MACC seizes luxury properties in highway funds probe

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seized six luxury residences and a plot of land owned by a “Tan Sri” in its investigation into the misappropriation of sukuk funds for highway construction in the Klang Valley.  A source stated that the seizure resulted from a raid by the MACC's investigation division involving properties valued at approximately RM12mil. 00:00The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, or MACC, seized six luxury residences and

00:08a plot of land owned by Atan Sri in its investigation into the misappropriation of Sukuk funds for

00:15highway construction in the Klang Valley.

00:18A source stated that the seizure resulted from a raid by the MACC's investigation division

00:23involving properties valued at approximately 12 million ringgit.

00:28During the raid, the MACC also discovered a thoroughbred horse worth hundreds of thousands

00:33of ringgit, believed to have been purchased using Sukuk funds.

00:37MACC has summoned the individual involved, along with his wife, for questioning, but only

00:42the woman appeared, as her husband reportedly has health issues.

00:47MACC is also expected to call between 30 to 50 witnesses to assist in the investigation.

00:53The Commission is continuing efforts to trace the assets owned by Atan Sri and his wife

00:58both within and outside the country.

01:01It was reported that MACC seized various assets worth approximately 32 million ringgit belonging

01:08to the same individual.

01:10These included branded handbags, jewelry, luxury vehicles, watches, and cash.

01:17Following the operation, the MACC also found a storeroom in one of the residences used to

01:23store various luxury liquors estimated to be worth 3 million ringgit, believed to be linked

01:28to money laundering activities.

01:30All items and assets have been seized for further investigation under the MACC Act 2009 and the

01:37Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act or AMLA 2001.
