00:00I would first of all thank Jason for his extraordinary leadership and I know you
00:05all know that he's an incredible member of Congress and some of you may be
00:10thinking well the bar isn't very high back there and that's actually true but
00:17if we had a bunch of people more like Jason who understood that his response
00:24his job really has nothing to do with him but it's about serving the people of
00:29this district serving the people of Colorado serving the country something
00:34that I know he learned in his service to our in our military overseas lessons that
00:43have care have carried with him throughout his political career and into
00:48this auditorium tonight you know we'd have I think it's safe to say the House of
00:53Representatives would have a 90% approval rating instead of the 9% approval rating
00:58that they have right now and it's been a great privilege for me to have the
01:02chance to work with him and I want to thank all of you for being here as well
01:07I mean this is an extraordinary time in our country's history is a profoundly
01:12reactionary period in American history and I have no doubt that if we do what we
01:18are required to do when we consider what our responsibilities are to this democracy
01:27that we will not just get through this but that there will be something on the
01:32other side of this that is very important to the future of the kids for
01:38example who are graduating this weekend or did graduate this weekend from Arapahoe High
01:43School that is who is in my mind when I am on the floor of the Senate I see the
01:49super is it the superintendent no Board of Education member here that is who is in
01:54my mind as somebody who once was superintendent of Denver Public Schools
01:58work in a school district where most of the kids were kids of color most the
02:02kids were kids living in poverty whose parents were working two and three jobs the
02:07question for me in the end of all of this nightmare that we're in today is how do we
02:11build a better future for them how do we build a better future for the kids who
02:15graduate from Arapahoe how do we build a better future for the kids that are
02:19graduating all over rural Colorado as we're standing here today we've got to
02:24keep that question in our sights we are going to have a very scientific approach we
02:30have that Easter Bunny head over there and that has traveled with me to all of my
02:37town halls I'm grateful that Jason's that it's true I he's not like but what we
02:45don't we don't screen questions in these town halls that's also an unusual part of
02:50my town halls I want you to feel like you're able to ask when you're able to
02:54ask her that more important we're answering what you really had we're gonna
02:58call two tickets two numbers at a time and then we'll have microphones come to
03:04you and then you'll ask your question and we'll try to do the best we can to
03:08answer it we're gonna end on time because you guys have responsibilities
03:13Jason has responsibilities and I have the honor of introducing my friend Cory Booker
03:20at something in Denver today that I need to get to the show John take it away
