Pope Leo greets participants of Giro d'Italia during Vatican ride

Pope Leo XIV welcomed on Sunday, June 1, the participants of the Giro d'Italia to Vatican City, where the final stage of the 108th edition symbolically began.

“You are role models for young people all over the world,” the pontiff told the cyclists in a speech delivered partly in Italian and partly in English, before imparting them the blessing.

Accompanied by Sister Raffaella Petrini, the president of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, Leo then applauded the departure of the 159 participating riders.
