.
02:32Just from what we know in the locker room, he kind of is selfish and wants the football.
02:37But every receiver and offensive player wants that.
02:39I think they probably looked towards him and said, all right, you've been in the league a long time.
02:44You've had success.
02:45And so that would be a good way for some of these young guys.
02:49You could be there to kind of, you know, give them some advice or mentor them in that way.
02:54But it's advice on catching the football.
02:58It's advice on running routes.
