00:00Out of the red corner, wearing white trunks with pink and blue trim, joining us from his home of Millville, New Jersey.
00:08He weighed in at 166.6 pounds, with a record of 39 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw.
00:15He has 18 wins coming by way of knockout tonight, making his Las Vegas debut.
00:21Please welcome the world-ranked super middleweight contender, introducing Thomas Cornflake LaManna.
00:34His opponent on my left, fighting out of the blue corner, wearing silver trunks with blue trim, fighting out of his home of Houston, Texas.
00:45He weighed in at 164.4 pounds. He is undefeated in his tremendous career, with a record of 33 wins, no losses, and 22 wins coming by way of knockout.
00:59Tonight, making his anticipated return to the ring, please welcome the undefeated, former two-division champion of the world, introducing Jermall, Hitman Charlo.
01:19Once again, our referee in charge, now to give instructions, Mark Nelson.
01:29Chief seconds.
01:49All right, Jamal and Thomas, you received my instructions earlier, so you know what I expect a clean professional about.
01:57Obey my commands and protect yourself at all times.
02:00Punches, Jamal, punches, punches right here are not considered low.
02:06Punches right here are not considered low. Touch them up. Good luck.
02:10LaManna's goal, written across the t-shirt he wore into the ring.
02:14He wants to shock the world.
02:16A prohibitive underdog, but that's why they fight.
02:19Indeed, and this is a kid who's been a boxing lifer, comes from a boxing family, his father, a manager, a promoter.
02:27We know Cornflake himself is a regional promoter, but this is the biggest fight of his career.
02:33Let's see what the kid can do.
02:34Charlo reuniting with his first amateur trainer, Hyland Williams Sr., who also led him in the early stages of his career, no longer working with Ronnie Shields.
02:44Also has former two-division champ, one of his favorite fighters, Juwan Guzman, helping out in the corner.
02:49And we are underway, round one, scheduled for 10 at 168 pounds after another long layoff.
02:57What kind of questions need to be answered early for Jamal Charlo, B.C.?
03:01Well, definitely when we're talking about ring rust, which is in some ways unavoidable, you've got to be timed.
03:07And the timing of that jab has to be a big thing.
03:09The footwork, just the comfort level.
03:11He showed that a couple of years back in 2023 against Jose Benavides Jr., that he quickly adjusted to that.
03:17And Abner has jabbed more than a setup.
03:20It is a weapon.
03:21In fact, he dropped Cornelius Bundridge with a jab when he became a 154-pound champion.
03:27And then in one of his better title defenses, he dropped Julian Williams with a jab.
03:31So a very powerful weapon and really one of the best sticks in the sport.
03:36And right on cue, right there, Charlo Lanning, a stiff jab to Lamana's face.
03:41And yes, that's the key for him.
03:43That's the opener for everything.
03:45The lead jab and the combinations behind that.
03:48And when Charlo is at his best as well, B.C.'s, when he has that chip on his shoulder,
03:52when he brings venom to his punches, when he's mean!
03:56Look, it's the rare, not just fighter, but athlete of professional sports
04:00who can almost perform better when they're angry, when they have something to prove.
04:03That's what Jamal Charlo has, this fight.
04:06And let's say something for Cornflake Lamana.
04:08He's pressed Charlo's buttons at times in the build-up.
04:11He's been passive-aggressive.
04:12He's been sort of using the layoff against Charlo.
04:15All that doesn't matter, though, when they touch gloves.
04:17And here we are.
04:18But Charlo's got to make sure that he reminds everybody that with the unbeaten record,
04:22he's still the hitman.
04:23Yeah, Lamana doing totally the opposite of what I thought he was going to do in this first round,
04:30which is pressure Charlo, make him feel uncomfortable.
04:34He's letting Charlo get off with that jab.
04:37And Charlo never in a rush.
04:39He's a patient predator.
04:41Has a high IQ, can adjust to whatever his opponent gives him.
