00:00I had the opportunity to meet Randy Rhodes when I was a kid, when I was 18.
00:04And about a week later, my buddy calls me back and he goes,
00:07Randy's playing again. He's in town again.
00:09But when I walked in a week later, he goes,
00:10Hey, Doug, how you doing, man?
00:12I was just like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:13I mean, I was just a kid and he remembered my name.
00:17I was just out of my mind with that.
00:20Rock, metal, frog, and everything in between.
00:23Welcome to this episode of Talkin' Rock with Meltdown.
00:27Don't forget to follow the audio-only Talkin' Rock podcast on all podcast platforms.
00:32And now it's time for today's conversation.
00:35Here's Meltdown.
00:36Doug, good to see you, man. How's things with you?
00:39I'm doing good, Meltdown. Thank you, brother.
00:41You have guitar, will travel. You're like my friend John Five.
00:44Do you ever put that thing down?
00:46There's always some practicing that needs to happen.
00:50It's like keeping the old digits moving.
00:52That's right. Always some noodling.
00:53So last time we talked was before your cancer scare and stuff.
00:58How are you doing, man?
01:00I'm doing good.
01:01It was, I mean, I was actually, it was pretty brutal while I was going through it.
01:06And people just would be like, it's just a bump in the road, bro.
01:10You're going to be back to normal, you know, in no time.
01:12And when I was going through it, I was like, oh my God, this is not a bump in the road.
01:16This is like, this is really not good.
01:19But now it feels like that.
01:21It feels like it was just a bump in the road.
01:23So I would encourage people not, I would encourage people to always be positive with whatever you got going on health-wise.
01:30Just try to, you know, look after yourself and get stuff diagnosed as fast as you can, whatever it might be.
01:38Even if it's a tooth problem, you know, you don't want that to turn into, you know, the longer you wait, the more problems you have.
01:45So, but I'm doing great.
01:46My wife really helped me so much with scheduling because, you know, you go through some surgery and radiation, all this stuff.
01:54And there's like pills and potions and gargling for days and this.
01:59And I was like, I could, it was a full-time job, man, keeping, you know, keeping all that stuff on track.
02:05Yeah.
02:05So she, she helped me and I was, you know, I was home.
02:09So it was good.
02:10That's great, man.
02:11I mean, we've only talked once or twice before, but I can just tell you're a good dude.
02:15And when I heard that, I was like, I was really praying and pulling for you.
02:18And I'm glad to see you're out on the other side and now getting back out on the road and getting back with the boys.
02:23Thank you, man.
02:24I really appreciate it because, you know, that those prayers from you definitely helped all the people.
02:33It really made a huge difference, not just to, you know, sending that out into the world to, you know, to the heavens,
02:39but also just making me feel good that people were sending good, good wishes.
02:43It really helped a lot.
02:44Yeah.
02:45Besides your wife, who else did you lean on?
02:47Anybody else?
02:50Not, not really.
02:51You know, I just, she and I just kind of hunkered down and she helped me with all that stuff.
02:56And, you know, I didn't want to affect family.
03:02I didn't want to affect too many people.
03:03I didn't really, I didn't tell my parents the full story of what was going on.
03:07And I didn't, um, didn't really want to get into having people.
03:11I didn't want people to worry too much, you know, um, about, you know, I, there was stuff online that I put online.
03:18So because people were wondering what's going on, I just felt like I better put it out there in full disclosure, just so I don't have to worry about, you know, what story I told or whatever.
03:32But like, my parents don't go online.
03:34So I didn't know.
03:37So I was, my mom was like, what's going on?
03:39I got a few little issues and we're taking care of the doctor, you know, blah, blah, blah.
03:43Meanwhile, I'm getting like full on, you know, neck surgery and radiation.
03:47And it was, uh, it was, you know, just good to have, keep it, keep it low key in the house, getting great wishes, well wishes from everybody and, and just, uh, taking it day by day.
04:01And now it's like, there's always, you know, there's always a few little remnants of stuff that, that you still got to deal with.
04:08But every single day is like a little bit better every day.
04:12So next month I'll be, you know, that much better.
04:15That's great.
04:16And you guys, uh, when do you start your tour?
