00:04:22especially when it's all for the love of Liv.
00:04:49He's got the blues, he's got the blues, he's got the blues.

00:06:43I give up all those other queens, all for the love of Liv.
00:06:48No more nights at Sloppy Joe's, no more bedding on the nose.

00:07:16Get set for the fastest instrumental you ever heard,
00:07:27the new Louis Jarvis arrangement of Be-By-Bo-Ville.
00:07:50Hey Joe,
00:07:56call down and have Louis' car ready.
00:07:58His father's dying and we gotta get out there right away.
00:08:03Well, how does it look?
00:08:05Gosh, we're almost there.
00:08:08Well, relax honey Carter, you're about as nervous as a newborn kitten.
00:08:13Going to New York,
00:08:15riding in an airplane for the first time,
00:08:18who wouldn't be?
00:08:19Well, me for New York and a job.
00:08:22Boy, it's a good thing someone else is paying these freight charges.
00:08:26Yes, that's very kind of Mr. Jarvis.
00:08:30Yes, you know, I can't understand why an old man like Jarvis
00:08:33wants to see you before he dies.
00:08:36Don't talk that way.
00:08:38He's just sick, that's all.
00:08:40Besides, I've never seen him before.
00:08:43Well, maybe he'll leave you something in his room.
00:08:46Now, June, he happens to have been a friend of my mother's.
00:08:51Well, I don't care whose friend he was,
00:08:54as long as we get to New York.
00:08:56So he had a crush on your mother, huh?
00:08:59Yes, they were very much in love.
00:09:03Mother told me the story over and over again.
00:09:06What happened?
00:09:08Well, it started in a little cafe in New Orleans,
00:09:12about 30 years ago.
00:09:15Mother was a singer.
00:09:18Never, never set me free
00:09:21For this night is heavenly
00:09:25So tonight be tender to me
00:09:34Darling, I think you're wonderful.
00:09:36You've said that before, Mr. Jarvis.
00:09:38I know that, but I didn't say I wanted to take you to New York.
00:09:41New York?
00:09:43Yes, of course.
00:09:44I've been looking for a singing partner, and I think you're it.
00:09:47You mean you want me to go to New York?
00:09:50Of course, you've heard of me, haven't you?
00:09:52I'm Skylar Jarvis.
00:09:54Oh, of course I've heard of you, Mr. Jarvis.
00:09:57Oh, but I can never be good enough to...
00:10:00Ah, let me be the judge of that.
00:10:02You see, my show opens in five weeks,
00:10:04and I'd like to have you with me.
00:10:06Are you coming?
00:10:07Mr. Jarvis.
00:10:08Well?
00:10:09I think you're wonderful.
00:10:11And did she go to New York?
00:10:13That very night.
00:10:15And there were never two happier people.
00:10:18In New York, Mother had to have an audition before the producers of the show.
00:10:23¶
00:10:39¶ Night be tender to me.
00:10:47¶ For tonight is tomorrow...
00:10:51Look, Skylar, you may be the star of this show,
00:10:54but this is carrying things too far.
00:10:55That girl can't sing.
00:10:56She's wonderful.
00:10:57She's got everything.
00:10:58¶ All right, be tender to me.
00:11:06¶ In your arms, let me find ecstasy.
00:11:14She can't sing.
00:11:15¶ I dream in your soft caress.
00:11:24¶ In your eyes, I see my paradise.
00:11:32¶ Never, never set me free.
00:11:37¶ For this night is heavenly.
00:11:41¶ Oh, tonight be tender to me.
00:11:47That's right.
00:11:48That's very beautiful.
00:11:49That's pretty.
00:11:50Don't be nervous.
00:11:51¶ Tonight be tender to me.
00:11:59¶ For tonight is tomorrow's memory.
00:12:08¶ Tonight be tender to me.
00:12:17¶ In your arms, let me find ecstasy.
00:12:26¶ I dream in your soft caress.
00:12:35¶ In your eyes, I see my paradise.
00:12:44¶ Never, never set me free.
00:12:49¶ For this night is heavenly.
00:12:54¶ Oh, tonight be tender to me.
00:13:04That was terrific.
00:13:06I told you she had everything.
00:13:08The contract's yours with 500 a week.
00:13:10Oh, thank you.
00:13:11It was wonderful.
00:13:13They were a great success together.
00:13:16Did they get married?
00:13:17No.
00:13:18That's the sad part of it.
00:13:20What happened?
00:13:22Grandmother heard about my success.
00:13:24She rushed to New York and proceeded to marry Mother off to the richest man she could find.
00:13:28She cut Jarvis out, huh?
00:13:30Yes.
00:13:32Mother married Dad.
00:13:34He was very rich then.
00:13:36But the crash took care of that.
00:13:39I guess Mother never forgot Skylar Jarvis.
00:13:42You know, he must have felt the same way.
00:13:45And now he wants to see you before he dies.
00:13:48Gosh, I hope we get there in time.
00:13:50Well, that might be a lesson for you.
00:13:53What do you mean?
00:13:54Well, just don't go falling for every nice guy you meet.
00:13:58Or before you know it, you'll end up with a broken heart.
