00:50Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:55We begin with the news.
01:08The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, led on Thursday a meeting of the High Command
01:12of the Bolivarian Revolution with the officials elected on the regional and legislative elections
01:17of May 25. With the presence of Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, as well as ministers and other
01:23high-ranking officials, the meeting highlighted the work of the elected officials in their
01:29territories. For this, the Venezuelan President congratulated the Governors for their victory
01:34and assured the entirety of the Government Cabinet is at their service to ensure the needs
01:39of their communities are met. Furthermore, the head of state highlighted how the results signify
01:45the rebirth of a new union for all Venezuelans without discrimination or distinction, a new
01:52age that can only be achieved through revolution.
02:05And the people are standing, happy, working. Every time Chavismo wins there is happiness, peace
02:13and tranquility in Venezuela. When the ultra-right and the extremism, half raises its head, and
02:20feels a little bit of power.
02:25They think this is the moment to play a joke on the country. But no, those times are behind
02:31us. Here, what is coming, is times of stability, harmony, happiness, hard work, hard work, and
02:40many actual results, for the country's prosperity.
02:46President Nicolás Maduro stressed that despite the difficulties and destabilization attempts
02:51promoted by the Venezuelan extreme right wing, the revolution has been able to maintain
02:55itself and work for the development and progress of the country.
03:00It's not about a victory. No, it is about a road. A road that we are building, that we
03:10are working on, jointly. A road that has ups and downs. But it has been demonstrated that
03:20the Bolivarian revolution has the capacity to navigate, as the admirals here present would
03:28say. The government of Venezuela assured that the oil fields are in full production in association
03:37with international companies, in spite of the U.S. sanctions and revocation of licenses.
03:42During the inauguration of a Federal Industrial 2025 Expo, the Executive Vice President, Delsi
03:49Rodriguez, affirmed that this event shows the cohesion and productive unity in the country.
03:54Also, Rodriguez pointed out that Venezuela has strategic plans to become a productive country
04:00with diversification without independence on oil income, proved by the 13 engines activated throughout
04:08the national territory and which have provided results during 16 consecutive quarters of economic
04:14recovery. In turn, Rodriguez pointed out that all the transnational oil companies continue
04:20operating in the country, emphasizing that Venezuela does not recognize the revocation of licenses.
04:26At the same time, he assured that the national production is maintained at one million barrels
04:31per day.
04:33We came from a process of economic recovery from an economy that was, as we have said, in intensive
04:44care. The economy woke up and we have had 16 consecutive quarters of growth and economic recovery.
04:53There it is, those are our charts, 16 consecutive quarters of economic recovery.
05:06Rodriguez also said that PDVSA continues to produce an alliance with international oil companies,
05:12despite the unilateral coercive measures imposed against Venezuela.
05:16The fields, Petro Boscan, Petro Piar, Petro Independencia, Petro Junín, Petro Sucre, Petro Quiriquire,
05:25Petro Regional del Lago and Cardón Fort are in food production. The workers of PDVSA are maintaining
05:31the production plan despite the fact that both PDVSA and PARTNER B are victims of unilateral coercive measures.
05:39In the case of Venezuela, you know this because of the anti-blockade law and because in our Constitution,
05:51we do not recognize any jurisdiction other than the jurisdiction of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
05:58A new flight arrived from Mexico with 315 Venezuelan migrants as part of the Back to the Homeland Plan,
06:10promoted by the Bolivarian government. The Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace informed that the group of nationals
06:16who arrived at the Simon Bolivar International Airport in La Guayra State included 95 women, 74 men, 80 girls and 66 boys.
06:26After arriving at the airport, the authorities provided the corresponding health and legal security protocols.
06:32This initiative also offers psychosocial support to help all compatriots to cope with the difficulties faced by the migrant community abroad,
06:42marked by the policy of xenophobia and criminalization against Venezuelans by the Trump's administration,
06:48in complicity with the Venezuelan fascist far-right.
06:56Colombian social and political groups continued for the second day a national strike in support of the referendum
07:02promoted by Gustavo Petro's government. Those mobilized carried out sit-ins, rallies and diverse cultural events in support of the government,
07:10and the popular consultation. During the day, an open town meeting will take place in Bogotá at Bolivar Square,
07:18which is a constitutionally recognized process of debate among a group of citizens.
07:23The 48-hour national strike began on Wednesday with rallies in several of the most important cities of the country,
07:29such as Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Tunja and Bogotá.
07:34In this context, the 48-hour national strike aims to support the social reforms promoted by the government of Gustavo Petro.
07:50The strike action demands the approval of the popular consultation and denounces the actions of the oligarchic right wing
07:57that seeks to stop political and social changes.
08:01According to the United Workers' Central, next June 11th,
08:05there will be another national strike accompanied by four big caravans to Cali, Medellín, Barranquilla and Bogotá.
08:12And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,