04:18You're going over to Europe, correct?
04:20Yeah, we're leaving, um, in about a week and a half.
04:24And, um, it's, uh, mostly like Germany, Poland, Netherlands, stuff like that.
04:31There's a few, um, and Belgium.
04:33There's a few festivals we're doing like grass pop in Belgium and, um, um, um, based on the dates, but people could definitely go to deaddaisies.com and, and see what we got coming up.
04:44And, uh, and, uh, you know, obviously we have a new record out today, so there's that.
04:48Yeah, new record.
04:49Yeah.
04:49Let's talk about that.
04:50Let's get right into it.
04:51Uh, looking for trouble.
04:52You guys put out like this, uh, short little documentary as well, uh, talking about it.
04:56And, uh, I don't know if you've seen the movie Sinners.
04:58Have you seen that movie yet?
05:00No.
05:00Okay.
05:01So Sinners kind of takes place back in the 1920s and that, and it has that same vibe and it's, it's, it, it's kind of loosely based on this blues player.
05:11And it's a, it's a horror movie at the end of the day, but there was a lot of stuff that was like, it's, it's kind of two movies put together.
05:19It's like, almost like this documentary of the 1920s and the music and stuff, but then it becomes from dusk till dawn.
05:25It anyways, but that's kind of what it reminded me of a little bit.
05:28And that documentary that you guys shot, uh, you go through every single song.
05:32You talk about the legends that perform these songs.
05:34Uh, where did this idea come from for you guys to cover all these, these blues legend songs?
05:39Um, I mean, I think originally John had an idea that, that we'd start to bang around on some stuff and, and, uh, John was like, yeah, this could be, this could be really cool.
05:50Um, and when we were in Muscle Shoals, they, that studio is called Fame Recorders, Fame Studios.
05:58And every day they would do a tour and they would talk about all the people that recorded there and got to start their career, their, and to Wilson Pickett, to Etta James.
06:09And, and, and then, you know, there was all these artifacts there, like Aretha Franklin's piano or, or like a handwritten letter from Dwayne Allman that was, you know, January 1, 1969 or whatever it was.
06:24And he was, he's just, he's just putting, he's just writing a letter saying, you know, I'm going to, this year, I want to try to become a better man.
06:30I want to be more kind to mankind.
06:34And I want to, you know, play guitar better than I ever have.
06:38And it was just cool to see the stuff there.
06:41And it led us into, you know, jamming on stuff and being really inspired to, um, to do a treatment of our own on all these songs.
06:51Now, while you were there, um, did you, did you put anything in the can for any upcoming albums?
06:59Actually, you know, we were there really primarily, we were there to write for our last rock record.
07:05And it was, this blues project was kind of like a happy surprise, you know, it was like a bonus because we weren't really there to, in the beginning, we weren't really there.
07:16We were there to write and we went to this place to be inspired to write.
07:20Like, and we did come up with great stuff for the last album, but we also got this stuff.
07:25We cut it live and it was just in the can.
07:29Um, and why it didn't come out first, I don't know, but, but like, um, you know, actually right around that time, uh, right after we, we, we did this, um, Slash had put out his life, his, uh, blues album.
07:44And so maybe that's why they wanted to hold off on it just so it had some distance between the two.
07:50But yeah, we, we, um, we went there with the intent to write and when we're writing in that situation, we're just trying to, you know, get some decent tones and stuff just to, to document the ideas.
08:04And, uh, we went back to Nashville to record that rock record, but while we were there and we had the sounds and we started to dabble in this blues thing and John goes, Hey, this could be really cool.
08:14Let's, let's have a go with Crossroads and see what we can do.
08:17And, uh, um, we had Sarah Tomac on drums because she's like a really famous session player from Nashville plays on everybody's records.
08:26And, and, uh, she, she was like, okay, Crossroads, what do you want to do?
08:31And it was like, you know, we just found a groove that worked and it turned into a, our own version of Crossroads.
08:38You know, we didn't want to do, we didn't want to do covers of stuff the way that, you know, other bands did.
08:44Like Kareem did an amazing, obviously it's a famous version of Crossroads.
08:49Um, so we, we did our own thing and we did it, our own thing to each one of them.
