00:00He was paralyzed. He was not going to be able to walk again.
00:04So I wanted to give him a different mode of transportation.
00:07And he was zipping around the house.
00:10You could see that he had this incredible will to live, despite what was going on with him.
00:15I am Shannon, and this is Harper's Story for GeoBeats.
00:21I run a rescue called Mojo's Hope, and we're a non-profit rescue for animals with special needs.
00:25He was found outside in Alaska at about three weeks old by a good Samaritan.
00:30We took him in and got him the care he needed immediately.
00:34But the injury, whatever happened to him, happened probably during birth or right after birth.
00:39So there was no way for him to repair and get better and be able to walk, despite that.
00:43He's persevering. He's just incredibly full of life.
00:50I introduced the cart real slowly.
00:52First, introduced the harness, introduced the cart, made it a very positive association,
00:56because I believe fully in fear-free methods, never want any stress-induced for them,
01:00because you don't want it to be a negative thing ever.
01:02You want him to enjoy it.
01:03He took to it in a week.
01:05He was like, this is it. I got it.
01:08He just loves climbs, zips, pounces everywhere.
01:10I have to have, like, bedding everywhere, because he, like, will launch off of things.
01:19So I have to be very careful with him.
01:22I call him, lovingly, my feisty pernado of love, because that's what he is.
01:26He's extremely feisty, but he's also very affectionate and loyal.
01:30So when Cinder was here, Cinder helped raise him.
01:32She was my husky, and she jodied on him.
01:34He's on special food. He has medications, lots of supplements.
01:37He's incontinent, so he's not able to go to the bathroom on his own.
01:40So he needs to be expressed and stimulated, which can be very uncomfortable for him.
01:44But he trusts me to do that.
01:46Cinder helped raise him. They were together for four years.
01:49She passed in October 7, 2023.
01:52Good girl!
01:53Cinder was an extraordinary animal, and losing her has been really hard on everybody in the home.
01:57And her absence is very profound.
02:00And when she was gone, he got closer with me because she was not there.
02:05She was always close with me.
02:06But just knowing that he feels that safety net with me and knows how much he is loved,
02:11I would say it transcends time and space.
02:16We just don't know what tomorrow is going to bring.
02:18If you could look at the ones you love today and tell them what they mean to you
02:21and show that to them each and every day, then that will make the world a better place.
02:24Oh my god.
02:34Try and seek the label of love.
02:37It's precious as anybody could be.
