A project manager of a leading construction company, who was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged corruption involving a data centre construction project tender, was reportedly willing to burn nearly RM1mil in cash to destroy evidence.

According to sources, the suspect attempted to destroy the cash out of panic and shock following a raid conducted by the MACC.

00:18Sources say the suspect acted out of panic and desperation, grabbing bundles of 100 ringgit
00:24notes and attempting to burn them in the bathroom, just as MACC officers arrived at his residence
00:30in Petaling Jaya on Thursday.
00:33When officers forced their way into the home, they were met with thick smoke and found the
00:37charred remains of the cash, believed to total close to 1 million ringgit.
00:42A full search of the property uncovered 7.5 million ringgit in cash hidden in pillow boxes,
00:49along with three luxury watches as well as rings, gold coins, and other valuable jewellery.
00:55All items were seized for further investigation.
00:58MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Kusayiri Yahya confirmed the incident, adding
01:06that destroying evidence is a serious offence under Section 201 of the Penal Code.
01:13However, he stated that the main investigation falls under Section 16 and 17A of the MACC Act 2009,
01:22which deal with bribery and corporate liability for corruption.