08:54And, and it was just inspiring and fun.
08:56And we kept it totally live, you know, it was like with mistakes or whatever.
09:00Um, it is what it was.
09:03And why did Sarah play on this record?
09:06Where was Tommy?
09:07Tommy was off doing other things.
09:10Um, and we were just in the writing, we were planning on just writing.
09:13So it didn't really, it didn't really bother us too much.
09:17But of course, Tommy's a great player.
09:19And, and we've been playing some of this stuff live and Tommy kills it.
09:22And he, you know, Tommy, Tommy would have done an equally great job, but, you know, each person's a little different.
09:29And I think that the fates put it that Sarah was there and she is, like I said, she's such a seasoned player.
09:38She can play anything.
09:40So when we were trying to dig deep and look for groups for stuff like Black Betty or changing the time signature of the thrill is gone or whatever, she was, all right, well, what do you want here?
09:51Do you want a Texas shovel?
09:52Do you want a shuffle?
09:53Or do you want a Chicago shuffle?
09:54What do you, you know, she knew all this stuff and it was really inspiring.
09:58Yeah.
09:58It was great.
09:59No, that's awesome.
10:00And so the first thing that came out was a boom, boom.
10:03And it's kind of funny because in the video, it's pretty much just a John and he's walking out of where, where was he walking?
10:08Is it over in Europe somewhere?
10:10Yeah, that's in Lyon, France.
10:12And it's really, I love, I mean, what they captured that day with the way the clouds and stuff.
10:17I love it.
10:18I, I actually love videos like that where it's not, you know, the band jumping around and stuff.
10:23But it's like the singer's the guy that is the guy, he's the guy that everybody wants to talk to.
10:29And, and it's, it just made sense.
10:32You know, let's just do something that's, that's artsy in a way and, you know, shows John singing it.
10:38And John's, John's a cool cat anyway.
10:42So it was, it was good.
10:43And I always wonder whenever I see something like that, did, do you guys have to get like permission from some of those people that were walking around to be in this video?
10:52Because there was a woman that was walking next to him for like, you can't have the song.
10:56That's a good question.
10:57I, I actually don't know.
10:58They, they might have, because the last thing you want to do is just put something out and have somebody come and go, hey, pay me.
11:04But, you know, it wouldn't surprise me if they, if they double checked because the, the, our, our social media team and, and the photographer that was filming that video is our, he's working with the team.
11:19And I think they, they're pretty good at making sure all the T's are crossed and whatnot.
11:25Yeah.
11:25Now, Tommy, of course, is from here.
11:27You just mentioned Aretha Franklin.
11:28Have you ever been, you know, Muscle Shoals and whatnot.
11:31Have you ever been to the Hitzville USA here, the Motown Museum here in Detroit?
11:36No, but Tommy has.
11:37And he says, it's, it says it's really cool.
11:39You know, and, and like you say, it's that, well, I don't know if you said it, but that is a whole different, that's a whole different side of the blues right there or the, or the early stages of rock and roll that was going on there in Detroit area.
11:56Yeah.
11:57Yeah.
11:58And you mentioned like, you know, when you, I, on the documentary, you know, this is where Dwayne Almond stood and all this stuff.
12:04And it's like at Hitzville USA, you can see the candy machine they would, that Stevie Wonder would get candy out of, you know, and, and just, just different cool things.
12:12They have a studio downstairs as well.
12:15That's awesome, man.
12:16I'll have to check that out next time we're over there and hopefully, you know, early next year we'll be, we'll be in the States over there.
12:22They're actually talking about a few dates later this year, but I don't know any details yet.
12:27Now, as far as you're concerned, which song stands out to you on this album in your opinion?
12:34I mean, I really am blown away by boom, boom.
12:38The reaction it's got, it's not, you know, it's not like a kick ass, you know, it's not, it's more of a chilled laid back barbecue type of, you know,
12:51let's marinate on this thing and just let it rock and just, I really dig it.
12:55I don't know.
12:55I think Black Betty probably is the, is the keystone to the album because we really came up with a different, a whole different vibe on that.
13:04It's very simple, but it's just, it feels good.
