Artistas Radicais: A escultora de papel

Diana é uma artista colombiana radicada em Bristol e domina a arte de esculpir em papel.

00:00I think paper is very similar to nature because it's very vulnerable and fragile.

00:09So having that quality in the material along the things that I represent,

00:14I think that it blends really well because it makes people respect the work.

00:23My name is Diana Beltran Herrera. I am a Colombian designer and artist.

00:31Coming from Colombia, which is a very diverse country and full of handmade items and crafts,

00:38I grew up making lots of things since I was very little.

00:42So making objects and things has always been my passion.

00:47So paper was a really good material to test ideas and to just see how my ideas could become prototypes

00:53and then from the prototypes I could see like an idea for an object.

01:00I use a range of simple mediums like acrylics, woodcolour, spray paint and different brushes

01:09and also a cutting machine that allows me to create patterns.

01:12The effort and time I have put into taking my career to this level is endless hours of creativity.

01:24I am a very passionate and curious person about what I do so I don't see this as a job but as a lifestyle.

01:31I like to source information from books and images and that allows me to start creating my sketches.

01:43Then I jump into the sketch part of my work where I work digitally so I can submit digital sketches to my clients

01:49and visualise how my piece is going to look at the end.

01:53Then I jump into production which is exactly cutting the paper and creating the volumes.

01:58And then the final step of my work is to do the documentation with photography.

02:03Currently I am working on a campaign for an Austrian brand that produces food and I think it's really interesting

02:15because it's replicating very complicated objects and trying to make them look like the real ones.

02:20This campaign is to showcase biodiversity and green soil so I think it also blends really well with my work.

02:27It's been every single day in my life that I have put a lot of love and a lot of attention to what I'm doing.

02:37I think also I'm sharing everything that I do and I think sharing is the most important thing to never be afraid.