04:45And you see the effect of that jab already.
04:48Look at the redness around the forehead and nose of Lamana.
04:52Yeah, Lamana's got to be careful what comes behind that jab,
04:54that stiff right hand, powerful right hand also from Charlo.
04:57Yes, style defined by precision, patience, and punishing intent.
05:02A sharpshooting boxer puncher doesn't waste motion.
05:05Everything is measured.
05:07Everything matters.
05:08And as we mentioned, he applies pressure without chasing,
05:11using footwork and a high guard defense to stay safe while breaking opponents down.
05:17And you know, he was once criticized for his low output,
05:19but we did see it against Montiel and against Jose Benavides Jr.,
05:24where there's definitely been an uptick in the offensive department in terms of punches thrown.
05:30To try to find his rhythm, his timing, shed whatever ring rust there might be.
05:36And for Lamana's corner, they don't want him standing in front of Charlo.
05:40Use the jab and move.
05:43And there's the double jab from Charlo.
05:45And we talk about offense.
05:48Well, in that first round, Charlo was 10 of 31.
05:51Lamana, 2 of 24.
05:52Neither landed a power punch.
05:54So, very much a cautious start.
05:57That was a nice jab right there, right?
05:59Lamana, he's jabbing with Charlo.
06:00And you want to continue to do that if you're Lamana.
06:03That's his best skill.
06:04Working that jab, being active, using footwork to turn you,
06:08but also being smart on the inside.
06:10He should hold against Charlo, in my opinion.
06:12Try to frustrate him.
06:13Frustrate him, man.
06:14Try to really just get under his skin like he did in the buildup to this fight at times.
06:18Yeah, you got to make it an ugly fight at times, if you're Lamana.
06:21You got to make Charlo feel uncomfortable, definitely.
06:24And doubt himself.
06:25Again, he's coming back after a year and a half.
06:27We talk about Charlo going last three fights without a knockout.
06:31Of course, now moving up to 168 pounds.
06:34The power coming with him.
06:36And we'll have to wait and see because he's 33-0 with 22 knockouts.
06:41Really, the most comprehensive, the greatest performance of his career
06:44was against Sergei Durvyanchenko, the three-time title challenger.
06:47And one of the most complete performances of Jamal Charlo's career.
06:52And while Lamana on the run, trying to avoid the punishing jab of Charlo,
06:59and Charlo sticks it right in his face.
07:02And that jab has created some swelling around the left eye of Lamana,
07:05something to monitor.
07:06And he needs to stay off the ropes.
07:08Yeah, and as a fighter, once you start feeling yourself,
07:10once you start seeing that your punches are landing, that's it.
07:14It's over.
07:14And that's what's happening right now.
07:16Charlo is feeling that his punches are landing.
07:19He's not missing at all.
07:20Charlo told us one mistake by Lamana, and it will be lights out.
07:24Just over a minute left here in the second.
07:28Ooh.
07:29Great right hand counterpunch right there by Charlo.
07:31And I talked about Charlo becoming a busier fighter.
07:38Not the case so far here in the early stages.
07:43And Charlo told us about the reunion with his old original trainer,
07:47Arlo Hilliard Sr.
07:48It was about the mentality, the comfortability, the way that they talk to each other.
07:52He did still say the legendary trainer, Ronnie Shields, they're still on great terms.
07:56They can reunite at any time.
07:58But let's see what this new chapter brings with an old face in the corner there for Jamal Charlo.
08:02He said he wanted to go back to his roots, and then the roots of his professional career was as a pretty decent knockout artist.
08:08So, and, you know, according to the odds in every one you ask, I mean, Thomas Lamana,
08:14tailor-made for a guy like Charlo to record a knockout win.
08:19Despite Lamana's momentum and the nine-fight win streak,
08:22nowhere near the level of opposition that Charlo presents here tonight.
08:30Lamana's trainer, Reggie Lloyd, telling his fighter, Charlo's too slow.