13:07And in fact, the whole album is really simple, but I would say Black Betty, for me, that, that and the thrill is gone was, was really fun and interesting and a challenge and scary and all kinds of stuff, man.
13:21Trying to, to do a number on a song that B.B. King just did perfectly.
13:27I mean, where do you go from there?
13:29So I had, I, I, I suggested, can we give it a shot and see what we do?
13:34And it turned into a, a really, you know, deep blues kind of sadder version of that song.
13:42Um, and then it, it, it, and all of a sudden we came up with, um, a new musical part that we tagged on the end.
13:49It was just kind of a descending line and it was just cool, you know?
13:53So it's, it's different.
13:54Looking for Trouble is out right now as we talk.
13:57And, uh, like I said, you got to see that movie Sinner.
13:59If you're flying over to Europe, maybe it'll be on your, your screen there in front of you.
14:02Is it out right now?
14:04Yeah.
14:04It came out like about a month ago.
14:06Oh, I'll definitely be looking at, looking that up.
14:09Yeah.
14:09And I, I'm sorry, say again.
14:11No, I was just going to say there's, there's a few movies that have that, you know, this record's going to make me want to go back and, you know, like, uh, Oh Brother Where I Are There.
14:20That was a great movie with, uh, George Clooney and, um, uh, I forget the actor's name, but, um, yeah.
14:28Even stuff like, um, Crossroads, the, the movie Crossroads.
14:33I want to go back and revisit that, you know.
14:35If you see Sinners, by the way, I won't spoil it for you, but stay through the credits and there is a, there, there is an end scene with a, with a famous blues man.
14:44We'll just say that.
14:45Cool.
14:46I definitely will.
14:47So, yeah.
14:48So, like I said, that's out right now, uh, speaking of Tommy, um, he, he texted me, I said, I told him I was gonna be talking to you.
14:54I said, give me a question.
14:54And he wanted to know what the, uh, what the facial hair, uh, philosophy was in Whitesnake.
15:00Oh, that's funny.
15:02There was, um, I mean, originally when, uh, when David put the band back together and, and me and Reb and, um, Tommy Aldridge and Marco and Timothy Drury, none of them.
15:15I, well, maybe Reb had a little face hair, facial hair.
15:18He had a little, Reb has always had a little cool thing going on, but it was very kept, you know.
15:26He basically just didn't like facial hair, David, you know, and especially when, as we were getting older, there would be some gray, you know, and he'd be like, Douglas, there's no gray snakes in Whitesnake.
15:37You know, and it's like, okay, DC, I'll get some, you know, basically I didn't really ever have a beard.
15:43I was just trying to, you know, um, he might've been talking about, you know, somebody else or at one point, Michael Devin, it was so funny, man, because he, you know, David was like not, he just wasn't into it.
15:55And Michael Devin, meanwhile, on his off time, had grown a really killer looking beard.
16:01And this was like way before everyone was growing beards.
16:05And, um, Michael just liked it.
16:06He was like, I don't, I don't, I'm not trying to prove anything.
16:09I just like it.
16:11It's just comfortable.
16:12I might want, my, my, my girlfriend likes it.
16:14I don't want to shave, you know?
16:16And David started to, and we were working on a record and David started to ask him like, hey, why don't you come up and do some vocals?
16:22And, you know, we got to come up and do bass anyways at some point.
16:25And Michael kept putting it off.
16:27And David was like, Douglas, what's, why is Michael avoiding me?
16:30You know, it's like somehow he got the word that Michael had a beard or he saw a picture of someone, I don't know.
16:36And he was like, Michael, it would be great to see you once you shaved that Don beard, you know, there's no, and, uh, and then David's son Jasper said, actually, I think it looks pretty cool.
16:48And then David's wife goes, yeah, it looks pretty cool.
16:49And then, oh, you think so, do you?
16:53Okay.
16:54You know, it was just like, but yeah, there's the, the, the, the saying that Tommy's probably talking about is there's no gray snakes and white snakes.
17:01That might be it.
17:02It's so funny how you, you imitate David too.
17:05It's like when, it's like when Zach, uh, talks about what Ozzy's saying, you always got to do the voice, right?