08:25Welcome back to From the South.
08:37In Argentina, workers of the Garrahan Pediatric Hospital rallied to the Ministry of Health
08:42to denounce the critical situation of the country's main pediatric center.
08:46The demonstration was led by resident doctors, nurses and technical staff who also denounced the insufficient salaries,
08:54loss of professionals and shortage of supplies.
08:57The Association of Professionals and Technicians of Garrahan had filed a criminal complaint against the hospital authorities
09:04which were appointed by the Minister of Health and President Millay for breach of duty as a public official and abandonment of patients.
09:13Several sectors in Argentina are also in conflict due to the fiscal adjustment of the current administration
09:19and the loss of the salaries purchased in power.
09:22Today we are marching for a salary increase.
09:33We have lost approximately 60% of our salary since last year and we started mobilizations last year without any response
09:40and today we are mobilizing again in front of the Ministry to ask them to take care of the health personnel
09:45and to give them a decent salary to be able to continue working in the public health system.
09:50My son, Luciano, is a patient at Garrahan.
09:55He has cerebral paralysis and the truth is that we are supporting the residents
09:59because what they pay them is unfair for all that they do for our children every day, for all the work they do.
10:06We know firsthand everything they work for deserves a fair wage, they deserve to be well off so that they can take care of our children
10:13in the best way and with the love that they always do.
10:18In Mexico the electoral silence came into force ahead of Sunday's June 1st judicial elections.

10:38Citizens are summoned to the polls to elect positions in the Supreme Court of Justice,
10:43magistrates of the Court of Judicial Discipline, Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal

11:19with which they cover the production of 268,000 tons of corn and 78,000 tons of rice.
11:28According to data from the institution, so far in 2025, corn production has increased by 22%, while rice production has increased by 38%.
11:38The President of Brazil, Inácio Lula da Silva, handed over a housing settlement in the south of the country for landless families belonging to the Landless Workers Movement .
11:53The head of state, accompanied by a group of ministers, handed over the land in the municipality of Ortigueira, located in the region of Campos Gerais, Paraná.
12:03The settlement, comprising up to 10,000 hectares, was set up so that more than 1,600 families can settle and expand their agricultural and livestock production.
12:15Now, under the name of Mayla Sabrina, the MST, in view of their struggle and resistance, described the handover as a victory for both the community and the MST.
12:26The 29th edition of the United Nations model of the University of Havana Half Moon 2025 is underway in the Cuban capital.
12:41The event was attended by many students from higher education institutions across the country,
12:46who discussed topics such as human rights, the call for a world free of nuclear weapons, and the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda.
12:55The Cuban Association of the United Nations and the University Student Federation have been developing these activities since 1996,
13:03where students strengthened their knowledge of international law and the functioning of multilateral organizations such as the United Nations.
13:28In Vietnam, the government warns over the importance of national disaster prevention as the rainy season begins.
13:35Authorities registered at least 29 dead or missing people since the beginning of 2025 in national disasters.
13:42In a statement, Prime Minister Fan Mingxin called on ministries to keep emergency personal focus on responding to the risks and effects of heavy rains.

14:24Authorities informed that floods were threatening to destroy an old salt mine in Prairie in the central Romania.
14:31The mine hosts beautiful galleries and a religious chapel and is an important tourist attraction, selling half of a million tickets yearly.
14:39Weather officials forecast more rainfall in the coming days over parts of northern Romania.
14:48On Wednesday, the collapse of the Beric Glacier partially destroyed the Alpine village of Blatton in Switzerland's southern Wallis region.
14:57The collapse sent tons of rock and ice down the mountain slope and into the valley below, largely destroying the small town which had been home to 300 people and was evacuated last week due to the impending danger.
15:10In the aftermath, Swiss authorities were monitoring for possible flood risks in a southern valley and declared a local state of emergency after the glacier debris blocked the river Lonza.
15:23In this context, no injured were reported but such operations have been suspended for a person believed in the affected zone at the time.
