00:00Big quarterback matchups.
00:01The league went for it on Sunday night.
00:04Buffalo versus Baltimore.
00:06What was your takeaway, Cap, when you saw that game
00:09to start the season for those two teams?
00:12Yeah, Sunday Night Football.
00:13Now, I'm fired up for it, but, man,
00:15I wish they would have put that late in the season.
00:16That's the thing that bothers me.
00:18You've got, and they've got, you saw what happened in the playoffs,
00:23but you've got Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen,
00:25arguably the NFL's two best quarterbacks.
00:27Do you really have to play it this early in the season?
00:30In week one, I'd rather see it like when it,
00:33and it's an AFC game, by the way,
00:34I'd rather see it in week 16, 17, or 18.
00:36But, again, they're about the best matchup possible.
00:40Sunday Night Football, NBC obviously wants this.
00:42They have say.
00:44The league and the partners, they consult.
00:48So this is a great matchup.
00:49And, by the way, because it's a head-to-head matchup,
00:53this could have playoff implications, obviously,
00:57if there's a tiebreaker involved later on.
01:00So it will, definitely down the road, have playoff implications.
01:03What I think is fascinating about this one, Cap,
01:06is it's going to move the MVP market, no doubt,
01:11just because it's Josh Allen versus Lamar.
01:13But because the season is so long,
01:17even if the race comes down to these two guys against one another again,
01:23I don't know if a week one game is going to really be the decider,
01:27and it might lead to a big overreaction when, really,
01:30this award is won in December.
01:32All right, so I vote, Kevin, it's funny you bring this up,
01:35for two polls.
01:36One of them is the Pro Football Writers Association.
01:38It's not the AP poll.
01:41It's not recognized like AP.
01:47AP is the big one.
01:48But Pro Football Writers is the most detailed.
01:50And I always say you can't have recency bias.
01:53Like last year, okay, my vote was for Lamar Jackson.
01:57Josh Allen was unbelievable.
01:58He was better than Lamar in the second half,
01:59but you've got to look at all 18 weeks.
02:02And that's the problem with it.
02:03So that's on your point.
02:04It's only one game.
02:05It's week one.
02:06Now, if Lamar Jackson throws for .350 and Josh Allen throws for .125,
02:11I'm not going to forget that when I vote.
02:14But, you know, I'm not voting for basically four months later.
02:17So we have to take it – you have to take it –
02:21when you vote or you're a fan, you're at a sports bar
02:24and you're arguing with your friends,
02:25you've got to take the whole season to account.
02:28Well, one – absolutely.
02:30And you try not to get caught up in, you know,
02:34what have you done for me lately?
02:36But it's – one of the fascinating things with last year's race is
02:39it seemed as if Josh had ended the race in November,
02:44but Lamar just kept putting on great performance after great performance,
02:47and it made for such a really fun and really interesting race.