00:14:01Don't worry, Jim.
00:14:03I can take care of myself.
00:14:05I wonder.
00:14:12You're looking better today, Mr. Jarvis.
00:14:15Sounds like the name of a play, Doc.
00:14:18What's that, sir?
00:14:20No time for comedy.
00:14:22Yes, sir.
00:14:23The lights are coming up.
00:14:25The last time, Doc.
00:14:28The final curtain of the fall.
00:14:31Yes, sir.
00:14:32I've had my fun.
00:14:34Now it's time for me to move on and make ready for the next act.
00:14:38That's your fine boy Louis, Mr. Jarvis.
00:14:41Yeah.
00:14:43Takes after me, Doc.
00:14:46Great entertainer.
00:14:48A little headstrong, but I was that way once.
00:14:52But he'll grow out of it when the right girl comes along to look after him.
00:14:57Something I never had.
00:15:01But I've taken care of all that in my will.
00:15:04Yes, sir.
00:15:06And I've looked after you in my will too, Doc.
00:15:09Thank you kindly, Mr. Jarvis.
00:15:12But all I want to do is to take care of you and your boy.
00:15:15I knew I could depend on you, Doc.
00:15:18Oh, Mr. Jarvis!
00:15:25Look in that drawer there.
00:15:28And get out that envelope.
00:15:31And always keep it safe for me.
00:15:40I'll do that, Mr. Jarvis.
00:15:42I knowed I could depend upon you, Doc.
00:15:44There ain't many people that I can trust.
00:15:46That's just kind of a check on something that I want done.
00:15:49Yes, sir.
00:15:53I want you to take that to somebody that can trust.
00:15:57And open it four weeks after I'm gone.
00:16:02I'll do that, Mr. Jarvis.
00:16:05Thank you, Doc.
00:16:07Now, go bring in my lawyer and his secretary.
00:16:13I want to make up my will.
00:16:16Yes, sir.
00:16:26It sure taken the old man a long time to draw his last breath.
00:16:29Why, you wouldn't want him to die before he makes out his will, would you?
00:16:32Don't worry about that. I've got that fixed too.
00:16:34If he doesn't write one, I'll do it for him.
00:16:36Isn't that a little risky?
00:16:37Are you kidding?
00:16:38With all the dough he's got, why, nothing is too risky.
00:16:41And I'm the only one that knows anything about his investments.
00:16:44Well, it certainly sounds cozy.
00:16:46Darling, you and I are going to be sitting on top of the world.
00:16:49And I'm with you all the way.
00:16:51Pardon me, sir. How is he, Doc?
00:16:54Bad, Mr. Talbot. Mighty bad.
00:16:56He asked for you and Miss Rusty, sir.
00:16:59He wants to make out his will.
00:17:01Okay, Doc. Thanks.
00:17:04That's it. Grab your little typewriter and let's go.
00:17:08By the way, that Carter girl will be at the airport in an hour and a half.
00:17:13What did he want with her?
00:17:14I don't know. He wanted to see her before he died.
00:17:17Guess he's losing his mind too.
00:17:22She must be five feet, five inches, dark brown hair.
00:17:38Mr. Jarvis, sign this, sir. There may not be much time left.
00:17:42I think we have all the essentials there.
00:17:45Great.
00:17:55Yeah, it's good enough.
00:17:58He didn't want a doctor, but I guess I'll have to call one now to sign the death certificate.
00:18:02That's right.
00:18:08Sorry, Louie.
00:18:09What, I'm too late?
00:18:10I'm afraid you're praying for him.
00:18:12Thanks, Terry.
00:18:13Fortunately, he managed to make his will in time.
00:18:23All right, now fill that out exactly right.
00:18:26And I'll get the signature fixed later.
00:18:28Listen, don't worry. A mistake would be too expensive now.
00:18:32I've got to get out to that airport to head off that Carter girl.
00:18:35Go ahead. I'll have this finished by the time you get back.
00:18:37Okay, Rusty. Good.
00:18:41Miss Carter?
00:18:42That's right.
00:18:43I'm Henry Talbot, Mr. Jarvis's lawyer.
00:18:47How do you do?
00:18:48Fine.
00:18:49This is my friend, June.
00:18:50Pleased to meet you.
00:18:51How do you do?
00:18:52I'm sorry, Miss Carter. You had to arrive too late.
00:18:55You mean he's...
00:18:56Well, I'm afraid so.
00:18:58Oh, I'm so sorry. I did so want to meet Mr. Jarvis.
00:19:02Well, we did all we could for him, but it was of no use.
00:19:04I'm sorry you had to make the trip for nothing.
00:19:07Oh, that's all right.
00:19:09We were going to...
00:19:10Oh, it's a pity, Mr. Talbot, but it was nice of Mr. Jarvis to pay our way here.
00:19:15But now...
00:19:16I understand.
00:19:17I knew you'd need some money to get back.
00:19:19Oh, but we don't really...
00:19:21Oh, thank you, Mr. Talbot.
00:19:23Well, that ought to do it.
00:19:24I have some things to do now, and I'll hurry along.
00:19:28There's a plane out in about an hour.