08:35You're letting him have success.
08:37Again, wait to see.
08:40Yeah, I don't know about him being slow.
08:42I mean, he was able to counter with the right hand, Charlo.
08:45Oh, here's an aggressive start by Lamana.
08:51Resets and eats the jab from Charlo.
08:54See that looping right hand by Lamana.
08:57Those are the risks you got to take.
08:58You got to go out there and throw bombs if you're Lamana.
09:01This is a big opportunity for you.
09:02And the ultra-patient stocker, Charlo.
09:12Also a great counter puncher.
09:13A back punchline for Lamana.
09:15It's not that Charlo has a sizzle style, but the jab setting up the big right hand,
09:22it is hard to deal with when you figure in his timing, his explosiveness.
09:25He's starting to show a little bit of that old hitman here, the way he's setting that up.
09:29Oh, there's a great hand that lands.
09:36And there's a veteran, Lamana trying to win it.
09:39And instead he's dropped for the fifth time in his career.
09:43Five, six, seven, eight.
09:47Walk over to him.
09:48Ready to go?
09:49Ramana goes down for the fifth time in his career here in round three.
09:57Ramana is caught into the left eye from that punch that knocked him down.
10:02The timing's back.
10:03The power's back from Charlo.
10:07Ooh.
10:08And it's not that Charlo doesn't throw enough.
10:17He throws just enough and the right punches.
10:22Well, he doesn't waste punches.
10:23And he's not being made to pay for that because of the impact of these big shots on Lamana.
10:32Under a minute now left to end the third.
10:36Lamana finds himself cornered.
10:38The jab in the right hand.
10:39Dumped caught up by Charlo.
10:41Lamana trying to stand his ground.
10:45Showing some bravado under fire.
10:48Less shouting, more throwing if you're Lamana.
10:51Also, be careful what you're asking for from the hitman.
10:55There's a jab.
10:56The counter jab by Charlo.
10:58Lamana is trying to fight back after going down.
11:02He's not gun shy.
11:03He isn't running away now.
11:04Resetting, utilizing lateral movement.
11:08And that's exactly how you cut off the ring.
11:11You're not just chasing him.
11:12Charlo's cutting off the ring.
11:14Putting you behind the ropes.
11:16And Lamana is just in survival mode right now.
11:19Good to see, after everything he's been through outside of the ring, to come back like this inside of it.
11:37Beginning of round four, scheduled for 10 at 168 pounds.
11:49Lamana's face definitely showing the receipts of taking the power of Charlo, but he hasn't quit on himself.
11:55Still in there trying to plant seeds behind that jab and work back into the fight.
11:59I think he's got a pressure.
12:03He's got to push Charlo back.
12:05Not just going backwards.
12:07And he's giving Charlo the momentum, letting him get off first.
12:12Charlo's stocking.
12:13Lamana just misses with the left hook.
12:16That was a skip job that lands for Charlo.
12:22No job.
12:29If you're Lamana, you want to time that jab.
12:32I know it's easier to set than done, but if they feel like he's too slow, they time the jab.
12:38Counter punch on top of it.
12:39Charlo wanting to set that trap and land that counter right.
12:46There's the...
12:47Ooh, that was a good counter from Lamana.
12:51Lamana, Lamana, and he's right, and now that's blocked by Charlo.
13:01Abner, how important at this point of Jermal's career do you think it is to get rounds tonight?
13:06Really important.
13:07He talked about it in interviews.
13:09He said, I want some rounds.
13:10And it seems like he's taking his time.
13:12There's no rushing, Charlo.
13:14He knows he's landing every single shot.
13:16And yet the pressure is on him to make a statement with an emphatic victory.
13:21Right, Abner?
13:22Yes, there is also.
13:24But again, it's barely the fourth round.
13:26You already got a knockdown.
13:27You've hurt Lamana many times.
13:29So right now, it's just a matter of when, to be honest.
