00:13I'm happy to be here today, despite my demeanor.

00:18Ricky asked if I would say a few words.

00:21I've known him for many years.

00:24And I said, of course.

00:25But then he called me back and he said,

00:27would you mind terribly if I wrote your remarks?

00:35And I said, no, it's your call.

00:38It's your day.

00:42So, this is what he wrote.

00:50I'm a friend.

00:51I'm doing what he told me to do.

00:52Genius is an exceedingly rare commodity.

01:04Aristotle, Newton, Einstein, Madam Curie.

01:10These are names that echo through history,

01:14casting a brilliant light for all to see.

01:16That very light is shining upon us here today in Hollywood.

01:23Fuck, geez.

01:28The air is charged with a certain energy

01:30that can only be felt once in a lifetime,

01:33is what he wrote.

01:35We are the fortunate few who get to bathe in its glory.

01:38And while we never know what exhilaration

01:46that Ricky must feel every day,

01:48let us be grateful that we're here at all.

01:52This is the day that we tell our grandchildren,