00:19:30Oh, that's all right.
00:19:31We decided to stay a couple of days and see the sights.
00:19:33Well, that I wouldn't advise.
00:19:35You know, New York's no place for two young girls.
00:19:37Oh, we'll manage.
00:19:39Well, goodbye.
00:19:40Goodbye.
00:19:41And goodbye to you, Miss.
00:19:42Goodbye.
00:19:45Well, that's hospitality for you.
00:19:48He didn't seem to want us around, did he?
00:19:51Not from where I stand.
00:19:53June, you really shouldn't have taken that money.
00:19:55Well, honey, I can see you're not experienced in the ways of the world.
00:19:58I'll pay our first month's rent.
00:20:00Oh, come on.
00:20:01Let's go.
00:20:06And entrust unto him the care of my son.
00:20:09To my dear son, Louie, the remainder of my estate.
00:20:14With the hope that he use it wisely.
00:20:16To ensure that, I make one provision.
00:20:20That within 30 days, I'll have the money.
00:20:23I make another provision.
00:20:25That within 30 days of my death, he marries the girl who is probably, even now, by his side.
00:20:32The girl he is to marry must fit this description.
00:20:35In a quarter inches.
00:20:37Waist, 22.
00:20:39Thigh, 19.
00:20:41Ankle, 8.
00:20:43Hips, 35.
00:20:45Bust, 32.
00:20:47Should he fail to comply with this wish,
00:20:49this will be turned over to Henry Talbot.
00:20:52Who, in turn, will donate the money to various charitable institutions.
00:20:56Signed, Skylar H. Jobs.
00:20:59And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the will.
00:21:02I don't get it.
00:21:03Neither do I.
00:21:04Well, Louie, looks like your father had to have his little game.
00:21:07But that description fits Rusty to a T.
00:21:10Yeah.
00:21:11I was thinking of that when I read the will.
00:21:13You know, your father had a great deal of respect for Rusty.
00:21:16Nobody's going to tell me who to marry.
00:21:18I don't love Rusty.
00:21:20But you could learn to love me, darling.
00:21:22I can't afford the lessons.
00:21:24Now, now, you don't have to rush into things.
00:21:26You have over four weeks.
00:21:27I don't care if I've got four years.
00:21:29I'll decide when and who to marry.
00:21:32Remember the new show, though, Louie.
00:21:33The backing isn't too sound, and we sure could use some of that cabbage.
00:21:37I'll find the backing for the show, all right,
00:21:39if I have to sell oranges on the street corners.
00:21:41Well, darling, you've only got a month.
00:21:44Come on, Rusty.
00:21:45We've got work to do.
00:21:47Can you beat that?
00:21:49Yeah.
00:21:50Tough break, Louie.
00:21:51That sure is some wife your father picked out for you.
00:21:54I thought he had better taste than that.
00:21:56You'll figure it out.
00:21:57Tell me, what are we going to do now?
00:21:59That's the $64 question.
00:22:01Can't you see?
00:22:03The blues is something that just don't exist.
00:22:08You can take it from me.
00:22:12The blues is something that just don't exist.
00:22:18Except in a hardwood wood.
00:22:22The blues is you get when you've got nothing.
00:22:27No nothing.
00:22:30So tell me, if you've got nothing,
00:22:35how can you haven't called the blues?
00:22:39The blues ain't nothing, ain't nothing at all,
00:22:44but an uneasy state of mind.
00:22:47The blues ain't nothing, oh, nothing at all,
00:22:52but a hungry cat without a dime.
00:22:57The blues is something you get when you've got nothing.
00:23:04No nothing.
00:23:07So tell me, if you've got nothing,
00:23:12how can you have something called the blues?
00:23:17Now when there's snow upon the ground
00:23:19and you've got holes in your shoes,
00:23:22every time you hear from home the same old bad news,
00:23:27nothing's going right, everything is going wrong,
00:23:32then just remember this song,
00:23:36the blues ain't nothing,
00:23:39the blues ain't nothing at all.
00:23:47Say, honey, didn't you say you knew this Louis Jarvis?
00:23:52Yes, but we only met once,
00:23:54when his father brought him to my mother's funeral.
00:23:57I was only twelve then.
00:23:59Well, why don't you go over and ask him about a job?
00:24:03Oh, no, he wouldn't remember me.
00:24:08I bet he'd like to renew an old acquaintance.
00:24:12Don't be silly, June.
00:24:14Well, one of us better click real soon.
00:24:17After all, I weigh exactly,
00:24:19and I do not wish to lose my glamour.
00:24:25Just a little patience, June, please.
00:24:28Hey, stop it, you're beginning to sound exactly like me.
00:24:32As you probably know,
00:24:34this is our last broadcast of the season.
00:24:36But don't fear, children,
00:24:38we'll all be back with you mighty soon.
00:24:40Now, right after Louis and the gang get through with that old favorite,
00:24:43the green grass grew all around,
00:24:45we'll have an announcement of special interest to all of you.
00:24:48So stay with us, will you?
00:24:50Now give us a downbeat, Louis.
00:24:52We're all ready to sing along with you.

