01:51How do I describe my art?

01:54I guess I'm what's called an outsider artist,

01:56and that means working way outside the margins of the regular art world,

02:01which is fine with me.

02:02And because I had my big career, I'm not interested in selling.

02:06I'm making my art for myself,

02:07and when other people like it, I'm delighted.

02:11My art is very shamanistic.

02:20In many ways, it's very childish.

02:22It's very, very, very colorful.

02:25I'm an assemblage artist.

02:27I assemble, I love junk.

02:28That's why every week I go to the flea market.

02:31Oh my God, I love junk.

02:32And I love taking detritus.

02:34It's almost like being an archaeologist.

02:36And my art is about the female landscape.

02:38It's always about women.

02:39This is where I work.

02:46It's a great big shed.

02:48It's full of my materials.

02:50And right now, I'm working on several of my found object sculptures.

02:54They're essentially anthropomorphic memory jugs.

02:58And always have a female theme.

03:00And they tell stories.

03:01They tell stories about femininity and also my personal mythology.

03:20Does my art have a mission?

03:23You know, if I'm an outsider artist,

03:25I'm doing it for the sheer visceral joy of doing it.

03:36When you're an outsider artist like me

03:39And many people I know

03:40The art does not come from your head.

03:42There's no planning.

03:44It doesn't come from the heart.

03:45It comes from the gut.

03:47And then suddenly it just is.

03:48It almost makes it so.

03:50Some people walk through this light

03:52Not on their feet but on their face

03:57When I first burst into art

04:00I didn't tell most of my friends

04:02And at that time

04:02I didn't have that weird and colorful

04:04Artistic group of friends that I have now

04:07I had fairly

04:08I don't want to say ordinary

04:09Because they were nice people

04:10But damn it, they were fairly ordinary

04:13And I didn't even tell them

04:15My family, yes, they were gobsmacked

04:18You know, what happened to mother?

04:20My family were very supportive

04:22And my husband thinks something else

04:24He said, this is better than Picasso

04:25I said, well honey, I don't know

04:27If we'd go that far

04:29Thank you

04:29And I'm living a dream right now

04:36I really am

04:37Because all my friends are artists

04:38We believe in color

04:39Most of us are outsider artists

04:41So our work is wild and bold

04:44And often very crazy

04:45And yes, it's a dream come true
