00:40Former lawmaker Arnie Tevez Jr. has been deported from Timor-Leste to the Philippines to face his criminal cases after years of evading arrest
00:50Tevez boarded a Manila-bound plane around 1.10pm on Thursday, May 29
00:55He was handcuffed and had his feet shackled as Philippine and Timorese authorities escorted him to the aircraft
01:01The plane took off at about 2.42pm
01:04The Philippine delegation bringing him home includes NBI Director Jaime Santiago and DOJ Assistant Secretary Eliseo Cruz
01:11The Timorese government announced Tevez deportation on May 28
01:15It said Tevez had no visa, legal papers, or valid passport to warrant his stay in Timor-Leste
01:21Tevez's lawyer said he was arrested in Dili on Tuesday, May 27 by Immigration Police
01:26At the time, the reason for the arrest was unclear
01:29But the Timorese government later said it was due to immigration violations
01:33Police Major General Nicolás Torre III has been appointed Chief of the Philippine National Police
01:40Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin made the announcement on Thursday, May 29
01:45Torre is replacing Police General Romel Francisco Marbil, who is retiring in early June
01:51President Marcos earlier described his choice for PNP Chief, without naming names, as a quote
01:56very senior officer who knows the situation
01:59As Chief of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group
02:03Torre oversaw the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte and his handover to the International Criminal Court
02:09He also led the arrest of televangelist Apollo Kibuloy for charges of sexual abuse and human trafficking
02:15Torre is the first PNP Chief to have graduated from the Philippine National Police Academy
02:20Previous police chiefs were graduates of the Philippine Military Academy
02:24Solicitor General Menardo Guevara exits President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s cabinet
02:30Guevara confirmed this in a message to Rappler on May 29 and was later announced by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin
02:37This is part of a second wave of changes to the Marcos cabinet
02:41The first revamp was announced on May 23 when Marcos asked all cabinet members to file their courtesy resignation
02:48Guevara was former President Rodrigo Duterte's Justice Secretary
02:52and it was speculated that Marcos had meant to remove him
02:54Guevara earlier declined to defend the Marcos administration in cases involving Duterte's arrest
03:00and handover to the International Criminal Court
03:02But Guevara was reportedly excluded from the first revamp because his replacement had not been finalized
03:07UP College of Law Dean Darlene Marie Berberabe will replace Guevara as Solicitor General
03:13whose primary function is to lawyer for the government
03:16Meanwhile, brothers Boying and John Vicar Muglia are retained as Justice and Interior Secretaries respectively
03:22and Gibbo Chodoro as Defense Secretary
03:24Commission on Higher Education Chief Popoy Devera is out and will be replaced by CHED Commissioner Shirley Agrupis
03:31President Marcos orders all ranking executives of government-owned and controlled corporations to submit their courtesy resignations
03:40This comes days after he asked cabinet members to do the same
03:43This includes chairpersons, chief executive officers, directors, trustees and board members of GOCCs
03:50A notice dated May 26 was made public through the Governance Commission website on Wednesday, May 28
03:56All chairpersons and CEOs who don't hold other government posts are to file their resignations with the Office of the Executive Secretary
04:04Meanwhile, appointed directors, trustees and board members should notify the Governance Commission
04:09But they are to continue working until Marcos accepts their resignation
04:13Marcos earlier said he would revamp his administration to make sure it is aligned with what the public wants
04:19Pope Leo XIV calls for a ceasefire in Gaza
04:24The leader of the world's Catholics made this appeal on Wednesday, May 28
04:28He also called on Israel and Hamas militants to follow international humanitarian law
04:33Pope Leo says, quote

04:37Stop the fighting
04:38Liberate all the hostages
04:40Completely respect humanitarian law
04:42Leo has only been pope for three weeks