00:27:59The green grass grows all around
00:28:07And now ladies and gentlemen
00:28:08Here's that special announcement I promised
00:28:11You might call it the chance of a lifetime
00:28:13But here's Sam Adams
00:28:15That great press agent to tell you all about it
00:28:19Thank you Hal
00:28:21Well folks, it's just this
00:28:23As you've all probably read
00:28:25Louis Jarvis is producing his own Broadway show
00:28:29The female lead is still open
00:28:32We're beginning a beauty and talent contest
00:28:34To discover the girl who'll play the lead
00:28:37Miss Broadway will have to be a true beauty
00:28:39Because we've got the measurements that she must fit
00:28:42You're all welcome to try out
00:28:44The contest will be held each afternoon
00:28:46At 238 Vine Street in St. Clair, New York
00:28:50At the Jarvis Mansion
00:28:52And we suggest that you come in your bathing suits
00:28:55To bring out the highlights
00:28:57Good luck to all of you
00:28:59And may the best one win
00:29:01Well, we're in
00:29:03Oh sure, they're just waiting for us
00:29:06Well, I'm no painting beauty
00:29:09But I've seen worse
00:29:10But you'll be okay honey
00:29:13No thanks June
00:29:15I'd rather work for a living
00:29:17Not walk around in a bathing suit
00:29:20But honey, this is a part for a big Broadway show
00:29:25Then why don't they hold auditions
00:29:27Instead of having beauty contests
00:29:30Well, just don't ask questions
00:29:32All I know is you gotta have more than looks
00:29:34To get in a big Broadway show
00:29:36And I'm gonna start rehearsing right now
00:29:38So, sit back, relax, and watch me
00:29:42I'm gonna play a recital
00:29:56I promised myself long ago
00:30:04That I'd never open my heart again
00:30:13But since I met you
00:30:19I've changed completely
00:30:26That promise will never hold true
00:30:34Cause I've tossed my heart in the ring again
00:30:44And all over you
00:30:49I've changed completely
00:30:59I've lived in a shell
00:31:04All by myself
00:31:09Until you washed me ashore
00:31:16A kiss from your lips
00:31:20And the touch of your hand
00:31:24Was all that was needed
00:31:28To open the door
00:31:33Soon now that you've shown me the way
00:31:40And you've made me open my heart again
00:31:49I'm glad I met you
00:31:55I've changed completely
00:32:02I promised myself long ago
00:32:10That I'd never open my heart again
00:32:20But I'm glad I met you
00:32:26I've changed completely
00:32:44Oh, June, I feel like an amateur compared to you
00:32:48Oh, it just takes a little hard work, honey
00:32:50And you're gonna start rehearsing right now
00:32:54While the girls are getting ready, Sam,
00:32:55I'd like to run over a couple of numbers.
00:32:56You know, we're going rehearsal tomorrow.
00:32:58Okay, all right, go right ahead.
00:33:00All right, fellas, let's get together now.
00:33:01Let's honor this one.
00:33:02This is Wham! Sam.
00:33:04This will be the opening of the show.
00:33:06Here we go.
00:33:23Wham! Sam, dig them gams
00:33:26Mellow like corn and country ham
00:33:28Slender and round and built from the ground
00:33:31Wham! Sam, dig them gams
00:33:34Wham! Sam, it ain't no flam
00:33:36The chick's got props like she's from Bam
00:33:39Mellow and fine and so divine
00:33:42Wham! Sam, dig them gams
00:33:44Now I've been around and seen some legs
00:33:47Skinny one, fat one, some fine pigs
00:33:50I like a chick that's built like her
00:33:52Soft and mellow like fine fox fur
00:33:55Wham! Sam, dig them gams
00:33:58Out of this world like berry jam
00:34:00Cool as a fool who's on the lam
00:34:03Wham! Sam, dig them gams
00:34:22Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham
00:34:52I've been around and seen some labes
00:35:20some leaves, seen some fine pigs, fat ones, skinny ones, like her, soft and mellow like
00:35:28fine fox fur. Wham, Sam, dig them gams. Out of this world like berry jam, cool as a fool
00:35:36who's on the lam. Wham, Sam, dig them gams.
00:35:45Say, lawyer, the girls are dressed and waiting.
00:35:47Oh, yeah, yeah, I know that. Let them sit around and rest now. We got to do it right.
00:35:51Girls, just sit around and be calm and pay attention to this number. This is a number
00:35:55on how to understand women.
00:35:58There's a whole lot of talk around town about the way you're carrying yourself.
00:36:22There's a whole lot of talk around town about the way you're carrying yourself.
00:36:33You're jiving everybody in town, but baby, I know what you're putting down.
00:36:42Everybody's trying to dig you, baby. Everybody but me.
00:36:51Everybody's trying to dig you. Everybody but me.
00:37:00You're fooling everybody in town, but baby, I know what you're putting down.
00:37:10You went out last night to a dinner, a show, and a dance.
00:37:17Yes, you went out last night to a dinner, a show, and a dance.
00:37:27You must have been a perfect clown, but baby, I know what you're putting down.
00:37:46You got a rambling mind. You just don't want to stay at home.
00:38:10You got a rambling mind. You just don't want to stay at home.