17:10Well, David, David and Ozzy, you know, those guys are larger than life.
17:14They have those voices that everybody knows.
17:15I mean, David, especially like he does, uh, he does some Christmas time.
17:20He, he does like the night before Christmas and reads it on YouTube and stuff.
17:24And, and anytime he speaks, it's really, it's just entertaining.
17:29You know, he, he would, he always calls people, he would always say Douglas.
17:34Yeah.
17:34Unless he was, unless he was upset with me, then he would say Doug, but Douglas or rebellious.
17:40When he was talking to Reb, he'd never call him Reb, you know, like rebellious, rebel.
17:45And, you know, so that's just how he's a statesman.
17:50You know, he's a, he's a statesman from England.
17:52And, and, uh, Ozzy was the same way.
17:54Ozzy's got that voice.
17:55It was just, and Krabi, ah, Krabi, ah, Krabi, Krabi, Krabi's got that voice too.
18:01You know, ah, whatever, dude.
18:03You know, he's, he's got a little Philadelphia accent to him, John Krabi.
18:08Um, I can't really do him properly the justice, but he's got his own thing.
18:14Yeah.
18:14I, I talked about this on the air the other day.
18:16I've done hundreds of interviews, maybe a thousand.
18:18I'm not sure.
18:19And nobody's ever called me darling except for David Coverdale.
18:23Exactly.
18:24Yeah.
18:25He would definitely, uh, he's got his own language sometimes, you know?
18:30Yeah.
18:31And plus, I don't know, does he, does he have any time to himself because he's on Twitter nonstop?
18:35You know, um, he, he took to that pretty much and he really, and like certain people, they
18:43really do a lot of, they do a lot of communication to people on Twitter.
18:47I, yeah, he's always posting and reposting.
18:49He's got a lot of time, you know, right now.
18:52I think he's semi-retired or whatever.
18:54And, uh, I think they're, they're talking about him doing, um, you know, he's, he's,
18:59he'll always have offers to tour or to do a residency or whatever.
19:04But I think he's in, he's worked really hard his whole life and he's just enjoying it right
19:08now.
19:08Yeah.
19:09I, uh, there was a, there was, he did something the other day about wine or something.
19:12I wanted to get a straight grab of it and send it to one of my friends.
19:14And I went back through his feed and it was like 20 posts ago.
19:17And it was like, you know, it was like, you know, 12 hours.
19:20I couldn't believe what she posts.
19:25I think he gets, you know, he's got a whole, um, entourage, a whole people that he, like,
19:32that he gets those, those joke things and memes and different stuff.
19:36And he'll, he'll immediately, if he sees something funny, he'll kind of pop it out there.
19:40You know?
19:41Yeah.
19:41That's great.
19:42Hey, uh, you, you, you mentioned, uh, Rob, I've never, I I'm sure I've met him, but
19:46it was, I think it was like 30 years ago.
19:48Uh, I've never interviewed him before.
19:49Um, what was he like to play with?
19:51He's great.
19:52Reb, I mean, in the very beginning, Reb and I had a little bit of a competition going
19:56and there was, it was like, you know, David, I think kind of liked that.
20:01He, he liked to having two, two guitar players that were kind of different.
20:05And, and so we were, you know, we were trying to find our way and, and he was doing, he
20:12would say like, yeah, Doug got all the solos.
20:14And I'm like, dude, what are you talking about?
20:15You're playing here.
20:16I go again and slide it in two of the biggest songs.
20:19And Reb did a great job with that stuff.
20:22He was, he, uh, especially there was one song that he really, um, nailed so good was the
20:31deep of the love that solo was better than, than the record, you know, just saying something.
20:36Um, but yeah.
20:38And then after a few years of playing together, we, I realized that Reb is a free spirit.
20:45You, he's like a, he's like a wild horse.
20:48You don't, you can't tame him.
20:49You can't, Reb, let's do this thing like this every day because he's just the best when
20:56he's going off the cuff free.
20:58So me and, uh, Tommy and Marco did, we would kind of lay down the solid bed.
21:04Reb would kind of do his thing on top, which made it really special.
21:08And then, uh, you know, I'd start to hear live tapes of us.
