The complete method of Ghusl (ritual purification bath) in English, according to the Sunnah (tradition of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ), is as follows:
Steps for Performing Ghusl Properly (According to Sunnah):
Make the intention (niyyah) in your heart that you are performing Ghusl to purify yourself.
(This is internal; nothing needs to be said out loud.)
Say 'Bismillah' (In the Name of Allah).
Wash your hands up to the wrists three times.
Wash the private parts thoroughly to remove any impurity.
Perform Wudu (ablution) just like you do for prayer.
You may delay washing your feet until the end if standing in a place where the water collects.
Pour water over the head three times, making sure it reaches the roots of the hair and the scalp.
Wash the entire body, starting with the right side, then the left side, and then the rest of the body.
Ensure that no part of the body is left dry, including under the armpits, inside the navel, between fingers and toes, etc.
Wash your feet if not already done during Wudu.
Important Points:
Ghusl becomes obligatory after major impurity (e.g., after intercourse, ejaculation, menstruation, or postpartum bleeding).
You must ensure water reaches the entire body.
The Ghusl is valid even if you only wash the whole body once with the intention, but the Sunnah method is more complete and rewarding.