00:38:20You tell me you've done all your relatives in town, but baby, I know what you're putting down.
00:38:30You came home last night with a new hat and a new dress and a new pair of shoes.
00:38:40Yes, baby, came home about eight o'clock last night with a new hat and a new dress and a new pair of shoes.
00:38:51You ain't working nowhere in town, so baby, I know what you're putting down.
00:39:10First, uh, thirty-four.
00:39:16Hips, twenty-four and three-quarters.
00:39:21Hips, thirty-five.
00:39:23I'm sorry, beautiful, but you're just a little too tall. Thanks for coming out.
00:39:29Miss Ambrosia Jenkins.
00:39:40First, thirty-four.
00:39:47Waist, twenty-three and three-quarters.
00:39:52Hips, thirty-five.
00:39:54Sorry, miss, just a little too large.
00:39:58McCornflower.
00:40:06Six and three-quarters.
00:40:09Sorry, miss, just a little too large.
00:40:13Miss Howe on wheels.
00:40:25Hips, thirty-six.
00:40:31Waist, twenty-five and a half.
00:40:34Fine.
00:40:36I'm sorry, miss, you just won't do it.
00:40:43Well, Lloyd, it looks pretty good in here.
00:40:46It's no use, Santa, but Rusty could fit that description.
00:40:49You're not giving up, are you?
00:40:50Well, I'm ready to.
00:40:51Then you'll walk and marry Rusty?
00:40:53Well, I'm here. I guess I have to go along with you.
00:40:56Look, Lloyd, two weeks left to do something.
00:40:59Well, the backing of the show is all set. The rehearsals are good.
00:41:02And it needs a little brushing up, but I'll take care of that.
00:41:05Yeah, I know, but you can't depend on those things.
00:41:07And some of your father's money certainly would put us ship-shameless.
00:41:10Well, Sam, I'm not going to marry that dame.
00:41:13Look, Dragorini Blues, man, for a million bucks, I'd almost do it myself.
00:41:17A nudist, Colin.
00:41:18Are you kidding?
00:41:19Yeah.
00:41:20Well, I guess we have to just keep looking.
00:41:23Okay, bust, thirty-four.
00:41:27Waist, twenty-four.
00:41:32Hips, thirty...
00:41:34I'm very sorry, miss, but you didn't quite make it.
00:41:37Thanks for coming out.
00:41:49Bust, thirty-six.
00:41:54Waist, thirty-two.
00:41:57Hip, uh...
00:42:00Thank you, miss.
00:42:01It's awful nice of you to come out.
00:42:05Well, it was a good idea.
00:42:07But it didn't work.
00:42:09But what's a million bucks?
00:42:10You're right, just as long as you're happy.
00:42:14How about this young lady walks?
00:42:16Okay, go ahead.
00:42:19Could I help you, miss?
00:42:22Could I help you, miss?
00:42:26I thought I'd try.
00:42:28Well, what took you so long to get here?
00:42:30Well, I don't particularly like walking around in bathing suits.
00:42:34But when you have to eat every day,
00:42:36I guess you just have to forget a few things your mother told you.
00:42:39It really isn't that bad, I assure you.
00:42:42Do you have a bathing suit?
00:42:43Oh, yes, I have one on.
00:42:45On to this.
00:42:46Okay, well, get set.
00:42:51Okay.
00:42:53Okay.
00:43:19I'm terribly sorry, Angel.
00:43:21Better luck next time.
00:43:22Do you think I could speak to Mr. Jarvis?
00:43:24Glory?
00:43:25Sure, go ahead.
00:43:26He needs something to cheer him up anyhow.
00:43:31Jarvis?
00:43:32Mr. Jarvis?
00:43:33Oh, hello!
00:43:35Mr. Jarvis, I'm Honey Carter.
00:43:37Well, what do you know?
00:43:39You don't fit in it, but you sure get my vote for Miss Broadway.
00:43:43You know, you look familiar.
00:43:45Well, since I ought to,
00:43:47I guess I can't say you're getting fresh.
00:43:49You mean to say I really do know you?
00:43:51Oh, then you've forgotten.
00:43:53Well, let me think now.
00:43:55Your father would have remembered.
00:43:57Oh, Dad?
00:43:58He brought you to my mother's funeral.
00:44:00Oh, I know now.
00:44:01You're a loving man's daughter.
00:44:03So I've been told.
00:44:04Well, what do you know?
00:44:06Well, isn't that wonderful?
00:44:08The last time I saw you, you were only...
00:44:10Twelve.
00:44:11Twelve, that's right.
00:44:12And I had on my first pair of long pants.
00:44:15Now, look.
00:44:16Before you start saying,
00:44:17Oh, Langsdine,
00:44:19we have got to see a couple of angels
00:44:20about some money tonight, remember?
00:44:22This is the only angel I'm going to see tonight.
00:44:24Take care of it, Sam.
00:44:25Whatever you say, Lily.
00:44:27I've got a date with Honey to talk old times
00:44:29in the French cafe, okay?
00:44:31Okay.
00:44:39You know this old cafe in New Orleans?
00:44:41This is where you met your mother, you know.