21:11And I'd really, I really started to embrace the difference of me and Reb together, what
21:15it brought.
21:16So it was cool.
21:17And he's a funny cat, man.
21:18He, he's got stories.
21:20He's got stories that will just have you on the floor laughing.
21:24So he's, he's really fun to tour with.
21:26And, and, uh, you know, he basically was on tour all the time that we worked together.
21:32He would be on tour with White Snake as a priority.
21:34And then he jumped right back into, um, doing Winger or, uh, whatever else he was, he wanted
21:40to do.
21:41And meanwhile, I just would take time off and I'd start writing.
21:45You know, we started to, to get that thing going with new music for White Snake, which
21:50was important.
21:51Yeah.
21:52I know this might be a stupid question.
21:54Are you still involved in the White Snake camp at all?
21:56No, no, no.
21:58He's David's got a, he's got a killer band with Joel.
22:00I wasn't sure.
22:01Yeah.
22:02That's what I thought.
22:02I mean, I, I don't even know what they're, I don't know what they're doing.
22:06I know David's put out a lot of, um, re-releases and different stuff that we did, you
22:13know, with, um, extra bits.
22:16I think there was just a live DVD, a live, um, box set that came out that has a couple
22:21of concerts in it.
22:23And, um, but he's busy doing that stuff right now.
22:27Um, and, and, you know, I basically, since the time that I joined the Dead Daisies, it's
22:34really been a priority, um, and I did do a few things in the beginning when I joined
22:40the band outside of the band, but around the time when, when Glenn Hughes came in, I
22:45basically dedicated a hundred percent because I wanted to make sure, first of all, when
22:49Glenn came in, that he was comfortable and we had to, you know, adjust our writing style,
22:56our, our writing, uh, how would you say, the writing, um, process, we had to adjust that
23:04when Glenn came because he's a whole different person, you know, with John, we sit down to
23:10get everybody and we just go through stuff together and, um, including, you know, doing
23:17a range of us on the, on this looking for trouble record, you know, we just sit down and we just
23:20all, we're all in it together, like a family, um, and with certain other situations, you
23:26know, people will bring certain other bands or situations, people will bring more completed
23:31ideas and then you still put your touches on it and tear it down or do whatever.
23:35But, um, so I've been a hundred percent dedicated to, to what we're doing and I'm super excited
23:42about this record, obviously, cause it's something different, you know?
23:46Yeah.
23:46I saw you guys when you played here with, uh, Glenn and man, I gotta tell you, uh, Glenn's in
23:50the price of, yeah, absolutely.
23:53He's one of the greats.
23:54I mean, he's, I mean, how lucky have I been to work with Glenn Hughes and Coverdale and
23:59Dio and Krabi and even, um, I've, I worked with Kelly Hanson from Foreigner for several
24:06years and, um, my first singer, my first band in LA when I was a kid was a band called Lion
24:13and a guy, the singer of Lion was Cal Swan from, he was from Britain and he was, you know,
24:20I've just been really lucky with singers.
24:22I can't even believe it actually.
24:25Yeah.
24:25That's right.
24:25I forgot about the deal because you're talking about it.
24:27That's when I started getting into rock and roll back then.
24:29And, uh, yeah, I only had a chance to meet Dio one time, but, uh, uh, Lizzie Hale told
24:34me something one time.
24:35He said, she said that Dio said to her that you'll never remember the names of the faces
24:40or where you meet these people, but they'll always remember you.
24:42So be nice to everybody.
24:43And that's kind of how he was when I met him.
24:45That's, that's good advice, you know, and, and, uh, he would actually remember people's
24:50names a lot of times he's, uh, and Krabi does too.
24:55Krabi can, can remember people.
24:58He's got a memory like that.
25:00I'll tell you what, a story of, of rock stars remembering people's names.
25:04I had the opportunity to meet Randy Rhodes when I was a kid, when I was 18, I first came
25:09to LA and some guy, this is not some guy, a guy that I made friends with.
25:15I met him at the Troubadour.
25:16He called me on my phone.
25:18I just had a little apartment, like a little studio.
25:21And my phone did get cut off after I was here about three months.
25:26But before I got cut off, this guy called me and he says, Hey, Randy's going to be playing
25:30a couple of songs down at the whiskey tonight.