13:37Under a minute left here in round four.
13:47Deco, what Abner said earlier about the twin brothers, the Charlo twins reuniting.
13:52They've always been each other's biggest fans in a lot of ways.
13:55But they can be rivals.
13:57They can push each other's buttons.
13:59It's heartwarming to see the love rekindle between them, knowing that they're both on the comeback trail.
14:04Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
14:06Lamana Butler did not go down.
14:10But was hurt by that shot from Charlo.
14:1315 seconds left here in the fourth frame.
14:17The left hand, not just as a jab, as a hook.
14:20Hurts Lamana.
14:21Second knockdown of the fight, and the sixth time that Thomas Lamana's been down in his career.
14:40Yeah, I was so focused on the glove touching the canvas that I missed that his knee touched the canvas.
14:46So, yeah, official knockdown.
14:48Could have used the expediency on that replay situation earlier this year in the Big Tank Davis-Lamont-Roach matchup.
14:57And look at that jab.
14:58It started with one, two jabs.
15:00Now you're double, triple, dribbling the jab.
15:03Talking about Charlo.
15:07So, Lamana's been down in round three due to an overhand right by Charlo, and then went down in round four due to the left.
15:18Look at that pressure from Charlo.
15:23He's right in front of you.
15:26Not a lot of punches, though.
15:28But just the right points and the power.
15:31That little check left hand wobbled Lamana.
15:34And so far, Charlo has landed twice as many jabs as Lamana has landed punches.
15:44And the jab.
15:45Lamana's down for the third time.
15:48No three-knockdown roll in effect, but he's frustrated.
15:53And he's showing the vestiges of this.
15:55Punishing it by Charlo.
15:57Now the question is, did Charlo get enough rounds now to fill himself and get Lamana out?
16:07Charlo has dropped Lamana in rounds three, four, and now five.
16:15This isn't just about the comeback of Jamal Charlo.
16:18We know there could be big business in the near future with the likes of the main eventer and Caleb Blatt.
16:24So far, though, Big Charlo seems to be back and seems to be handling his business.
16:31It doesn't seem like he wants to get him out of this round, Charlo waiting.
16:35Ramana's having fun in there, but it is kind of hard to talk when you're this far behind.
16:54It's frustrating, though, for Lamana.
16:58Not being able to do anything, really, in this fight.
17:00It's for Lamana Charlo.
17:02You get the feeling that one more knockdown might be enough for the referee to step in here.
17:09Absolutely.
17:12Lamana purely trying to stay on his feet at this stage.
17:17Body shot from Charlo to Lamana.
17:20Using his feet to try to avoid the attack.
17:23He needs to get off the ropes.
17:25Lateral movement.
17:26The ever-patient Charlo continues to just measure Lamana.
17:33Right hand by Lamana brings out a smile from Charlo.
17:36The champion, though, back to Lamana.
17:44Time before Jamal Charlo closes the show and his return here in Las Vegas to a new weight class.
17:51And they are taking a look at their medical term.
17:54It's Lamana.
17:55That's a heck of a shirt on the ringside.
17:57Doctor, where's Joe Goosin?
17:59Listen.
18:00Doctor recommendation.
18:02We're stopping the finish.
18:03Oh!
18:03Oh!
18:05Oh!
18:10Get the fuck out of here.
18:12Oh!
18:14Charlo dropping Lamana three times.
18:17And here at the start of round six, the fight has been stopped.
18:24Charlo returns.
18:26Improves to 34-0 with his 23rd knockout win.
18:31Listen, even though I don't agree on the stoppage, it was just a matter of time, really.
18:37It was.
18:37Charlo landing.
18:39Jabs, right hands, power shots.
18:42Ladies and gentlemen, we have the time of one second of round number six.
18:46A referee in charge, Mark Nelson stops the contest upon advice of the ringside physician.
18:53He is the winner by way of technical knockout and still undefeated, Jamal Hitman Charlo!