00:44:43Used to them of the golden days.
00:44:47He must have been a sweet old man.
00:44:49What are you doing in New York?
00:44:51What are you working at?
00:44:52Well, if working is looking for a job,
00:44:56then I'm hard at work.
00:44:58No luck?
00:44:59Almost a month now.
00:45:01I was beginning to get a little desperate.
00:45:04That's how I decided to parade around the bathing suit.
00:45:07And a nice parade or two, if I may say so.
00:45:10What do you do, sing?
00:45:12I try to.
00:45:14If you're half as good as your mother was,
00:45:16you're sensational.
00:45:18I guess I'm passable.
00:45:20But I'm beginning to doubt even that.
00:45:22And what about coming down tomorrow for an audition?
00:45:25I'd love to, Louis.
00:45:27But I don't think I fit your measurements.
00:45:29That's another thing.
00:45:30I'd hire you anyway, just to stand around and look gorgeous.
00:45:33Oh, you're sweet, Louis.
00:45:36That goes double, darling.
00:45:37I can see why Pop was so crazy about your mother.
00:45:40Everything was mutual, remember?
00:45:42I sure do.
00:45:44Let's dance, Louis.
00:45:46Well, since I have no other excuse to hold you in my arms,
00:45:49under one condition.
00:45:51What's that?
00:45:52That you come to rehearsal tomorrow.
00:45:54All right, I'll be there.
00:45:56The deal is real.
00:46:10Hey, everybody.
00:46:35Let's have some fun.
00:46:37You only live but once, and when you're dead, you're done.
00:46:41So let the good times roll.
00:46:45Let the good times roll.
00:46:50Don't care if you're young or old.
00:46:53Get together and let the good times roll.
00:47:00Don't sit there mumbling and talking trash.
00:47:04If you want to have a ball, you got to go out and spend some cash.
00:47:08And let the good times roll.
00:47:12Let the good times roll.
00:47:17Don't care if you're young or old.
00:47:19Get together and let the good times roll.
00:47:26Hey, Mr. Landlord.
00:47:29Lock up all the doors.
00:47:31When the police comes around, tell them the joint is closed.
00:47:35And let the good times roll.
00:47:40Let the good times roll.
00:47:44Don't care if you're young or old.
00:47:47Get together and let the good times roll.
00:47:54Hey, y'all.
00:47:55Tell everybody, Mr. Jordan's in town.
00:47:59I got a dollar and a quarter, and I'm just Randy Clown.
00:48:03But don't let nobody play me cheap.
00:48:07I got 50 cents more that I'm going to keep.
00:48:12So let the good times roll.
00:48:17Let the good times roll.
00:48:21Don't care if you're young or old.
00:48:24Get together and let the good times roll.
00:48:30Yeah, no matter whether it's rainy weather,
00:48:35birds of a feather got to stick together.
00:48:39So get yourself under control, and go out and get together
00:48:43and let the good times roll.
00:48:51Wow, Sam, Dick, this gal.
00:48:54These are the new costumes, Louie.
00:48:55How do you like them?
00:48:56Sam, they're killer.
00:48:57I'm telling you, they're really fine.
00:48:59Come on, girls.
00:49:00Let's get together with this next tune,
00:49:01Greet Petite and God.
00:49:31. . .
00:50:00. . .
00:50:14I found a gal who beats them all.
00:50:17She isn't too short and she isn't too tall.
00:50:20She's in the groove and right on the ball
00:50:22because she's Greet Petite and God.
00:50:25Now, what a babe, she's the tops.
00:50:28When we go out, they don't need no traffic cops.
00:50:31One look at her and the traffic stops
00:50:33because she's Greet Petite and God.
00:50:37Now, I could have my pick, you know,
00:50:39because I know that's ready to go.
00:50:42But this chick's so mighty fine.
00:50:44She got me all tied up like a ball of twine.
00:50:47When I do things, I do them right.
00:50:49I won't ever let my baby out of my sight.
00:50:53We'll tie the knot and tie it tight
00:50:55because she's Greet Petite and God.
00:50:58Now, that chick has changed my attitude.
00:51:01Whenever I gaze on her pursuitude,
00:51:04I tell you, Jack, she's so mighty fine.
00:51:07She got me all tied up like a ball of twine.
00:51:10Those other chicks just leave me cold.
00:51:12You can't compare brass with 14-carat gold.
00:51:15After they made her, they broke the mold
00:51:17because she's Greet Petite and God.
00:51:20♪
00:51:38That was wonderful, girls. That was wonderful.
00:51:40Just a wee bit more rehearsal and you'll have it perfect.
00:51:43Sam, take the girls out and let them change their costume.
00:51:45Okay. Get her, girls.
00:51:48Ah, there she comes.
00:51:51Hiya, sugar. I'm so glad to see you.
00:51:53Hello, Louie. I want you to meet a friend of mine, June.
00:51:56She's a singer.
00:51:57Say, June.
00:51:58Ah, yes, Mr. Jarvis. How do you do?
00:52:01Honey tells me you can sing.
00:52:02Oh, could be.
00:52:04Well, what would you like to sing?