25:32Do you want to go see that?
25:33I'm like, Randy, Randy who?
25:35And he's like, Randy Rhodes.
25:37And I go, you mean the English guy from Ozzy's band?
25:40He goes, he's not from England.
25:41He's from Burbank.
25:42I go, Randy Rhodes, the guitar player, the blonde guy plays with Les Paul and the, and
25:47the cool kind of weird flying.
25:50Yeah.
25:50Randy was, I go there.
25:51He, and he used to take lessons from Randy.
25:54He goes, I used to take lessons with him.
25:55I'm like, Oh my God.
25:56So we go meet Randy.
25:58And about a week later, my buddy calls me back and he goes, Hey, Randy's playing again.
26:04He's in town again.
26:05And he's going to play again with Kevin Dubrow.
26:07Do you want to come see him?
26:08And I go, hell yeah.
26:10And I walk in the whiskey and he, and he, I had met him and I told him how much I was
26:16blown away by him on the previous thing.
26:17But when I walked in a week later, he goes, Hey, Doug, how are you doing, man?
26:21I was just like, well, Randy, wow.
26:25It blew me away.
26:26I mean, I'm just, I was just a kid and he remembered my name and it just made me, I
26:31was just, you know, out of my mind with that.
26:35So I think it's great advice that he gave Lizzie and she's like that.
26:39Lizzie is a super, really kind hearted artist.
26:44She's great.
26:45It's funny you say that you thought he was English because back then kids, all you had
26:49was magazines.
26:50And if you didn't meet him or if you didn't see him on TV, how would you know?
26:53Now we get the internet, you can see what everybody's doing.
26:56I know it's, it's almost, you know, it's great, but it's almost like you missed that
27:00mystery.
27:00That was like, I mean, you know, going to concerts as a kid, I wouldn't even, I wouldn't
27:09even, it wouldn't even have dawned on me that maybe the band staying in a hotel down from
27:15the venue, or maybe, maybe we could go to the venue early and see soundtrack.
27:20And it just never even occurred to me.
27:22And we went to every concert from Aerosmith to Sabbath to, you know, everything.
27:27And, and that day I look back at it.
27:31I'm like, we walked out of this theater after getting our heads blown away by Randy and Ozzy,
27:38which is new band with Tommy Aldridge and Rudy.
27:42And there's a tour bus tour.
27:44I just didn't even think about it.
27:46They're probably just sitting on the bus, having a beer or whatever, you know, it just
27:50never occurred to me.
27:52And it's, you've been able to meet or play with a lot of these guys.
27:55I know it's crazy.
27:58I've been so lucky.
27:59I mean, I'm just all around, you know, thank God, man.
28:04Thanks to God.
28:04I'm really lucky for a lot of reasons.
28:07I got a, I've had a long career and I still got a lot to show and do.
28:13And I working with this band with, with John and Michael Devin and Tommy, and it's like a
28:19family, you know, it, it feels like a band when I, that I was in when I was 20, you know,
28:25it feels like that.
28:27Well, the new records out here are looking for trouble.
28:30That's important, but more importantly, your health.
28:32And it's really great to see.
28:34And I'm super excited for you with the new record.
28:36And of course the clean bill of health.
28:38And as you say, every day you get a little bit better.
28:40And that's great to hear.
28:42Yeah.
28:42Just so you, just so you, so I got my blood done, my blood work done about three months
28:50after the last procedure, after the last radiation.
28:53And my blood came back perfect.
28:55And I had a full, you got to get a full body scan like every six months for the first few
29:01years.
29:03Cause you can't really, you're not supposed to say you're not really technically cancer
29:07free until you've been five years, but I feel great.
29:11So, I mean, I'm just going to roll with it and, and just keep trying to take care of myself.
29:15And, you know, the doctor, I said, what do I, you know, he's like, there's a lot of stuff
29:20that, that, you know, you can eat to be more healthy, like keep away from stuff that, that's
29:27got more than two or three ingredients.
29:29If you can, you know, go with, go with real food, stuff like that.
29:34So I'm just going to keep doing that and playing music and I'm happy as a clam.
