00:00All right, so I told you Halliburton's triple-double was historic.
00:04I guess if you crunch numbers as long as you can,
00:06I guess you can find something to make it historic.
00:0932 points, 12 boards, 15 dimes, 4 steals, and 0 turnover.
00:14He's the first player in NBA history with a 30-plus point, 15-plus dime,
00:1910-plus board, and 0 turnover game.
00:24So how about that?
00:25If we can just narrow those numbers down right to there.
00:28Here's Halliburton talking about his ridiculous numbers.
00:31I didn't know that.
00:33I feel like we're making up stats at some point to make me look better.
00:38But I think I'm just trying to play the right way, man.
00:40I just want to impact winning.
00:41I told you guys that for the last two years.
00:47I think after my third year and getting the big contract
00:51and now having to step into a new role,
00:53I think for me it was about how can I impact winning.
00:55And I'm just trying to do that to the best of my ability.
00:58We're building something special here.
00:59We're having a lot of fun with what we're doing.
01:01And I feel like I'm at the forefront of that along with a lot of these guys.
01:06So I'm just trying to play the right way and play the best of my ability.
01:09Yeah, being a showboat and showing up other players.
01:10That's what it's about.
01:11And I feel like I did a good job today.
01:12But, man, I feel like there's so many different opportunities for me to get better
01:16and for us as a group to get better and play better.
01:18Oh, yeah, you're just Joel Korn again.
01:18So we'll take a weekend from this game and just be ready to go for game time.
01:20I'm not even listening to it.
01:22I talk right over him.
01:24So he's a great player.
01:26There's no getting around it.
01:27And everything I said about him is dead on right.
01:30Here's another thing.
01:32Guys, though, look, at some level when you're in the NBA
01:36and you got that many points in a game, you lose track, right?
01:39But a guy like me, like I play like 15 minutes in the game, right?
01:42In a 45-minute game, I play about 15 minutes of burn.
01:45Believe me, my job is to get 10 and 10 boards.
01:49That's my job.
01:50Every time I go, I got a game tonight.
01:52They're like, give me 10 and 10.
01:53We're good.
01:54Don't do anything else.
01:55Just get rebounds and give me 10.
01:58And so when I play, I literally, I just count them.
02:00One, two, three, four, five.
02:04And then I'm like, break.
02:05I need some water, liquor, rum, anything.
02:09Once I can win and give them the 10, then I go in.
02:11I don't care about scoring.
02:13I care about rebounding.
02:14You know what I do?
02:15I count them.
02:16That's three.
02:17That's four.
02:18That's five.
02:18This is what they want from me.
02:20So give them what they want.
02:22I think guys, when they play, know what they're doing in a game for sure.
02:26And guys that play for money, they know they got to get certain numbers to get that check.
02:32It's real simple.
02:33You either average over, you know, if you want to make big money in the NBA, you got to average
02:37over 25 a game.
02:39That's it.
02:40So if you're some guy scoring 13, 16 points, you're not making no money.
02:45That's it.
02:46That's how it works.
02:47You want to be a stud in the NHL, have four or five shots on goal every game in a point
02:51a game or a goal every other game and two assists, three assists a week, or you're not
02:57making $8 million.
02:58And Mike, you know, I'm right.
03:00Yeah, I mean, some of the, definitely the big, big, big stupid money that we talk about.
03:07You got to be able to do that.
03:09I mean, there are some NBA contracts for guys a little further down the bench that are stupid
03:14also in terms of the amount of money that they get for doing nothing and they don't even score and
03:19they don't even score and they get themselves a lot of cash.
03:22So it is pretty amazing.
03:24As far as fancy stats and things like that, of course, Rick Carlisle is quite the curmudgeon
03:29when it comes to that stuff.
03:31He doesn't want to hear anything about all these big stats that Halliburton put up.
03:35But I, you know, I just really tired about talking about individual stats this time of year.
03:41You know, it's just not, it just flies in the face of what's necessary.
03:45You know, I had a radio show this morning and somebody asked me about Ben Matherin's numbers.
03:51You know, I mean, this is a team game.
03:54It's not about the numbers.
03:55It's about being ready.
03:57And a lot of times defining plays in the playoffs have nothing to do with statistical things.
04:02They're loose ball plays.
04:03They're charges taken, stuff like that.
04:06You know, I mean, you know, celebrate that.
04:09You know, talk about that.
04:10I mean, those are the kinds of things that are truly important.
04:15So, look, Tyrese is a great player.
04:18And I think people realize that, you know.
04:22Okay.
04:23He happens to do some very impressive statistical things.
04:27But he's well aware that all of this far transcends statistics.
04:34Okay.
04:35Let me tell you something that I know for a fact,
04:37and I've seen it five million times in both the NBA and NHL,
04:42college basketball, high school basketball,
04:44football, everything.
04:45When the game's over,
04:46the entire coaching staff sits around in their little room,
04:50and they look at stats.
04:52They all look at the score sheet.
04:53They all look at the stats, every one of them.
04:55When the players go to the podium in the presser, what do they do?
04:58First thing they do, they grab the stat sheet,
04:59start looking at their numbers.
05:01Everything.
05:01Rebounds, turnovers, assists, points, everything.
05:05Dimes, free throws, block shots.
05:08That's all they ever do.
05:10In the NHL, we used to get on the plane,
05:13and the entire team is sitting there reading the stats.
05:16Who did what?
05:18How many minutes in the shift?
05:20How many shots on goal?
05:21How many hits?
05:22Plus, minus.
05:24Don't kid yourself.
05:25Do not believe one word that comes out of his mouth.
05:28I don't care what guys do.
05:30I guarantee he cares how many fouls there were,
05:33how many turnovers, how many points off turnovers,
05:35how many free throws one team shot and the other shot.
05:38And then he doesn't care what guys score individually,
05:41but I guarantee he needs four or five guys in double figures to win a game.
05:47Don't kid yourself with all this acting like,
05:50I don't ever care about stats.
05:52That's the easiest out for a coach to talk like he doesn't give a rat's ass
05:57about stats.
05:58That's the easiest out for a coach that I've ever seen.
05:59I have never once in my life seen a coach not look at a stat sheet
06:03after an NBA basketball game.
06:04That's all they do.