00:52:06Oh, uh, you got me where you want me.
00:52:10Uh, do you mean it?
00:52:11Uh-huh.
00:52:12Fellas, you know that.
00:52:13♪
00:52:18You've got me where you want me.
00:52:22You've got me so I care.
00:52:26I always thought I'd know when to stop or go
00:52:31when it came to loving.
00:52:34Now that I find you love me,
00:52:38I'll follow anywhere
00:52:42cause you've got me where you want me, baby
00:52:47and I don't care.
00:52:49Hold it right there, fellas. Hold it right there.
00:52:51What's the matter?
00:52:52Can't you do something else?
00:52:53Yes, I can sing.
00:52:55You can sing?
00:52:56And I can dance.
00:52:57Now that should be good.
00:53:02Oh, Heathcliff.
00:53:04Oh, Heathcliff.
00:53:06Oh, not Heathcliff.
00:53:08Oh, Heathcliff.
00:53:09Oh, hold it right there, fellas.
00:53:11I'll follow anywhere
00:53:14cause you've got me where you want me, baby
00:53:19and I don't care.
00:53:27That was wonderful, June.
00:53:28That was very good.
00:53:29Very good.
00:53:30Now, if you see Sam sitting over there,
00:53:31I think he'll get you a contract.
00:53:33Oh, thank you, Mr. Jarvis.
00:53:34Now, that's nice.
00:53:36Oh, Sam.
00:53:37Yeah?
00:53:38Mr. Jarvis, he said you'd give me a contract.
00:53:40I certainly will.
00:53:41I heard your song, June, and it's wonderful.
00:53:44Oh, thank you.
00:53:45I'll have the contract made up for you immediately
00:53:47so you can sign it before you leave.
00:53:48That's what I wanted to hear.
00:53:50Okay.
00:53:56Will you excuse me for a moment?
00:53:57I have a very important phone call to make.
00:53:59Oh, yes.
00:54:00I'll be right back.
00:54:01Okay.
00:54:02Oh, honey darling, come here just a moment.
00:54:05I'd like for you to do your little number now.
00:54:07I want you to sit these guys on their ear.
00:54:09You know that tune you rehearsed?
00:54:10I'd gladly do it again.
00:54:12Here we go, fellas.
00:54:13Yes.
00:54:14Now, look, Mr. Baxter.
00:54:15Somebody gave you a bum steer.
00:54:17The show is supposed to open in three days.
00:54:20Yes, I understand that.
00:54:22But, Mr. Baxter, you just can't back out on us now.
00:54:26Yes.
00:54:27You see, without your $10,000, we just can't open.
00:54:31Oh, Mr. Baxter.
00:54:34Yes.
00:54:35Yes, I understand.
00:54:36Yes, I understand that.
00:54:39All right, Mr. Baxter.
00:54:41Goodbye, sir.
00:54:49Lloyd, come here.
00:54:50I've got to talk to you.
00:54:51What's the matter, son?
00:54:52Baxter.
00:54:53Somebody put a bug in his bonnet, and he's backed out.
00:54:55But he can't do that.
00:54:56Yeah, that's what I said.
00:54:57But it's his checkbook.
00:54:59That means the show can't open day after tomorrow.
00:55:01If ever.
00:55:03And just think, all these kids have worked so hard.
00:55:05They're always rusty, though.
00:55:06I'd nearly forgotten about her.
00:55:08Yeah, so I noticed.
00:55:10How much time have we got left?
00:55:11Not much.
00:55:12This is the last day.
00:55:14Well, I guess we'll have to go to Talbot's office.
00:55:17Say, you don't mean you're going to...
00:55:18No, no, no, no.
00:55:20I don't know what I'm going to do.
00:55:21But you take the girls out to lunch, and I'll see you a little bit later on.
00:55:24Okay, but look, please, don't do anything rash, will you?
00:55:27I'll try not to.
00:55:28Okay, now.
00:55:32Okay.
00:55:33That was Baxter.
00:55:34Yeah, what did he want?
00:55:36Oh, he just wanted to thank me for tipping him off on the show
00:55:38before he lost his shirt on it.
00:55:40Very nice move, darling.
00:55:42Well, that ought to set Louis going.
00:55:44You know, he'd give anything to get that show on.
00:55:47Rusty, you're almost a bride.
00:55:50I don't know.
00:55:51Louis hasn't been very attentive.
00:55:53Well, he'd better start, and in a hurry.
00:55:55Because today is the last day.
00:55:57Then I'd start giving the money away to charity.
00:55:59Can't you get anything out of that?
00:56:01Oh, I don't know.
00:56:02Maybe a few pennies.
00:56:03But that's not the idea.
00:56:05I hire you.
00:56:06Then we'd have a steady income from here on out.
00:56:10Oh, hello, Louis.
00:56:11Hi, Rusty.
00:56:12That's the way it ought to be.
00:56:14Sure, Louis.
00:56:16I don't like what I see.
00:56:17Oh, now, don't be a fool.
00:56:19If I didn't need the money, I wouldn't come here at all.
00:56:21Come on, now, let's be serious.
00:56:23That's what I'm trying to do.
00:56:24All right, then, do it.
00:56:25Yeah?
00:56:26Marry Rusty and collect the dough.
00:56:28But I'm in love with somebody else.
00:56:30So what?
00:56:31Does that stand in the way of you and a million bucks?
00:56:33Marry Rusty.
00:56:34Then we get a quick divorce and a settlement.
00:56:36Why, you...
00:56:37Wait a minute.
00:56:38I don't like to think...
00:56:39Yes, I have your best interest at heart.
00:56:41I doubt that.
00:56:42You mean to call me a crook?
00:56:43Something like that.
00:56:45I have nothing more to say.
00:56:47It's about time.
00:56:48You always are, Wayne.
00:56:50I'd be a lot sorrier married to you.
00:56:55Henry Calvert's office?
00:56:57Yes, he is.
00:57:00Hello?
00:57:01Oh, how are you?
00:57:02That's right.
00:57:04Night at nine o'clock, Mr. Jarvis.
00:57:07Yes, sir.
00:57:09Well, Mr. Jarvis wanted it that way.
00:57:17That was Dolph.
00:57:19He wants us over to the house tonight at nine.
00:57:21Said that was your father's last wish.
00:57:23Okay, I'll be there.
00:57:25And thanks for helping me, Calvert.
00:57:27And remember, you're in my will.
00:57:30Stupid.
00:57:32What's this about Dolph?
00:57:34I don't know, too.
00:57:35Maybe they suspect something.
00:57:37No, no.
00:57:38How could they?
00:57:39They've broken down and threw a wrench in the works now.
00:57:41Don't you worry about that.
00:57:58So the show's closing.
00:57:59What about it?
00:58:02But Louie worked so hard.
00:58:04He had his heart and soul in it.
00:58:07Oh, there'll be other shows.
00:58:09Not for me, June.
00:58:11I've had enough.
00:58:12Honey, you gotta have understanding and patience in this business.
00:58:17But I can't take it, June.
00:58:21Maybe it's a guy and not the show that's causing all this trouble.
00:58:26Maybe it is.
00:58:29Oh, June.
00:58:32To ensure that I make one provision.
00:58:35That within 30 days, he marries a girl who is probably even now beside him.
00:58:40Now, wait a minute.
00:58:41We've heard all that before.
00:58:43This is the...
00:58:44And it's stated before the one that you're reading.
00:58:46Can I see it?
00:58:47Sure.
00:58:49Now, listen.
00:58:50Remember this.
00:58:51I'm the lawyer in this family, Mr. Jerome.
00:58:54Lieutenant Jerome of the police department.
00:58:58May I continue?
00:58:59Certainly.
00:59:00The girl who fits this description,
00:59:02waist 24, thighs 19 1⁄2,
00:59:06ankle 8 1⁄2,
00:59:08height 5 feet 5 inches,
00:59:10hair dark brown.
00:59:12Hey, listen.
00:59:13Those are girls.
00:59:145 feet 5 inches,
00:59:16hair dark brown.
00:59:17Hey, listen.
00:59:18Those aren't the measurements we were looking for.
00:59:20Something's fishy.
00:59:21Keep right on, Lieutenant.
00:59:23Should there be any difficulty in finding this girl,
00:59:25I suggest that you locate the daughter of the former Lovey Lynn.
00:59:29Namely, Honey Carter.
00:59:31Honey Carter?
00:59:32Hold it, you two.
00:59:34I thought that signature in the will of yours was a pony.
00:59:36Come on down to headquarters.
00:59:38We got some questions that need some answers.
00:59:40Thanks, Lieutenant.
00:59:41That's all right, Dolph.
00:59:42It's been a pleasure.
00:59:43So you had it fixed, Dolph, eh?
00:59:45Yes, sir, Mr. Lewis.
00:59:47The way your father was always talking about that Lovely Lynn and her daughter,
00:59:51I figured he kind of wanted you to marry this Honey Carter.
00:59:55But when you didn't,
00:59:57I told you there was something wrong.
00:59:59Good boy, Dolph.
01:00:00Thank you, Mr. Adams.
01:00:02Today, when I opened the envelope that Mr. Jarvis gave me,
01:00:06I could see right off,
01:00:08when I saw it was a copy of the will,
01:00:10that something was wrong.
01:00:12Lately,
01:00:13I thought your father kind of felt that Mr. Talbot
01:00:17wasn't up to no good.
01:00:19I expect it was sort of a test
01:00:22to protect you.
01:00:24And so I figured I'd better have the lieutenant read it,
01:00:28just in case.
01:00:30He used to play poker with Dad.
01:00:32That's right.
01:00:33Yes, and he still had a winning hand that time.
01:00:36You know,
01:00:37shouldn't I get married right away?
01:00:39I expect you do.
01:00:41Well, Sam,
01:00:42see if you can dig up a justice of peace.
01:00:44I'll find Honey.
01:00:47Hey, and Sam,
01:00:49get the cast together.
01:00:50The show must go on.

01:05:21If you want a guy with gold,
01:05:23don't care if he's young or old.
01:05:25It's a cinch,
01:05:26you're barking up the wrong tree.
01:05:28But if you want to get your kicks
